I have yet to watch the white princess, but from I can tell they are doing some kind of love-hate story with EoY and H7. but why???? if they want to do that and have a queen who raises like an army against her husband they have so many better options? Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II would have been an excellent route to go if they want a love-hate-rebellion story!

It’s basically because Philippa Gregory can’t do a love story w/o rape or women hating each other, tbh.  It’s better than the source material, from what I can tell, but that… is not much.  The leads do have good chemistry tho.

I don’t know why people aren’t jumping on an Eleanor/Henry II miniseries starting with their younger days.  It would be so much fun!  They had a fiery relationship that turned bad, but at least she was able to fight back.

history meme (french edition)  →  free choice: relationships (1/?) Marguerite de Valois and Henri IV’s children.

“When Marie de Medici, second wife of Henri IV, was crowned queen of France, Marguerite, his former first wife, garbed in crown and royal mantle, followed behind. This is in fact quite a good metaphore to resume their family life. Marguerite acted as a kind of honorary aunt to her former husband’s children; she was godmother to his son Gaston, and the Dauphin, later Louis XIII, tenderly called her “mama”. After her death in 1615, the young King confessed that ‘he misses her dearly’. A. Lloyd Moote, Louis XIII, the Just

You can’t read The Six Wives Of Henry VIII by Antonia Fraser and NOT feel the worst for Katherine Howard out of all of them.

Granted, Anne got killed too, but at least she was smart and savvy and old enough to know what she was getting into.

Katherine Howard was just a ditsy, silly, unintelligent teenage girl in way over her head.  That’s why her story is so sad.

If Henry had been one bit of the good Christian he claimed to be, he’d have just had her banished or sent to a convent.

That he insisted on her death basically tells you what a frigging sociopath he was.
