It’s Mary Pickford’s 125th Birthday! Pickford (1892 - 1979) was one of the first [film] actresses to actually be billed under her name. Canadian born, she was an early hollywood producer, writer, director, and actress. She was also one of the original founders of the Academy for Motion Picture Arts & Science (aka the organization behind the Academy Awards) and she helped found the United Artists film studio alongside Charlie Chaplin. She was the second winner of the Academy Award For Best Actress in 1929.

Ladies in early film!
