Hufflepuff Core Teachings

Hufflepuffs are good finders they said.
Everyone snickered and joked,
Making her and her house the butt of every joke,
But Helga just smiled
And kept her heart close.

She had been named for the founder for a reason after all.
She was going to be great.

So she found.
She found whispered secrets,
Answer keys,
Passageways that none knew existed,
Books that had slipped out of the librarian’s hands
And away from being imprisoned in the Forbidden section.

Hufflepuffs are good finders.
Hufflepuffs are loyal.

Helga’s friends were her world,
Laughing and talking,
Whispering loves and fears and hopes and dreams.

She found her friend’s boyfriend
Cheating on her,
And an infusion of hemlock
Found its way into his pumpkin juice.
Just like with the “muggle” Socrates who helped others find themselves.
Her friend’s cheater just didn’t find the right person.

Hufflepuffs are good friends.
Hufflepuffs are loyal.
Hufflepuffs accept everyone.

Accepting everyone is the right thing to do,
Which is why everyone is accepted into the abuse survivor shelters
She helps build across Scotland
And later the entire United Kingdom.

As for those who do not accept others
And actively endanger her survivors?
Her magic does not accept them
And the supposed value their lives have
Is not accepted either.

Hufflepuffs are good friends.
Hufflepuffs are loyal.
Hufflepuffs accept everyone.
And Helga is very sure that her namesake
Would be very proud of how she’s stayed
To the core teachings of her house.
