Coping Spell

We all have days where nothing seems to go right for us. We may feel anxious, stressed out, or like going back to bed, but we know, if we don’t keep moving forward, our tomorrow will be even more stressful. On days like these, we can use a coping spell to help give us the strength to keep moving forward.

What you will need:
1. An apple
2. A brown candle (in a safe holder; may substitute with a white candle)

Preparation

If it is part of your practice, cast a circle. As you sit with your ingredients before you, centre yourself. Ground yourself in the present moment by focusing on your breath, the sensations of your body, and your connection to the earth.

Casting

Light the candle and take a moment to consider it. Brown represents the element of earth, a source of strength and grounding. If other thoughts intrude, allow them to pass unjudged and return your attention to the earth; sink your roots deep into her and draw on her strength.

Hold the apple before you and repeat the following with intention five times:

Grant me strength, that I remain
Grant me healing, ease my pain
Let me not be overwhelmed
Anxiety be expelled

Eat the apple. Pay attention to how it feels in your hand. Look at its colour and sheen. Notice its smell as you bite into it. Hear its crunch. Taste its juice: is it tart or sweet? Eat it with a gratitude for what the earth has given you and be thankful for the endurance and energy she fills you with.

When finished, extinguish the candle and proceed with your day, drawing on this moment when you feel fatigued.

Brown: associated with the element of earth; used when seeking stability, grounding, and strength
Apple: associated with Venus and the divine feminine; sacred on the Isle of Avalon; strong connections with the soul, love, and healing
Five: in numerology, the number five is associated with the feminine and imparts tomboyish energy and strength
