heal a million

The more I confess my frail humanity, the louder I hear the sound of another voice rising up in me, one that has some weight behind it. It is the voice of Hope, and Hope speaks with courage and a bit of a laugh. Because when those things we most fear will happen actually happen, we have a unique window of opportunity to take inventory of the battlefield in the aftermath. We look around, blink our eyes, listen to the quiet, and think to ourselves, I am not dead. That did not kill me after all.
—  Emily P. Freeman. A Million Little Ways

A super-powered version of the FAHC is an awful, unstoppable thing. Powered humans are rare, sure, but not unheard of; the Fake’s aren’t the only group out there defying reality in broad daylight. What makes them so remarkable, so formidable and distressingly hard to combat, is the way they use those powers. The way each member has taken their gift and twisted it, pulled and torn and stretched it to unforeseen territory, used their powers in ways no one else has even dreamed. Ways most could only imagine in their worst nightmares.

Ryan might be the most obvious example, the clearest illustration of the perversion of abilities, power turned on its head and used against its intention. He’s inspired them all, one way or another, to push their powers to the limits, into shapes they don’t belong in, powerful and strange and noticeably tarnished. On anyone else Ryan’s gift would be one of healing, of hope and restoration, empathetic and inherently altruistic. Its not a power most would associate with a life of crime, outside perhaps a medic, definitely not one most would pick for a mercenary, for the infamously deadly Vagabond. Ryan though, he’s never been one to let a little thing like reason set him back, never felt constrained by expectation, and he wasn’t about to let his powers derail his goals. Ryan has taken the ability to heal and broken it down into stages, approached inexplicable magic like a scientist, methodically identifying how to extract the exact elements he was after. He has the power to heal, yes, but what can be healed may also decay, that which can be stitched back together may just as easily be disassembled; it is no more difficult to displace blood than it is to correctly route it. With a touch Ryan can stop hearts, can rend tissue and implode organs. He can push natural reactions into overdrive, can encourage minor ailments into unstoppable disease, convince various systems to shut down without exposure to extreme circumstance. The only limit is Ryan’s own bountiful creativity, and while it might not be what people expect from the Vagabond he wouldn’t swap his abilities for anything.

Jeremy can change his density at will. Becoming immensely dense has some obvious uses in their world; bullets literally bouncing off his skin and fists that can shatter bones with a single punch, but becoming unnaturally light has just as many applications. Jeremy can change his weight mid-jump to achieve inhuman distance, can fall from great heights without a parachute, can climb sheer walls and hold his entire body up on the tip of a finger. There is no weight Jeremy cannot lift, no wall or door that can keep him out, let alone cuffs or bars to contain him. If Jeremy does not want to move there is physically no way to make him, and if he sets his sights on destroying something little can be done to stop him.

Geoff can communicate telepathically. This comes in handy when getting a hold of his crew, so long as they are within his range he can speak to them comms or no, but they are not the only ones he can speak to. All it takes is some connection, long term emotional links allow for greater distance but as long as Geoff is looking at someone he can get into their mind. Can sneer at police officers, whisper threats to rivals, force unsuspecting strangers to have the most peculiar thoughts and terrify anyone who tries to stand in his way. While Geoff can only really scrape through the top level of someones mind, more emotion and direct thoughts than any deep secrets, it is no great difficulty to convince people that he sees a lot more. Let them feel him poking around, quote a few stray thoughts back at them and suddenly not only do his victims believe he sees all but they are much more likely to think loudly about the very things they hope he doesn’t notice. Geoff can push images as easily as word, useful when sharing a story but even more so as a form of torture; he can fill minds with his darkest thoughts, plague dreams with images from his nastiest nightmares, provide a personalised hell that is impossible to escape from.

Michael controls heat. It’s a power people tend to fear, think it synonymous with mastery over fire, imagine sparking fingers and raging infernos. Which, to be fair, isn’t wholly inaccurate, but is hardly the extent of Michael’s power. He can create fire sure, can raise the temperature to extremes in pinpointed locations to ignite a room, but he doesn’t need to. Michael can press heat straight into a body, can warm someone up or cook them from the inside out, can burn slowly or kill in an instant. His powers extend to objects too, he can melt metals, boil water, absorb and deflect heat, and set off explosives. While people don’t associate it with him the way the do fiery rage, what can go up can of course also go down. Michael can drop the temperature, can produce dangerous frost and sharp ice shards, freeze someone in water and induce frostbite with a simple touch. Michael is completely unbothered by extreme temperatures, can render himself undetectable on thermal imaging cameras and change the temperature of objects so suddenly they shatter. Even those who flee aren’t safe; careening into danger as roads are  suddenly coated in black ice or bubble and melt beneath flaming tires.

Ray can multiply himself, a series of duplicates capable of drawing fire and completing simple tasks. They were once mere mindless echoes of his actual self, near translucent and noticeably different if you looked closely enough, quickly giving birth to the term Ghost Ray when describing them. They didn’t stay that way though, Ray quietly practising and practising until they not only solidified but he could split his conciousness between them, could act as all bodies simultaneously and be in half a dozen places at once. It’s disconcerting, the way they all look real now. The way they all are Ray now, will fade away like they were never there when Ray lets them go, or when they die, but until then he can be in any and all of them at once. It bears thinking about, considering some die. Considering one stays. Considering the way Ray doesn’t like to talk about it, practises late at night and sends his selves off on private missions, laughs and deflects and fades away.

Jack can manipulate the wind; her jets are always boosted and her cars caught and righted before they can ever spin out, while any who pursue her find themselves shoved off the roads. She can deflect bullets, catch plummeting bodies and stir up various weather phenomena. As though this was not enough Jack’s power over the air allows her to create small vacuums, granting her the ability to suck oxygen from a room. To steal it right out of lungs, suffocating her opponents without lifting a finger to touch them. Alone she is more than dangerous, but Jack has always worked best with others. Her powers are particularly effective when combined with Michael or Jeremy; catching Jeremy up and hurling him like a canon ball and taking ice or flame and whirling them into deadly tornadoes. She can, just as effectively, force them all to calm down when things start getting out of hand; wind separating fights, extinguishing fires, airless pockets keeping anyone from storming away in a huff, and being sudden drenched by rain provides a wholly undignified end to any petty squabbles.

Gavin’s power is all about luck. It’s not the most exciting power at first glance; he can see probabilities, split-second calculations that manifest in inexplicable feelings, knowing just when to duck, when to take a detour, when to blow off a meeting and stay home instead. It’s not a power most people would associate with violent crime, rather imagine lotto winnings and effortless celebrity, but most people aren’t Gavin. It was simple intuition at first; shoot now, trust him, buy the ticket, check your phone. But Gavin, being Gavin, pressed for more. Worked out how to manipulate his own luck instead of relying on chance, concentrating on what he wants so his powers bend around him, gift evolving from simple suggestions into something else all together. When Gavin assures himself that all he needs in the world is to shoot his way out of a situation there is no way he will be unlucky enough have a gun run empty, when he needs to make a purchase he will never have the misfortune of running out of money, when he settles himself as the frontman of the FAHC none will be lucky enough to resist his charms. Now that he knows how to push, the limits of Gavin’s power are completely unknown – the least visibly impressive and yet the possibilities are as astounding as they are impossible. He needed a worthy crew, so he found one; they desired power, so they got it; it would be unlucky to die, so they don’t.

Pools of salt water
crash on my thighs
they send signals
and shivers to my eyes

I have my own pools of salt
they tell me to uproot myself
and stay with a babe

She’s a warrior
and everything I see myself loving
and living with

I could sit in a cave
on our little private beach
until she wakes from her slumber
and she realizes
we are the same
and will be.

Let us take
endless car rides
through desert mountains
opening our broken hearts
healing them with drum beats
and unexpected floods

one broken man,
one healing woman.

So I just que’d with an openly sexist douche on Overwatch and he mained Mercy (so do I but he didn’t know that) and he heard my friend (who is a girl) on the voice chat and told her to go back to the kitchen and make him a sandwich. Now we’re both pretty in denial at this point, like “Is this guy joking? He’s really staying in character” but no he was completely serious and proceeded to call my friend a cunt, bitch, and all sorts of other things and the rest of my group and I started roasting him. Then he was just like “guys, don’t disrespect your fuckin healer” I was playing Reaper (and totally killing it tbh) and we were all shocked at the fact that he tried to hide behind changing the subject so weakly and dishonorably. We told him that he was doing a horrible job as healer (and he really was bad) and he challenged any of us to do any better. Oh, big mistake. I have a total of 75 hours on Mercy, and over a million healing points. Guess the fuck what, I went completely savage and got 18 solo kills as her and resurrected 9 people over the course of the rest of the game, five of which were all in one res, and on the last point that won us the game. That also got play of the game. Now at THIS point, we had kept roasting him for about 10 minutes and every once in a while, he’d come back on the mic and try to make some witty comeback but we just kept shutting him down because he was arguing a completely idiotic point of view. By the end of the game he was actually starting to cry and rage quitted. We sorta started to feel bad for him because of how badly we roasted him but then we’re like naaaahhhhhh the sexist bastard can go fuck himself, and his cousin.

Before my fiancé and I lived together, we were in a long distance relationship for a year and a half. It was difficult, but one the things that helped pull us through was a Septarian geode like this one! These gorgeous healing crystal geodes were formed millions of years ago, and when they are cut in half and polished, you have two identical halves of the whole.

We each took a half of the geode when we were apart, and it helped us to remember the bigger picture and our love for each other when things seemed impossible. These special stones actually have the unique property of absorbing your energy over time, so essentially they can embody your friendship or relationship and help lend you that comfort and love when you need it!

Years later we still have our Septarian, and the halves are together now in our crystal collection (you can see it in many of my pictures!). It’s definitely my favorite piece! I recently came across this one… It’s for sale here!

Kid Cudi’s SB2H: An Emotional Masterpiece

Cudder’s 6th studio album, Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven, releases tomorrow, December 4th, worldwide in digital form. Physical copies ship out the 18th, followed by a limited amount of vinyls and cassettes that will be made available in early 2016. From the worry and frustration surrounding Cudi’s recently canceled tour to the confusion regarding his drastic musical change away from hip-hop, this album has been an incredibly controversial transition between 2014’s Satellite Flight and the third installment of the Man on The Moon series.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of hate and criticism in response to this production as it diverges even more from Cudi’s previous works. However, it is important for all of us to recognize the importance and meaning of this album to Kid Cudi as a human being, regardless of how one feels about its musical merit. Personally, I adore the album as I see it as an incredibly bold move, yet even I can recognize that Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven has its highs and lows. Tracks such as “Melting” blowing away songs like “Judgmental Cunt” in my mind. Yet, throughout it all we see three major themes. The first: an incessant, lingering pain that is aptly captured by Cudi’s cadence and his impassioned moaning and crooning. Secondly: repetitive chords, melodies and lyrics. And lastly: an invocation of his youth experiences. The three of these facets integrate to create an album that is as much of a sonic beauty as it is a deeply saddening traumatic catharsis.

“When I was 11, I saw my dad’s corpse, innocence lost, hanging on the front porch” sings Cudi in one of his most revealing tracks, simply and aptly titled “Trauma”. Just as trauma victims are subjected to relentless repetition of their horrors in their head, Cudi loops the lyrics of this track, and many others, a great amount of times. Just like the character of Norman Bowker in Tim O’Brien’s “Speaking of Courage”, who loops around a lake over and over again as he searches within himself to find the strength to talk to someone about the trauma that he experienced in the Vietnam War, Cudi loops around his lyrics in search of someone who will truly listen to him. One of the central foundations of the healing process for trauma victims is the need for someone else to “bear witness” to the trauma. By sharing the experience that has caused the subject to undergo so much pain, the victim no longer feels the responsibility to hold onto that memory, and is able to let it go and ultimately heal. Cudi, despite having millions of fans worldwide, faces the same kinds of problems that all people who have faced trauma do. If this album isn’t a cry for help and understanding, then I don’t know what it is. Cudi’s pain is apparent even in the modulation of his voice, as he strains it to hit unusual notes and create unusual melodies over the dark backdrop of instruments. On songs such as “The Return of Chip Douglas”, his singing turns to utter wailing in frustration, bringing out the full depth of his emotions. Cudi’s repetitive, dark songwriting and expression showcase the repetitive, dark nature of trauma.

Even through all of the sadness, Cudi is able to show his personal belief that things will get better. The characters of Beavis and Butthead, possibly favorites from Cudi’s youth, help the listener to explore the emotional journey that Cudi, and the listeners, go through. The use of fictional characters to explore very real emotions is typical of trauma literature, as depicted in Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five, in which the protagonist is only able to cope with his trauma by imagining aliens that convey life messages to him. Likewise, once we are able to look past the ostensible ridiculousness of Beavis and Butthead, we are able to see that they are there to guide us all. “Don’t worry Beavis, we will land safely…Take some of these mushrooms” says Butthead, as he leads the two of them, and us, into an emotional journey. Butthead exclaims, “the world will never be the same…there will be harmony” in his last appearance, at the end of “Red Sabbath”, a track that nears the end of the first disc. By invoking these childhood characters, Cudi makes his work to be even more apparent as a traumatic piece of art, as they act as personal and emotional aids in his path to happiness and understanding.

Ultimately, many people will not like Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven. “I’m damaged, I trust no one, sometimes I can be real mean” admits Cudi on a very emotional track, “Handle with Care”. His own insecurities and problems have undoubtedly cut many bridges, as we have seen Cudi beef with a variety of artists, reject coproduction, and even leave the label that helped to establish his fame. But despite this all, you have to admire the man’s authenticity and honesty. My only hope is that those who do not appreciate the album musically can at least appreciate what it stands for. We need to bring awareness to the types of depression that have haunted people like Scott for such a long time. Mental illness demands support, not alienation. Yes, he has expressed his emotional issues clearly over the course of his career, but never so darkly and never so deeply. This is something that warrants respect for his ability to connect with millions of listeners worldwide – people of all ages that look to Cudi, sparking by his emotional honesty and support all the way back in 2010 when he roared “I’m your big brother” on his sophomore album. These fans, myself included, look to Cudi’s pain as a reminder that we can make it through the adversity. That whoever you are, you are not alone. “Never feel alone. We are always here. Even in Death” goes back to the WZRD days. Rather than ridiculing him for the pain that is so clearly depicted in this album (as many have), we need to stand by Cudi as we should stand by any fellow man. This man, however, is someone special. Cudi is a man who has the bravery to depart from a genre that gave him the most commercial success, all in the name of experimentation and personal fulfillment. He has dedicated his entire musical and celebrity presence to help kids, and was even awarded for his role as a mental health ambassador. Actor, songwriter, activist, producer, singer, rapper, guitarist - the accolades continue to stack for Scott Mescudi. He truly is “The Crazy, The Wizard”. Who else has the guts to be so radical by most people’s standards and still make such magic?

Yes, This is Normal

Title: Yes, This is Normal

Fandom: Percy Jackson and the Olympians + Heroes of Olympus

Pairing: PERCABETH

Summary: In which Percy gets injured from a monster-related incident and goes to Annabeth’s dorm room several floors high for help – a scenario which, is totally normal for the couple but not for Annabeth’s roommates.    Fluff :3

A/N: I wrote this a really long time ago, maybe a year or so ago, I’m guessing before I even went to college. I wrote this on my phone, and I completely forgot about it. I save it on my computer and let it lie around for a while more before I decided to actually post it on ff.net and tumblr.

It was a quiet night – at least, as quiet as New York could get, when Annabeth’s far-from-normal boyfriend banged on her dormitory room’s window, several floors above ground. The sound of Blackjack’s mighty wings beating against the wind drowned out the noise of a busy city righter. Annabeth dropped the righterty book she was doing two years worth of advanced reading on, and squinted her eyes to get a better look at the figure of the battered up teen hero in the darkness. When  she slid up the window to hear him talk, she observed that the injuries where worse than she thought. Blood dripped from a wound on Percy’s foredhead and mouth, and he was clutching his stomach below where his shirt got brutally ripped open. Annabeth sustained a gasp as she realized a few layers of flesh had been, too. And although they’d been used to seeing each other injured, the thought of one in the least bit of pain stung like fire licking at their insides.

Annabeth looked down to see the rattled street below – police and mediamen surrounded a huge imprint on the asphalt road she was certain was made by a monster. What could Percy have gotten into this time?

“Percy, seriously!” said an exasperated Annabeth as she helped Percy hoist himself from the righte to the windowsill, careful not to touch his injuries.

“Uhmm, nice to see you too, Annabeth,” Percy tried for a smile, a smile which Annabeth couldn’t decide was goofy or terrifying, since a steady stream of blood flowed from his temple. “Just a monster with a name so long I got too lazy to learn. I named him Bill instead. All taken care of.”

Annabeth shook her head – typical Percy personality, making fun and jokes at dire situations. Although, she thought, this isn’t as bad as much of the things they’ve gone through -  they’ve been to actual hell, so she knows. Percy flopped down the nearest bed to the window, which was conveniently Annabeth’s.

As a demigod, and a daughter of Athena at that, Annabeth kept a first aid kit in her drawer, filled with demigod essentials specifically meant for life-or-death moments. She grabbed a pair of scissors and started to cut off the already torn and bloody shirt. She found that Percy had a hard time moving his sword arm, and saw that it was swollen from the elbow to the shoulder and chest. “Bill’s tail really beat me up,” Percy chuckled, “no swordplay for me in a while, I guess.”

“Oh, Percy,” Annabeth sighed as she started cleaning up his stomach wound, which luckily wasn’t as bad as she thought. They were just really bad grazes, the torn shirt just made it more horrible than it actually was. Percy winced.

Still, even when beaten up Annabeth couldn’t help but notice how handsome Percy had become: how his muscles filled in and really defined his features, when he was so skinny and lanky when they’d first met. She noticed how angular his face got; how his eyes got sharper and cooler, yet gentle when he needed he to be, specially when he was staring lovingly at her. His tousled jet black gair was a perfect contrast to his light skin. Their gazes met when Annabeth began to wipe the blood off his face, and she let a few fingers touch his skin. The tingles she feels when their flesh touches had never worn away after all this time, after so many touches they had shared. And she never really wanted the lose the amazing sensation anyways.

Percy lifted his hand, though aching badly, to lead Annabeth’s hand to his face. He closed his eyes and sucked in her incredible warmth. He drew his face nearer and nearer to hers, despite every contraction of his muscles being very painful.

“Hey, Wise Girl,” he whispered unintentionally huskily as their noses touched. Annabeth sat at the bed beside him, never letting go of the position. Annabeth would probably never admit it to him but his voice at the moment, a bit hoarse and low, was really sexy. She smiled, and never let go. “You’re cute when you’re worried. Your eyebrows get all scrunched up,” Percy teased.

I was re-watching House Guest this morning and I noticed something kind of interesting while I was watching it.

Steven was able to use his healing powers to heal Greg

just like how he was able to heal Lapis

However, the difference between Greg and Lapis is that Steven visually saw Lapis heal. Greg pretended that it didn’t work, and this really messed with Steven’s head (he even goes as far as calling himself unworthy of being a Crystal Gem). Shortly after, he’s called on a mission to help the gems fix the geode. Time skip to after Greg’s called him back a few times, he’s back with the Gems. When they suggest he tries fixing the geode himself, he gets excited and happy that he could be the answer to the gems’ problem. This doesn’t work, and the gems encourage him again. Later when he’s home, he discovers Greg had been faking, and he’s heartbroken by this. He even yells at Greg, something unbelievably out of character for him. Greg us heartbroken in return for Steven yelling at him, along with the consideration that he took one of Steven’s power away.

So, to try to make up to it, he uses his warp whistle to bring himself to the Geode to fix it himself. Steven panicks and follows closely behind him. Greg apologizes, and that’s where this exchange of words come in.

“I messed up your powers! I did everything I’m not supposed to do, and now you can’t heal!”

and then Steven looks at his dad like THIS,

and says

“I healed you, right?”

This is where his confidence comes back. He’s fully recognizing that his powers DID work, and that there’s a good chance it’s still working.

But it didn’t.

Most people might say it’s because his powers shut down, or that he still wasn’t completely confident in himself.

I think that’s wrong.

What do Greg and Lapis have in common?

They’re living creatures.

While Lapis doesn’t technically have a heart or lungs, she’s still technically living. Her gem is in tact.

So I believe that Steven’s healing powers, along with confidence in himself, ONLY work on living creatures. Of course healing powers wouldn’t work on a rock because there’s nothing to heal. There’s stuff to fix, but Steven doesn’t have fixing powers. He heals. He can’t fix. Duct tape can fix.

The only reason Steven  thinks his powers are gone is because he hasn’t used them since he couldn’t fix the geode. The gems are indirectly feeding it into him that he can’t use them and never will be able to again, but this is Steven we’re talking about. I bet the next time someone close to him gets hurt, and the next time he’s willing to try using them, they’ll work good as new again.

The only other time I can think of where he used his powers and they worked is when he fixed Connie’s eyesight after she drank from his juice box. and what is Connie?

a human
