Okay but imagine
Jaune’s parents hearing about what happened at Beacon, worried sick about their son. Get a message that he’s coming home, but he sounds different. Hardened, and broken. So when he knocks on the door and the entire Arc family – all sisters piled around their parents – open the door, there’s their Jaune, their precious boy, who looks so tired and haggard and defeated and like he’s been doing nothing but crying and screaming and is just angry at the world.
And at his back are two strangers: a young man with dark hair pulled back, a pink stripe in it, and a petite young woman, the two holding each other up.
Jaune introduces them as Ren and Nora. That he’s their leader. The leader of Team JNPR. That Ren and Nora don’t have families to go home to, so is it okay if they stay too? Where’s the fourth member? Well, Mom, Dad, I…
And Jaune tries, he does, he really does because he owes Pyrrha that much but all he can think of is her lips on his and her face, and how he wasn’t strong enough to slam the locker open and go with her or stop her, and eventually his words fail him. They just choke off and dammit he won’t cry again, but Ren picks up, the quiet sorrow in his voice telling all.
And Ren and Nora stay with Jaune’s family. The two pile into Jaune’s room and Jaune curls against the wall, Nora snuggled up against his back, and Ren at hers, because no one could take the place of who should have been on Jaune’s other side. And Ren makes them all pancakes, the entire Arc family, in the time between the tragedy and showing up at Ruby’s house. In that time they learn more about Jaune and his family, who try their hardest to help their boy heal. And in time Jaune can smile, even if it’s cracked, because he’s stronger than he thought and he hates himself for it because he’d love nothing more than to give up sometimes but he is a leader and responsible for his team, and he owes it to Pyrrha.
He owes everything to Pyrrha.
So when the message comes from Ruby, he doesn’t even need to ask. Ren and Nora’s injuries are healed, and they all start packing. Just a little bit less hollow than they’d been before, and determined to do everything they could.
I might actually write this in the future, when more if it comes to me because I really like the idea of Jaune taking Ren and Nora home with him.
