he's sticking the thing in steven

Today's Cartoons
  • Gravity Falls: Two Kids spending summer vacation with their weird uncle in a town where bizarre things happen with a big mystery. Also about trust, growing up with maturity rather than grow apart from family, always sticking by your friends through the roughest times.
  • Wander Over Yonder: An Optimistic alien who wants to help people across the galaxy. Also wants to make sure no one is ever helpless like he was and help villains rather than hurt or beat them just because they're bad.
  • Star vs. The Forces of Evil: A magical princess from another dimension fights evil with her best friend while having magical and fun adventures. Also shows the fear of the future, fear of growing up, and realistic crushes/relationships/love triangles and how to face them sensibly while growing as a person.
  • Steven Universe: A young boy being partially raised by aliens and has space related adventures while learning about his mother. Also about love and acceptance for everyone and character development that's relatable and real.
  • Voltron-Legendary Defender: A reboot of an 80's show that didn't have much to offer centering around five people who are chosen to defend the universe. Also about teamwork always works, everybody has each others backs, and helping anyone in need no matter how small they seem. Becoming more than just a team, they've become a family all while saving the universe from a former hero.
  • O.K K.O! Let's be Heroes: A boy wants to become a great hero like his friends and family and fight evildoers. Also explains that a hero's journey is long and hard but can be achieved by focus and discipline, while showing that everyone has different sides to them including dark ones and can grow everyday.
  • Society: They're just kids shows, people. 😑
  • What she says: "I'm fine."
  • What she means: "In the 2017 major motion picture Beauty and the Beast, during the song The Mob Song performed by Luke Evans and supporting cast, Gaston says 'Screw your courage to the sticking place' which is a direct quote from Macbeth, by William Shakespeare. So Gaston actually wasn't lying when he told Belle 'You know...books..." This begs the question WHY DID GASTON NOT SHARE HIS INTEREST OR AT LEAST FAMILIARITY WITH SHAKESPEARE WITH BELLE? Since that is specifically the thing that she and the Beast, played by Dan Stevens, bond over later in the film, and what she is reading in the beginning of the movie. This would have made wooing her a hell of a lot easier--"

You ever really think about how Amethyst knew nothing about herself prior to Rose dying? Because I do.

Amethyst has learned more since Rose died and Steven was born than she did in the thousands of years prior she’s been with them. More than that- she’s respected more now than she was before Rose died. They don’t carry her like a ragdoll or chuck sticks to make her leave them be. She’s not just Amethyst the troublemaker anymore. She’s Amethyst the Crystal Gem.

It took them thousands of years to get to this point. Thousands.

But it’s always been that way for the newbie, hasn’t it? Steven is just as out of the loop. Steven has been ignored and refused information as a staple of his entire life. It’s a battle to get the simplest tidbit out of Pearl and Garnet, and they hold all the answers.

I repeat: Pearl and Garnet know everything (in a metaphorical sense). Steven and Amethyst know next to nothing.

It’s Amethyst who first gives Steven a glimpse into the reality of Gems. It’s Amethyst who shows Steven the Kindergarten, explains to him how Gems (or, at the very least, Quartzes) are made. Amethyst gives him the keys because she’s always been forced to hotwire the car, and she doesn’t want him to have to feel that rejection like she has.

Because, outside of this, what does she know about her own history? She doesn’t. She’s been denied access.

Would knowing she was defective hurt? Of course it would. It hurts her now. But knowing isn’t a bad thing. It’s given her understanding. Amethyst finally understands why she’s felt off from Pearl and Garnet and Rose her whole life- it’s not all in her head, it’s also in her gemetics

So many bits and pieces of her life must make sense now. Why she couldn’t beat Pearl when Rose probably could. Why she’s flung more easily by corruptions and gets hurt and poofs more easily (not more often- that’s her recklessness)- her body isn’t quite normal. It doesn’t operate under normal Gem rules.

Would knowing more about Rose’s history hurt? Of course. But it’s also key to his character. Steven’s grown up idolizing Rose. Steven honestly thinks the Gems want him to be like Rose. And, one time, maybe he even wanted to be a little like Rose.

They didn’t have to tell him about Pink Diamond. They didn’t have to tell him she started a war. All they really needed to do was talk openly about her, about her flaws as a person, but, again, he’s been refused access. Pearl and Garnet don’t want Steven to know Rose the Gem, even now. Pearl and Garnet want Steven to know Rose the Idea. And, honestly, we’re past that point now. We can’t go back to that now. But they won’t go forward, either.

That’s one of the major differences between Steven and Amethyst- Amethyst has given up trying. Amethyst takes what she knows, the little bits and bobs, sticks them together with theory glue and hotwires the car. Steven has gotten the keys handed to him, once, and still has part of them now- he has Amethyst, who doesn’t lie about Gem things anymore, she just Doesn’t Know- and he doesn’t want to hotwire the car. He wants the full set of keys.

More than that; he’s willing to fight for the full set of keys.

He argues when Pearl and Garnet try to shut him out. He turns away from Garnet when she asks him to stay Just Because (he still would’ve gone if she had told him about BD, of course, but he doesn’t know that then). Amethyst?

Amethyst backs off and watches the drama. She doesn’t believe for a second that it’ll get him anywhere. She’s given up. In her mind, it’s only a matter of time before Steven does too.

Storm in the Room thoughts

I’m about to go to sleep but I wanted to share a few thoughts on Storm in the Room!

I loved it. Easily one of my favorite episodes of the series (maybe even like, top ten). This meeting between Rose and Steven is something people have been thinking and theorizing about since literally episode one, and I just felt like the payoff was so good.

The thing that cements it as great in my book is the last couple of minutes, when the storm starts. First of all, the storm is so visually striking and the animation is stunning!! Rose’s hair looks great, Steven’s expressions and the framing of everything felt totally perfect. I really, really liked the way the colors of the room changed to a darker pallette that was still colorful. Normally depicting storm clouds in cartoons is so dull, because the only thing that changes is the clouds turn gray. For this, we got a beautifully animated and colored scene that definitely sticks out. The visual of Rose in the center of a storm with Steven kneeled down in front of her was really heavy hitting. And I feel like making peace with his role with regard to Rose will help Steven move forward, for sure.

It seems like he has to come to terms with the fact that he will never *actually* know or have a relationship with his mom. But then, the ending really tied it together by showing that despite not having his mom in his life, he still has a *great* support network and a loving family that will ALWAYS be there for him, so he’s never truly alone. Plus oh my gosh it was adorable seeing them all roll in and cheer Steven up, even though they had no idea what had just happened–it was exactly what he needed. And you know what I need? More adorable fluff, slice-of-life type stuff that includes the Gems. Cuz this pizza party is just so cute?? I also need sleep, so I’m gonna head out. Love you guys!

SU Theory: The Next Bomb?

Hey guys! Today I am here to discuss the possibility that Steven Universe could return from hiatus with a Steven Bomb, and what that bombs theme/storyline could be.

First off, why do I believe that SU will return with a bomb? Well, the scenario currently is perfect! Not only is it the end of season 4 apon us, there is only 5 episodes left in season 4. AKA, perfect Stevenbomb format.

Here is my first theory on what the bomb could be about.

The Lion Bomb

A title for a episode was recently released on Zap2it, with that episode being Lion 4: Alternative Ending. With the title of the next Lion episode being released, it got me thinking, What if the whole next bomb was about Lion? At the moment, we barely know anything about Lion. We know that he’s connected to Rose, has magical powers( some of which may still be undiscovered), and that he may or may not  have been a normal lion at some point. A few things that could be covered int he bomb would be…

  • What exactly is Lion?
  • Was he ever a normal Lion?
  • More detail on his connection to Rose
  • Why does he have magical powers?
  • How did he get these powers?
  • Why did rose put stuff in Lion?
  • Was Lion always Lions real name?
  • Why did Lion stick around with Steven ?
  • What is in that treasure chest in lions mane?

While I do believe this Lion Bomb had a decent chance of happening, I do believe there is a different story arc that has a better chance of happening.

The Diamonds Return

A popular current theory is that the diamonds will return to Earth, or send other gems to earth, to get more humans for The Zoo. This is supported by Yellow Diamond saying “There’s still time”, after hearing the Earth is still intact, and after hearing that Blue Diamond wants more humans for the zoo. I believe the next bomb could revolve around the Diamond coming Earth and discovering the CGs. it would be best to cover this sooner that later, since it would be a good season closer and it would be hard to cover this in the final, since so much has to be covered in season 5.

I believe the bomb will open with the Famethyst and Holly Blue will return to Earth with the Diamonds order to get more humans ( since what better gems to send to get humans than the ones that take care of them) Shortly after arriving, conveniently in Beach City most likely, Amethyst will confront the Famethyst and tell them to stop, with help from Steven. This will most likely go well, due the Famethyst being very trusting of the CGs. Holly Blue, however would not be to onboard with the idea of the Famethyst ditching the mission just to hang out with Steven and Amethyst. This would lead to the first battle of the bomb: Steven and Amethyst vs. Holly Blue. This battle would most likely much harder than the first showdown with Holly Blue since A) Pearl and Garnet aren’t here to help this time, and B) Holly would have most likely learned here lesson from last time. I don’t believe Holly is a weak gem, just the first time she was caught by surprise. The fight would most likely end with the Famethyst stepping in to end the fight, poofing Holly Blue, and with Holly Blue being bubbled.

After this, I can see two events happening in the next episodes

  • War Stories

With the Famethyst now around, we would get a chance to see something we haven’t seen much of : A Homeward soldiers side of the war. While we have seen a bit of this from Jasper, this would allow us a more in-depth look at what it was like for a Homeworld soldier. This would be especially interesting coming from Skinny or  Carnlienian, and what it could be like to live in the shadow of ‘A perfect Jasper’.

  • Beach City

This episode would basically be about the Famethyst hanging out in Beach City for the day. This would not only give time for some more development for the Famethyst, but would also lead to some fun interactions between the Famethyst and the residents of Beach City.

But what happens next? Here is my guess on the second half of the bomb, The Diamond come to Earth.

But why do the diamonds come to Earth? My best guess on what happens is that Holly blue would escape, and, realizing that she cant take on the CGs alone, and finds a way to contact the Diamonds, informing them of the situation. The Diamonds, furious that there are still Crystal gems around, would come to earth to deal with the problem themselves.  This would lead to the final part of the bomb, The Diamonds vs. The Crystal Gems.

The CGs would most likely defeat the Diamonds, since this show still has one more season. As for how they defeat The Diamonds, I do not know. My best guess is that it would be a combined effort from all the CGs and their allies. after the Diamonds are defeated, they’ll flee back to Homeworld, with Holly Blue in tow.

The Aftermath of the Diamond Bomb

I believe after the Diamonds are defeated, two things will happen

  • The Famethyst

I don’t believe the Fam will be sticking around. For, they are needed back at The Zoo. After all, they are the ones who take care of them. But, I don’t think this will be the end of the Fam. I do believe there will be a episode in season 5 where the Famethyst do return, but with the humans in tow. This could lead to a episode where Steven tries to help the humans adapt to life on Eath.

  • The Diamonds

After realizing that they cant take on the CGs themselves, Blue and Yellow would go back to Homeworld to get the help of someone even stronger than them

I believe, season 4 will end with the Diamond that’s been foreshadowed since season 1

David Tennant’s Contributions to Doctor Who Episodes
Silence in the Library “Scanning a Planet” Edition

Excerpt from the Silence in the Library DVD commentary track

Steven Moffat: I expanded this a bit [scene toward the beginning of the episode with the Doctor and Donna talking in the library], which set off David on some whole thing about the sonic screwdriver

David Tennant: Oh yeah… [laughs]

Steven Moffat: I get a message saying, “David is worried about whether or not the sonic screwdriver could do that”

Julie Gardner:  …and you were like “shut up, they’re extra pages!”

Steven Moffat:  You think, “He’s working hard, the boy” isn’t he?  I mean it could mend barbed wire and light candles…  It’s a bit late to object..

David Tennant:  Well we changed it, didn’t we?  Because at one point the idea was I stick the sonic screwdriver up in the air and it took a sound reading of the whole planet!  I just queried if we were stretching it…

Excerpt from David Tennant’s Panel at AwesomeCon in D.C. (June 2017)

David Tennant:  It’s always interesting, the relationship between real science and the science of science fiction.  I think it works best, on Doctor Who, even though you’re talking about time travel which doesn’t necessarily exist yet, or things that we might aspire to, or things that we can dream of, it works best when it seems credible.  When you can just about imagine that we might be able to get there one day. Everyone has their own threshold for that, I suppose.  […]  If it gets too preposterous, it takes you out of it [the story].  I think that’s quite a tricky thing to navigate. Occasionally I bump up against it myself.  I remember in the library story, there was this point where, with the sonic screwdriver, in 1 second I had to scan the entire planet.  I thought, yeah it can mend barbed wire, I’ll buy that, but scan an entire planet in 1 second? Or should we just use that computer monitor over there - somehow for me that felt a little bit more… I can buy that, I can just about stretch to that.  But that was my own particular threshold.

Orig.Poster’s note: This post is part of a series on some of the contributions that David made to episodes of Doctor Who, because he sometimes gets questions about ad-libs or input he may have had to episodes, but he tends to not take credit for his various additions/suggestions - so I figured I’d list some for him. This instance is an example of David questioning the believably of a particular plot point, and others agreeing with him and changing the story due to David’s good idea (and I agree with David - that is a bit much to ask of the sonic, particularly when you’re on a planet that has a giant computer at its core - a computer that easily could be linked to sensors scattered over the planet’s surface to determine the current attendance/population).

Pearl & Amethyst - Season 1 Analysis (PART 1)

TLDR; At the start of the series, Pearl and Amethyst’s relationship was shown to be a bit rocky (pardon the pun). However, it was also implied that this was not always the case. Season 1, in many regards, was set-up for Pearl and Amethyst’s growth in the seasons to follow.

~~~~
Gem Glow
A lot of people have forgotten about this little nugget of info from the first episode! While attempting to teach Steven how to summon his weapon, Amethyst asks “Did Pearl tell you the petal thing?”. This suggests that, in the past, Pearl attempted to train Amethyst after she was found in the Kindergarten. This subject doesn’t come up again until Season 3, in “Steven vs. Amethyst”, when Pearl is surprised that Amethyst wants to train. (This subject might be addressed again when we finally get the “Amethyst origin” episode).
Cheeseburger Backpack
This episode is full of moments where Amethyst convinces Pearl to do things a little “impulsive” for her. After bickering over an egg, Amethyst is the one to convince Pearl to allow Steven on a mission because it’s “educational”. She knows this is something that Pearl values. Pearl isn’t THRILLED with the plan, but she relents.
After Steven shows some ingenuity during the mission, Amethyst begins the chant of “CHEESEBURGER BACKPACK!”. Pearl joins in with the chant, after Amethyst nudges her into doing so.
At the end of the episode, Amethyst and Pearl begin to chant “Cheeseburger backpack!” again. This time, Pearl doesn’t need to be asked; she just does it!
It’s also worth noting that, near the climax of the episode, Amethyst grabs Pearl’s arm for second when Steven reveals he forgot the Goddess statue. Despite the bickering in this season, they do tend to stick together when things get hairy.
Together Breakfast
Pearl and Amethyst again bicker over something silly (Amethyst taking a sword, Pearl cleaning Amethyst’s “awful mess”). Season 1 is where this bickering happens the most. It’s worth noting this, since In later seasons, the bickering is almost non-existant. Season 1 is basically the set-up for their gradual character growth. (Pearl does agree with Amethyst to order a pizza at the end of this episode, though!)
Cat Fingers
In a now famous scene, Amethyst shape shifts into Pearl and proceeds to smack her butt, proclaiming “WOMP WOMP”. This is the first, but certainly not last, instance of Amethyst imitating Pearl. It’s interesting to note that, out of anyone else in the show, Pearl is Amethyst’s most common person to imitate.
Amethyst impersonating Pearl in “Reformed”
Amethyst impersonating Pearl in “Crack the Whip”
Pearl gets angry, and tells Amethyst that she is “overdoing it” with the shapeshifting. Amethyst becomes annoyed in response.
Many episodes later, in “Rocknaldo”, Amethyst shapeshifts into Ronaldo, and makes fun of his blog. Instead of becoming annoyed like in Season 1, Pearl compliments Amethyst’s on her shapeshifting, and Amethyst happily replies “Thanks!”. This is in sharp contrast to Pearl’s opinion on shapeshifting in Season 1.
At the end of Cat Fingers, Pearl blames Amethyst for Steven’s shapeshifting problems, and Amethyst replies “that’s fair”. Pearl also tells Steven to listen to her, and never to Amethyst. In the future episode “Know Your Fusion”, the opposite happens. Pearl compliments Amethyst for being a “good influence” on Steven, and gives her a big hug, causing Amethyst to become a little bashful.
Bubble Buddies
In this episode, Pearl and Amethyst show equal excitement in the fact that Steven “likes” Connie. Both approach her at the end of the episode, asking Steven to introduce them. They also tell Connie that Steven was “very excited” to meet her, embarrassing him further. This is very much like real life parents, whenever you bring a boy/girlfriend home for the first time. I personally find their shared glee over Steven’s love life to be adorable. If Steven and Connie ever become a couple, I hope this shared behavior continues.
Serious Steven
Pearl and Amethyst are shown riding the teacup ride together. Amethyst is bored, and Pearl realizes she missed the point of the ride.
While trying to escape the upside down pyramid, Amethyst suggests taking Steven with her when they split up. Pearl takes Steven away from her, saying they are a “disaster waiting to happen”. In the future episode “Know Your Fusion”, Pearl has the opposite opinion, saying that Amethyst is a good influence on Steven (due to the introduction of Smoky Quartz).
A little later, while still trying to escape from the pyramid,  Amethyst is encased in ice. Pearl immediately attempts to chip her out, but with limited success.
Tiger Millionaire
At the start of the episode, Pearl is angry at Amethyst for acting foolish during a mission. When she later finds out that Steven and Amethyst have been wrestling together, she becomes even more angry. However, after Steven explains why they like to wrestle, and why Amethyst needs an outlet to be herself, Pearl (and Garnet) have a change of heart, and actually help them win their match.
Much later, in the episode “Back to the Barn”, Amethyst invites Pearl to go wrestling after she watches her fight with Peridot. Whether or not Pearl ever took Amethyst up on the offer is not clear.
Steven’s Lion
This episode, in my opinion, has a lot of foreshadowing for Opal (who will soon be making her first appearance!) At the start of the episode, Amethyst taunts Pearl for nagging her after flipping over Steven for fun. LAter, Amethyst is shown to have defeated the Desert Glass, which makes Pearl a little jealous.
Once the Desert Glass reforms on the beach in front of Steven’s house, and is defeated by Steven/Lion, Pearl again nags Amethyst for being careless. Amethyst states simply that she “forgot”. This shows a major part of Amethyst and Pearl’s strengths and weaknesses, and how they actually play off each other. Pearl is very “by the book”, and doesn’t do things on the fly. Amethyst is the opposite. Being overly organized and paranoid means that Pearl has a hard time adjusting to new situations, and problems. Amethyst helps Pearl to be a little more spontaneous, and not panic as much. Amethyst, being very impulsive about things, sometimes gets herself into a corner. Pearl helps her out when this happens, and reminds her that sometimes you DO have to think ahead, not just charge in without thinking. Both ways have their pros and cons, and both characters help each other overcome these problems when they are willing to cooperate (as Opal, and as individuals!)
Arcade Mania
When the drill parasites attack Pearl and Amethyst on the beach, Amethyst grabs Pearl into an awkward hug so that she is not hit by the enemy.
Despite the bickering, they really do care about the well being of the other.
PART 2 OF THE SEASON 1 ANALYSIS IS HERE!
If you think I missed anything in the episodes above, let me know! Maybe I’ll add on!
Thinkin’ about the differences between Steven and Rose Quartz - specifically, their healing powers.
I’m in love with the slow development/revelation of Steven using kisses to heal people, as opposed to healing tears. Remember back when the healing spit first came up and Garnet told him it was a good thing? It was Steven doing things “his own Steven-y way,” and you thought, aw, healing licks, gross and inexplicable and cute. But now as he’s defining who he is and getting better at what he does, the weird quirk of healing spit is starting to take a shape that makes sense: Disney-style healing kisses!
Ever since that came to light I’ve been wrapped up in the difference between helping people by crying for them - acknowledging their pain, pitying them, experiencing empathy - and helping someone heal by loving them.
Not that Rose Quartz didn’t love! This is not that kind of theory post. But her approach to healing definitely reflected her leadership style: a little distant, motivated by the existence of pain, and focused on getting that pain to stop. It seems like Rose Quartz kept all kinds of secrets from everybody because she didn’t want them to feel more hurt than they had to, even at the cost of their dignity. This makes sense! She was their commanding officer, not to mention embedded in a culture that said all subordinate gems were literally hers. Even if she rejected that explicitly, a lot of the implications of being solely responsible for every gem under her command were going to stick around.
But Steven is not Rose Quartz. His approach to healing is the difference between hiding what happened to Bismuth and telling the Gems; one outcome will make them sad for a while and then move on, the other opens up the kind of painful emotions that don’t get pushed away maybe ever. The last one hurts, but if he really respected Bismuth as she is it’s the right thing to do. His approach to healing is also the difference between declaring corrupted gems a lost cause because they might never be all the way healed, and just listening to and spending time with them whether they’re healing or not. Centipeedle’s corruption was a barrier to them being friends, not a disqualifier.
Rose Quartz loved life and wanted to protect it, then cried when she couldn’t because preventing bad things was her self-appointed job. Steven just wants to be your bud but pain keeps getting in the way, so if he can he’ll make it stop.
Pity vs love, basically. Idk, I’m having trouble summing this up the way I want to, but I adore how this show is handling Steven being different from Rose Quartz in a hundred subtle ways like this.
***************
The first time something happened between Steve and Thor, it was after a tough battle. The team had been scrambling to work together, to keep their heads about them, and it had very nearly ended in several civilian casualties.
It had been a bad day.
“Movie night. One hour.” Tony snapped as the team stumbled through the doors of the common area. “Mandatory. Today was awful and we all need to reboot.”
“Sure thing, Stark.” Natasha agreed wearily, and looped her arms over Clint’s neck. “Carry me.”
“I gotcha babe.” He picked her up easily and sent Tony a smile. “We will be back after a shower. Can I order pizza?”
“Whatever you want, bud.” Tony said instantly, and reached for Bucky’s hand. “Shower for us too, soldier.”
“Sure thing, sweet thing.” Bucky drawled, and kissed Tony gently. “Cap, you want to pick a movie? We will be back.”
“Nobody likes the movies I pick out.” Steve argued good naturedly and Bucky made a face.
“Yeah. Me either. Thors out too, he takes forever to decide.”
“Damn you guys.” Sam rolled his eyes and dropped his wing pack on the floor. “I will pick a movie. You guys go shower.” He clapped Steve on the shower as he passed on his way to the movie room. “Take a load off Cap. You look tense.”
“Yeah.” Steve smiled, or at least he did until Sam left, then he let his shield drop with a thunk and sat heavily on the couch.
It was hard some days.
Hard to pretend like everything was okay all the time. Hard to pretend like he knew what to do with himself if he wasn’t fighting. A soldier who couldn’t fit into a world not at war.
It seemed to be getting worse lately, this feeling of not belonging.
He didn’t know why, and he didn’t know how to make it stop.
So he just sat on the couch with his head in his hands and waited to be called down to watch another movie full of references he didn’t really understand and didn’t really care too.
Bucky, of course, didn’t understand them either, but he had Tony on his lap explaining things in a quiet voice in between kisses. It was adorable in a borderline disgusting way.
Almost six months ago Bucky had stood up at the breakfast table and in typical charming Bucky style, had announced that he would love nothing more than to take Tony out for a date, because he figured it would be rude to stare this much without at least buying him dinner.
Tony had blushed and stammered and then had just walked over and kissed Bucky square on the lips. Bucky had swooped him up and carried him out of the room and they hadn’t left the bedroom for the rest of the day.
Steve had been so happy for his best friend, and at the same time, the saddest he’d been in a long time.
Because after finally getting Bucky back, Bucky had found someone else.
And Steve didn’t have anyone.
anonymous asked:
How would you respond to people who say Bryke is the reason ATLA is great? Like they came with the idea yes, but they aren't writers and the show isn't great because of them.
Here’s the thing:
Bryke are, in fact, part of the reason that Avatar is as great as it is.
But their contributions are very much not to the depth of the show.
You see, what Bryke are good at, and I mean really good at is:
1. Visuals:
They made the initial sketches, character design, creature design, etc.
Aang? Zuko? Katara? Sokka? Bryke’s design. Appa, Momo? Most of the mix ‘n’ match creatures? Bryke. The Blue Spirit? All Bryke.
2.Rule of Cool:
You know what my second favorite episode of the whole show is?
“The Blind Bandit”
You know why?
It’s because those three minutes where Toph lays the smack down are the single coolest three minutes of the whole show.
Bryke are extremely good at ‘Wow!’. They don’t have the skill nor the patience for the “boring”, gradual character development stuff. They like Big, and they like Flashy, and they like it Now.
And when they have someone to reign them in, that makes for some damn fine episodes.
The problems started when they, for some reason, I’m guessing fame and fan praise going to their heads, started believing their own hype. It’s pretty much the same thing that happened with Steven Moffat. He wrote some of the best episodes of Russell T. Davies’ run of Doctor Who. Then he became show-runner and it all went to hell.
I guess that the tl;dr; would be:
Bryke were the Style part of the show. The part that hooks you, and gets you interested in it. The Substance, the reason why you stick around, and why we all remember, and talk about A:tLA more than ten years later, came from Aaron Ehasz and his team of writers.
And honestly? I think it’s time to give credit where credit’s due.
anonymous asked:
Your stories make me incredibly happy, and I see your thingum (header?) is Chicago. Can you maybe tell a story at some point about the Magnificent Mile and/or the Tribune Tower?
I actually just moved here a few months ago, so I’m not supremely familiar with either beyond wikipedia and an architectural tour! I’ll sure give it a try anyway, thanks for the prompt!
————————————
The Tribune Tower is a magical hodge podge nightmare place that Steven sort of wishes would just be transported to another dimension already. As the tower’s watcher, he’s not allowed to wish that, but his boss can’t mind read so.
The tower can fuck right off.
Objectively, it’s quite pretty. Gothic design hoisted high into the air, buttresses, stone, the whole nine-yards. His parents had said things like “scenic” and “honor” and “historic” when he’d first been assigned. Back then, he’d even agreed with them.
Now he knows better.
“Get. Your. Hand. Off. The. Stone,” he says through gritted teeth. He’s not angry; he’s cold. It’s snowing lightly, muffling the world around them. Oh, sorry, the snow’s not muffling the world. That’d be the distraction charm, a charm designed to turn the non-magical eye away, cast by the man crouched at the base of the tower.
The man turns and Steven is suddenly angry and cold.
“Raul,” Steven says, taking his hands out of his pockets. “Now.” The chill races from his hands as he calls fire to them.
“Guardian,” Raoul greets far too cheerfully for someone who’s been caught red-handed. Again. “I was just touching, no need to get all snippy.”
Raoul backs away from the tower, hands raised as if to say no harm, no foul. Steven isn’t about to believe the older man, so he stalks forward, keeping a wary eye on him.
This is what Steven is supposed to be watching. There are stones from all over the world embedded in the tower. The Taj Mahal, the White House, the Alamo. Dozens of historic places have lost parts of themselves to this Chicagoan landmark and, for whatever reason, many of them are at ground level. Where idiot sorcerers like Raoul can just walk right up and touch them.
Keeping Count (Chapter One)(ThunderShield)
So I don’t usually do this–post a chapter of a WIP while I’m posting another story, or even post WIPS in general… but I need some encouragement on my ThunderShield fic?? I’m up to ten thousand words and I’ve erased and started from scratch THREE SEPARATE TIMES NOW. I am worn out, staring to hate this thing, so I need you guys to read this first chapter and just tell me what you think. Am I approaching them with a good dynamic? Does it sound believable? HELP ME!
****************
The first time something happened between Steve and Thor, it was after a tough battle. The team had been scrambling to work together, to keep their heads about them, and it had very nearly ended in several civilian casualties.
It had been a bad day.
“Movie night. One hour.” Tony snapped as the team stumbled through the doors of the common area. “Mandatory. Today was awful and we all need to reboot.”
“Sure thing, Stark.” Natasha agreed wearily, and looped her arms over Clint’s neck. “Carry me.”
“I gotcha babe.” He picked her up easily and sent Tony a smile. “We will be back after a shower. Can I order pizza?”
“Whatever you want, bud.” Tony said instantly, and reached for Bucky’s hand. “Shower for us too, soldier.”
“Sure thing, sweet thing.” Bucky drawled, and kissed Tony gently. “Cap, you want to pick a movie? We will be back.”
“Nobody likes the movies I pick out.” Steve argued good naturedly and Bucky made a face.
“Yeah. Me either. Thors out too.”
“Damn you guys.” Sam rolled his eyes and dropped his wing pack on the floor. “I will pick a movie. You guys go shower.” He clapped Steve on the shower as he passed on his way to the movie room. “Take a load off Cap. You look tense.”
“Yeah.” Steve smiled, or at least he did until Sam left, then he let his shield drop with a thunk and sat heavily on the couch.
It was hard some days.
Hard to pretend like everything was okay all the time. Hard to pretend like he knew what to do with himself if he wasn’t fighting. A soldier who couldn’t fit into a world not at war.
It seemed to be getting worse lately, this feeling of not belonging.
He didn’t know why, and he didn’t know how to make it stop.
So he just sat on the couch with his head in his hands and waited to be called down to watch another movie full of references he didn’t really understand and didn’t really care too.
Bucky, of course, didn’t understand them either, but he had Tony on his lap explaining things in a quiet voice in between kisses. Almost six months ago Bucky had stood up at the breakfast table and in typical charming Bucky style, had announced that he would love nothing more than to take Tony out for a date, because he figured it would be rude to stare this much without at least buying him dinner.
Tony had blushed and stammered and then had just walked over and kissed Bucky square on the lips. Bucky had swooped him up and carried him out of the room and they hadn’t left the bedroom for the rest of the day.
Steve had been so happy for his best friend, and at the same time, the saddest he’d been in a long time.
Because after finally getting Bucky back, Bucky had found someone else.
And Steve didn’t have anyone.
frieza-fan27  asked:
Do you think the Volturi have a horror movie night and if so how do they react to it like does Aro yell at the tv, or Caius jumping when he sees a werewolf?
I most definitely think that the Volturi have a fascination with horror movies and definitely have a movie night. But their reactions and reasons for liking them are all different.
Aro likes to correct and comment through the movies about the origins of all of the monsters, and correct what the movies got wrong. Especially the while watching the vampire movies. Though I can’t really see him yelling at the screen personally.
And Caius, he’s more likely to become uncomfortable while seeing a werewolf on the screen, but he sticks around to watch it die, because that’s the best part for him. Maybe he does jump when there is a jump scare and all of the sudden he’s getting some flash backs to when he almost died though for him its worth it because he gets to see it die.
Marcus, I feel like with most things he’s just there because that’s where everyone else is at the moment. He has more of an interest in horror movies where there is an interesting and twisted plot like a Steven King movie. For the most part I don’t see him reacting physically with a horror movie.
Sulpicia and Athenodora are not women who are easily shocked, while I see them as very interested in the horror movies I don’t see them getting scared. Though I do see them laughing at the ridiculousness of some of the horror movies and all of the old cliches that have existed through all horror movies.
Jane and Alec are rather young so they do get kinda frightened by all of the scary monsters. This doesn’t bother them for long, because they know that they are the in truth the scariest things out there, but I see them jumping during the jump scares and holding one another’s hands.
Demetri, isn’t much of a modern horror movie fan. Though he does like to watch the vampire movies because he loves the romanticism of the vampire and strangely aims to be like the fictional vampire. So if he is watching another sort of horror movie he lounges back and watches it with interest, but for the most part he wants to be watching Interview With A Vampire, or Dracula.
Felix does not jump, because no one would ever let it go. Instead when something scary happens he laughs at those who do jump covering up the fact that he is actually kinda scared. Though he is one of those who loves to be scared he just doesn’t want to be known at the extra-large scaredy cat.
Why don't the off color gems just hide in Lars hair when ever a scanner thing comes by and work their way toward a ship and steal it? Or would the g force kill Lars?
i don think the g force would kill lars– in Adventures in Light Distortion steven accidentally turned off the calibration that kept the pod stabilized which is why he experienced a ton of g force for that few minutes
as for hiding–they probably could if it came to that but fluorite and rhodonite would need to unfuse
They said off colors stick together though so they likely wouldnt hide so they could comfort and protect lars until the gems arrive
Decibel
(Tarn and Kaon fusion)
Decibel is one happy mech. This guy can’t stop smiling, he loves to use his 4 electric sticks to beat his enemies to death. Even if you manage to disarm him of his rods, he can still form two smaller fusion guns on each of his arms. This guy is surprisingly very stable and will probably give you little “love shocks” if you’re alone with this thing. He also likes to talk about Cyberforming (Eco-structuring).
Angsty GTA!Steven Headcanons
-He was raised normally in a nice neighborhood and all but ended up getting in trouble more and more as he got older because he kept getting bored
-As soon as he graduates high school, he’s out of town and heading west to Hollywood to get into the movie business
-Almost immediately he gets into trouble with like ten different gangs who all demand things of him
-So instead of becoming a famous actor like his hero, James Allen McCune, he ends up in the criminal underworld
-In the end, he sticks around a badass named Reina and her crew
-He slowly rises through the ranks in that crew until, whoops, they fuck around too much on FAHC’s territory. He barely makes it out alive with Reina and a few others, but it leaves him on edge for literally months
-Now he is almost always on edge about something, whether it’s an upcoming heist or Brett popping in with his crew to have a “friendly visit”
