Okay so here are my thoughts on the bullshit aka this entire god forsaken season (and I’ve never made an essay post in my life) - I have never seen a season of Big Brother THAT SHOWED PROMISE tank this quickly. And yeah, you can say that things will pick up, but even after thinking about this a lot I really don’t see that happening.
I realized my biggest problem with this season, is that Allison Grodner and production ruined and soiled a perfectly okay cast by sending in one single returnee. Sure, this wasn’t the greatest cast of newbies by any means, but they all showed pretty unique personality at the start. But with the casting of “fan favorite” Paul, they catered and manipulated the entire show to him. It shows in how much he is edited (even aside from the week he was not hoh), and it is shown by how easily manipulated these people are to work with, which all started with grooming them into trusting him with the friendship bracelet twist.
Ever since that twist, they all knew that they could go to him, and the foundation of many of their games relied on going to him - the ONE returnee (unlike last season where you had a choice of 4 unique individuals to run to) - and his thoughts on how they should play the game. This wasn’t a coaches twist. This was a get everyone to trust and protect the one returnee twist.
Ever since even the first night of the game, the damage has been done. Many personalities that we could have enjoyed (Christmas, Elena, Mark, etc) have been washed out by Paul’s brainwashing. And honestly? It isn’t entirely their faults. It comes under the fault of some of the most blatant rigging I have ever seen by BB production.
At this point, I see this entire season as a complete insult to the fans. Nothing more, nothing less. The fact that production put the entire fate of a season on the shoulders of ONE MAN just goes to show how reckless they were in putting this season together. Because guess what? The majority of the fanbase - even the casual viewers - have turned against Paul and are tired of him. And since this season was set up so much to blatantly be Paul-centric, that is what will ultimately define this season. At this point, I don’t see a majority of the houseguests really standing up to do anything about it. Some of them have even voiced not caring if they lose as long as they make jury - something that interestingly enough we actually haven’t really ever seen before. The drive in some of these HGs had is gone, and their personalities that could have shined had Paul not been cast are gone with it.
So thank you Allison Grodner and the production team of BB19 for wasting the potential of a perfectly fine cast just so you could have fun with a so called “fan favorite.” And it’s funny too because you would think after Survivor (another CBS show) tanked Redemption Island so hard that Big Brother wouldn’t make the EXACT. SAME. MISTAKE. But that’s just me : )
