he's a freshman in high school

Some of you are saying that the citizens of Hasetsu probably think Viktor is just Yuuri’s eccentric foreign boyfriend and I cannot say how much I agree.

“What a nice young man,” says Tamura-san, who used to run the fish shop in town and now usually sits beside the register and chats with customers while her grandson rings them up. She was born before ice skating was declared an Olympic sport and has absolutely no idea who Viktor Nikiforov is.

“Yes, we’re very glad to have Vicchan staying with us!” Hiroko says of Viktor, who’s standing behind her cradling fifteen pounds of tuna and smiling brightly at Tamura-san.

“How good of you to follow Yuu-chan home after he graduated!” Tamura-san continues, about ten decibels louder than she needs to. Tamura-san is about 87% deaf in her old age, but nobody has the heart to tell her so. “You must love him very much!”

Viktor, who has no idea what she’s just said to him but who heard Yuuri’s name, just blindly says, “Oh yes!” and grins even brighter.

“Have you seen Viktor Nikiforov?” demands a rabid paparazzo of some poor fisherman just trying to do his job.

“Who?” asks the fisherman, frowning at the lens of the camera.

“He’s tall? Foreign? Silver hair?”

“You mean Katsuki-kun’s boyfriend?” says the fisherman. Katsuki-kun’s boyfriend had run by ten minutes before with his poodle in tow, European synth pop blasting so loud from his headphones that it could be heard for a full minute both before and after he ran past. The fisherman doesn’t exactly know where Katsuki-kun found that guy, but he looks at Katsuki-kun like he hung the stars, so the fisherman can’t blame him.

In the end, he tells the paparazzo to go the opposite direction of the one he just saw Katsuki-kun’s boyfriend go.

A girl from Hasetsu graduates high school the summer Yuuri returns from America and is inspired by his experiences to go to college in America as well. She arrives in her freshman year dorm room and is greeted by a poster of Viktor Nikiforov hung up by her roommate.

“Why do you have a picture of Viktor?” she asks, bewildered. Viktor is wearing a pair of black slacks and a bright pink shirt unbuttoned almost to his navel.

“Oh, you know who Viktor Nikiforov is?” her roommate asks, excitedly.

“Do YOU?” the girl asks, incredulous. Viktor is known to her as “That foreign guy that followed Yuuri back from America when he came home” and also as Viktor-Who-Puts-Jam-In-His-Tea-Like-Who-Even-Does-That. Certainly not as Viktor Nikiforov, Five-Time World Figure Skating Champion and definitely not as Viktor-Who-Deserves-To-Be-On-Someone’s-Wall.

Come October, Viktor has started introducing HIMSELF to people as Viktor I’m Yuuri’s Boyfriend. While half of Russia reads articles about Figure Skating’s Living Legend, a sleepy town in Japan wakes up every morning to Yuuri’s Boyfriend Viktor wheeling through town on his bike with Yuuri and Their Cute Dog.

Viktor loves Hasetsu.

YURI ON ICE X KUROKO NO BASKET AU????

Or, YOI is technically a sports anime but doesn’t follow a lot of tropes, so what if I did an AU where it does? And I just happen to love KnB, so basketball it is. High school sports + the Power of the Team and Friendship ™ + student life + training camps + graduating senpais etc…

When I was a freshman in high school there was a boy named Chris who was a senior who had autism and he really loved Hotwheels. He always wanted to show people his tiny cars and instead of the popular crowd making fun of him they got excited with him. On his birthday everyone bought him Hotwheels and he went home with a backpack full of them. For homecoming they voted him king and gave him a cape with Hotwheels on it. Sometimes high school isn’t so bad.

From Dan’s Rush AMA
  • He’d like to possibly cover Closer to the Heart by Rush in the future
  • His favorite concert of Rush’s he’s seen (out of 11) is the R30 tour in 2004
  • His favorite thing he’s seen them play live is Xanadu
  • He doesn’t plan on trying to start playing an instrument (aside from the bass which he has said he’s mediocre at) because the band he’s got now has such awesome musicians that he wants to focus on being the best vocalist he can be
  • His favorite Skyhill song is Run with the Hunted, and his least favorite is Only One
  • His favorite Rush song to play on the bass is Fountain of Lameneth (but it’s hard)
  • It’s pretty likely that there will eventually be a new Skyhill song or album
  • He first saw Rush in 1994 in NJ at the Brendan Byrne Arena. He’s seen them on every tour since.
  • He’s hoping that next year they’ll be able to tour in the UK, and he’d like to be able to tour in Australia too at some point
  • What influenced him most from Rush is their chord choices, their worth ethic, and their integrity.
  • If he could perform vocals on one song with Rush, it would probably be Time Stand Still
  • His best Rush-related experience was zoning out by himself as a kid and letting their music take his imagination places
  • His favorite Rush albums are A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Caress of Steel, and 2112. His least favorite (though he still loves them!) are Hold your Fire, Counterparts, and Snakes and Arrows
  • The most direct way that Rush has affected him is that they helped inspire him to commit his life to music.
  • His top 3 songs are Xanadu, Hemispheres, and Fountain of Lameneth
  • He started listening to Rush at 13 and he became obsessed with them. He sang their music to himself all day during school.
  • When asked how many Rush shirts he has, his answer was “Too many!!”
  • A Farewell to Kings is his alltime favorite Rush album
  • What initially caused him to enjoy Rush was that it was an awesome sound that he’d never really heard before and lyrics that appealed to his nerdy Lord of the Rings loving self.
  • His favorite >10 minute Rush track is (possibly) Circumstances
  • “ I’m more Jewish by culture than by religion. I certainly believe that there’s a lot to life and the universe that we don’t understand, and I respect anyone who finds their answers in religion, but it’s never been a big part of my life personally.”
  •  His favorite Rush show to watch is one from Rio
  • The song he’s most proud of is 6969 because it’s a comedy prog song, which is something he’s always wanted to do.
  • His favorite part of 2112 is the overture
  • Hemispheres will always remind him of his freshman year of high school. He listened to it constantly.
  • Both him and Arin write the lyrics to Starbomb songs
  • He feels an immediate kinship with other Rush fans. “We’re like a world-wide secret club!”
  • The rush album he feels is most underrated is Presto
  • The first Rush song he listened to was Roll the Bones
  • He would be interested in giving talks about music/comedy/career stuff at colleges or high schools if there was an audience for it.
  • He got into Rush at age 12 because the guy that worked at his local comic book shop (named Keith) introduced him to them. “God bless that man.” Before he discovered them he listened to a lot of Def Leppard and Nirvana
  • Q:  if you were to start your career again today, where would you start? Youtube / twitch / podcasts?
A:  I don’t think I’d do anything differently because even the years of “failure” taught me a lot and allowed me time to improve. Once that spotlight is on you, you’d better be ready for it. I’d say start in the medium that inspires you individually the most and work as hard as you can on it from there.
  • Q:  how do you think the future of NSP has changed now that you guys have topped the motherfucking charts with Under the Covers?? You guys fucking rule and I’m so happy for you and your multitudes of success!
A:  Thank you! We were psyched that our recent albums have charted so well, but I don’t think we’ll do anything differently. We’ll just keep doing what feels right to the best of our ability!
  • 6969 came together quickly when writing it. The video only took so long because it was such a huge jump in ambition and it has a learning curve. “If we do something like that again, things should go a lot more smoothly!”
  • The Pass has helped him through some tough times.
  • (I believe) that the lyrics he’d get as a tattoo are “ All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers learn to look at the cars!”
  • Q: What would you say is the best dish at Olive Garden?
A: The dish where you get up, walk across the street, and eat at Outback Steakhouse
  • He meditates in silence before a show because he’d get overhyped if he listened to music.
  • Doesn’t have a favorite member of Rush, “it’s an equilateral triangle”
  • Says Moving Pictures is usually a safe bet to start off with introducing someone to Rush
  • He picked Madrigal and Subdivisions for the first UTC because he loves them and they’re easy to sing. “I don’t know if I could hit some of those crazy high notes Geddy rocked in the 70s”
  • He thinks Witch Hunt would be a very good song to cover.  Such a great song and so relevant right now! “Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand”
  • His favorite song to try and fail at on bass is YYZ
  • “ I don’t think there’s any conscious decision to have Rush influence my music, but I’ve spent so many thousands of hours listening to them, it’s inevitable that it just comes out naturally”
  •  His favorite album to work on in his career is what he’s doing now (UTC2 and Cool Patrol) because “we’ve grown so much and finally have a full band!”
  • He doesn’t mind when fans are super nervous to meet him. He was nervous when he met Rush, too, “so it’s just the circle of life!”
  • He chose bass because it was different and fun to find submelodies.
  • Q:  Hey Dan! I’m looking forward to Under the Covers 2. I started writing comedy music and NSP is one of my main inspirations. What do you wish you knew about writing comedy music earlier on in your career?
A:  Nothing in particular really. You learn and you go and there’s no substitute for just doing something over a long period of time. Of course there are things I would change about our early work, but it was the best we could do at the time so I have to be cool with it.
  • “I listened to so much of them [Rush] growing up that it’s in my blood and unconsciously shapes the way I approach music”
  • His second favorite album flops between Hemispheres, Caress of Steel, and 2112 on any given day
  • His favorite story/message told in a Rush song→ Story is Fountain of Lameneth because it’s a beautiful summary of life. Message is Spirit of Radio where they talk about the importance of integrity in art.
  • His biggest influences are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Nirvana, Spacehog, and Gentle Giant (to name a few)
  • He does his best on his Rickenbacker bass but it’s just for fun. “My band already has a bass player that’s better than I’ll ever be!”

“Thanks everyone! I have to go see my family now otherwise I’d stay longer. Sorry I couldn’t get to everyone’s questions but I had a lot of fun. I’d be happy to do this again in the future!
You being fans of mine means the world to me and I promise to keep making comedy and music for a long time! Thanks to you, the moderators who set this up, and of course Rush for being an awesome and inspirational force!”

Your grandfather was a fisherman. Your father and aunts and uncles worked the waters and the docks in the coastal town you hail from. It’s not glamorous, and nobody in the family had made it into college before. You grew up in a tidy little house that always smelled a bit of fish with a huge extended family.

Nobody expected the scholarship letter when it arrived, praising your performance in the local high school swim team, and nobody had ever heard of the school. Your parents were thrilled, and so were most of the aunts and uncles. Your grandfather was suspicious, making vague noises that sounded like “tricks and bargains and that kind of business.” What he said out loud was: “Don’t ever leave the sea. It’ll break your heart, girl.”

You were excited and optimistic and exuberant, and you packed your competition suit and a bag of things from home and you went off to college, not listening.

————

Freshman year was odd. You knew you wouldn’t really fit in, given you were a scholarship kid from the back end of the east coast, but it was more than that. You were, of course, on the women’s swim team, but some of the other athletes were … you couldn’t put your finger on it. A couple of the girls seemed too tall, and they never quite got the green from the pool out of their hair. One of the boys was much stockier than the others, a bit like your dad, but he could swim as fast and powerfully as you. He wouldn’t ever speak to you. Some of them were hard to look at, and kept to themselves. Some of them were just ordinary, but they kind of steered clear of you too. It seemed the only thing holding the teams together were the coaches. There were practices, and competitions and your team always did amazingly, but never made it out of state.

Your classes were … classes. Like high school but more interesting. Your managed to keep a decent GPA to hold onto that scholarship, but some of it was a chore. Sandy the RA gave you a list of rules and warned you about some of the other students. There was some superstition about, but given your heritage, none of that seemed off. Fishermen are superstitious folks.

Your roommate was snooty and complained constantly that you still smelled of fish, especially after winter break. You finally told her to go suck a clam and she stopped speaking to you. That was fine with you. You weren’t much for socializing with people who didn’t know the ocean.

That one guy, though, the one who asked you out after the first week of Comp 102 in January. That one, he was great. He was some kind of surfer kid from California. Not a college athlete, but Surfer Boy skated everywhere, talked constantly about the beaches and waves. Somehow tan even in winter.

The third week you were dating, he got you that steel ring for “safety” and you thought it was sweet. It said “always yours” on the inside and got stuck on your finger.

And then - your swimming performance dropped off. They threatened to bench you. There was an uncomfortable conference with the coach and the dean. The rest of the team avoided you even more, and Surfer Boy got … weird. Possessive. Mean.

He thought it was fine that you weren’t competing for a while. He could have you all to himself outside of class time. Isn’t that great? Maybe you could come to California with him for Spring Break. You didn’t want to, though. You wanted to go back to the cold water of home.

Then, about a week after you got benched, out of the blue while you were studying together, he asked you where your skin was. You had no idea what he meant, WTF was this serial killer shit he was asking you? You suddenly remembered Sandy’s warnings, and took off without your books to ask her for help, maybe how to get a restraining order? And maybe to help get this ring off, too.

Sandy the RA (short for Cassandra? Because nobody ever listened to her, not because it was her name) halfway listened to you, nodded tiredly, grabbed a form from a file for submitting to the dean of students and campus security and had you fill it out. Then, as you were both reading the forms over for errors, she looked up sharply, said, “Wait. A ring? Let me see that.”

Sandy took one look at it, got out a saw, and before you could even react, cut it off your finger, in two pieces. One piece said “always” the other said “yours” and she shook her head. “I thought I told you to never accept gifts?”

“But he’s just human, Sandy. Normal, even. More normal than I am.”

“Yeah, nobody ever listens to me.”

Under where the ring had sat for two of the worst weeks of your life, was fur. Sleek, short, dark fur. You yelped.

Sandy blinked slowly, somehow looking completely unsurprised, and said, “That stocky guy on the men’s swim team? The one they call Lion? GO. Talk to him. Show him your hand, he’ll talk to you now. I think he can help.”

As you left, she said, with her back turned, “I don’t think your grandfather was completely honest with you. Have you ever seen any photos of your grandmother? Do you know where she was from?”

you know you’re on my mind

This is part 1/? of a human AU I’ve been wanting to write for AGES in which Derek and Stiles are long-distance friends/pen pals. Derek lives in California and Stiles lives in Poland. Features brief past Stiles/Malia (Derek and Malia aren’t related in this AU). Idk how long this fic could eventually get; I’m hoping to just work on it as I get the time/inspiration.

Title from “Mind Over Matter” by Young the Giant because that song always makes me think of LDRs.

EDIT: This WIP is now also up on AO3 here.

*

If there’s one thing Derek’s learned in life, it’s that crushing on someone who lives on an entire other fucking continent is probably a bad idea.

He’s got dozens of photos of Stiles saved to his phone, and a whole box of letters from Stiles, and years’ worth of emails from Stiles, and a whole wall of postcards from Stiles pinned up on the wall over his bed, and none of it is enough.

He wants to do things to Stiles, okay, things besides just watch movies together in two different time zones or talk on skype.

…which… is kind of a new feeling.

Derek didn’t even know he liked guys until three years ago, freshman year of high school, when Stiles came home from a party raving about this girl he’d kissed, Malia something-or-other, and how Malia’s hair was so soft, and how Malia had the prettiest brown eyes and the best laugh, and—and suddenly Derek wanted to throw his computer against the wall.

“I have to go,” he’d snapped, and slammed his laptop shut and thrown on some jogging clothes.

He was five miles deep into the Preserve before it really sank in, not just the jealousy but the absurdity of the jealousy. He and Stiles had never even met, technically. They were probably never going to live in the same country. There was no logical reason for them not to date other people. Especially given that Stiles might not even like guys, or like him.

Still, he was secretly, guiltily, viciously satisfied when Stiles and Malia broke up barely two weeks later.

And since then the crush has gotten, if anything, worse.

- Then they all heard a laughing somewhere behind them and saw Charles Lee laughing and mocking at them

- Lafayette tried really hard to stop the three of them from getting into a fight with Lee

- They all left the cafeteria and talked more at the garden

- And then the next day they met up with the twins for breakfast when Hercules spotted Lafayette and invited them to eat together with his cousin, James Madison

- Thomas was interested in James from the moment they saw each other and Lafayette snorted at him

- The six of them ate together and Alex, John, Herc and Laf seemed to be getting along really well that they started to get more loud

- James sighed at his cousin before listening to Thomas talk about politics

- Surprisingly, he actually conversed with him really well, unlike the other freshmen he met (he and herc are sophomores)

- Then suddenly the Schuyler sisters entered and Herc waved at them to their table

- The cousins and the sisters knew each other since high school

- Angelica’s a junior while Eliza was a sophomore and Peggy was a freshman

- Lafayette was a bit disappointed in Peggy’s fashion and accidentally said it out loud

- He and Peggy somehow became best friends then

- Peggy doesn’t care about fashion as long as it has flowers, she’s okay with it

- Eliza was texting to her friend and roommate Maria before introducing herself to them

- Somehow the majority of the group were majoring in PoliSci

- Then Lee and Seabury went in and almost all the group groaned

- With all of them hating the two, they exchanged phone numbers then Alex spotted Burr and invited him

- He was hesitant at first but he did anyway

- He was a bit annoyed at how loud they were, with Hercules literally shouting, and Thomas and Alex were almost arguing again with Angelica and James looking at them amusingly, and Lafayette subtly flirted with Herc and Peggy noticing, John laughing as he again held Alexander back, and Eliza smiling at the text Maria sent

- And he suspected that Thomas and Alex would join the debate team (which he, angelica, eliza, and james were in)

- But, in all honesty, he kinda liked these guys

Seattle Rains

A/N: I’m sorry I haven’t been writing requests, but this idea popped in my head and I decided to write it.  Hope you all enjoy!

He only saw her when it was raining.  Maybe it was pure coincidence, or maybe it was a sign.

The first time he met her was a rainy Monday afternoon.  It was the first day of their freshman year in Riverdale High.  Jughead continuously announced to anxiety-ridden Archie and Betty that he was not nervous at all.  He would never admit it, but there was a twinge of fear in his stomach as he walked through the doors of his new school.

The day became a blur in his memories, nothing especially memorable occurring.  Except one thing: her.

(Y/N) had just moved to Riverdale from Seattle, so her rainy first day of school in a small town helped her transition from the large city she was used to.  She sat in her last class of the day, English, when the rain began to pour even harder.  Right as the bell signaling the beginning of class rang, one last boy walked through the door.

Jughead knew that, by being late, he wouldn’t get a seat in the back of the classroom that he craved.  There was only one vacant seat left next to a girl he didn’t recognize.  He sat down next to her, slumping in his chair.

“You’re new, aren’t you?” he whispered as the teacher explained the syllabus.  (Y/N)’s head shifted to look at him out of the corner of her eye, shocked that someone had spoken to her.  She had been ignored all day.

“Yeah,” she confirmed his suspicions.  "How did you know?“

"This is a small town,” Jughead answered.  "Everyone knows everyone.“

"Right,” she muttered, turning her focus back to the teacher.  Jughead, however, continued to stare at the new girl.

“I’m Jughead,” he introduced himself.  "Jughead Jones the third.“

"The third?” (Y/N) quietly laughed.

Jughead shrugged.  "Yeah,“ he responded.  A smile grew on his face.  "It’s funny, though, because most people laugh at my name being Jughead.”

“I think it’s cool,” she complimented.  "I’m (Y/N).“

"Well, (Y/N),” Jughead said, “what’s the-”

“Mr. Jones!” their teacher suddenly interrupted their conversation.  "Ms. (Y/L/N)! Please, no talking while I’m speaking!“

Jughead and (Y/N) muttered ashamed apologies, and with a satisfied nod, the teacher turned back to the board.  Jughead shifted in his chair so that he was slightly facing (Y/N).

"I was gonna ask what’s the best burger you’ve ever eaten,” he explained quietly.  "But that’s a stupid question, because I’m gonna introduce you to a burger that’ll put every other thing you’ve ever eaten to shame.“

"Oh really?”

“Definitely,” he smirked.  "Have you ever been to Pop’s diner?“

The rain reduced to a drizzle as Jughead and (Y/N) walked from school to Pop’s.

"You’re sure you don’t need an umbrella?” Jughead asked for the hundredth time.

(Y/N) laughed, “For the last time, Jughead, I’m fine.  I’m from Seattle; I can handle a bit of rain.”

Jughead’s umbrella offers died down after that, and the two quickly arrived at Pop’s.  They entered the diner, Jughead leading her towards his favorite booth. He sent subtle waves towards all the beaming waitresses who greeted him.

“Someone’s popular,” (Y/N) commented as she and Jughead sat down across from each other.

“I come here quite often,” he shrugged.

A waitress approached the table and asked for their orders.  Immediately, before (Y/N) could even open her mouth, Jughead ordered two cheeseburgers.  About ten minutes later, the same waitress carried out two baskets.  She set one in front of both Jughead and (Y/N).  Jughead watched as (Y/N) picked up her burger.

“Are you gonna eat yours?” she asked before she took her first bite.

Jughead shook his head. “Not until I see your reaction,” he said, biting back a smirk.  (Y/N) shrugged and nonchalantly took a bite.  As her tongue registered the beautifully charred beef mixed with the freshly melted cheddar, topped with refreshing tomatoes and lettuce, Jughead broke out into a grin.

“This is so good,” she moaned, taking more bites of her burger.

“I told you,” Jughead laughed.

“We’re gonna come back here every day and get these, right?” (Y/N) asked, between burger bites. Jughead’s grin widened.

“Whenever you want.”

Riverdale was rainy for that entire week.  On Thursday, their English teacher assigned their first project of the year, splitting the class into pairs.  As if answering both of their prayers, the English teacher paired up (Y/N) and Jughead. They decided to start the project that night, agreeing to meet at (Y/N)’s house.

“I’m sorry about all the boxes,” (Y/N) apologized as they entered her bedroom.  “I still haven’t finished unpacking.”

“It’s no problem at all,” Jughead waved it off.  “My place is even messier, and I can’t make up excuses about having just moved here.” (Y/N) laughed and shook her head, sitting on her bed.  Jughead chose to remain standing, scanning (Y/N)’s room.  He glanced at her pastel blue walls, the simply-framed windows covered by pale white curtains.  He walked in front of the window.

“I think you brought Seattle weather with you to Riverdale,” Jughead commented, pulling (Y/N)’s wispy curtains aside to look at the rainstorm outside her window.  She rose from her bed and walked over to stand next to him.

“Good,” she muttered.  He turned to face her and raised his eyebrows. “I like the rain.”

“So do I,” he agreed, “but this is excessive.”

“No such thing.”

Even without the project, Jughead and (Y/N) frequently met up.  Whether it be the drive in, (Y/N)’s house, or Pop’s, the two always tried to make time for each other.

A month after they met, Jughead decided to introduce (Y/N) to his other two best friends: Archie and Betty.

It was drizzling on a Wednesday when they met in Pop’s, both Archie and Betty immediately adoring (Y/N).

“You must be (Y/N),” Betty smiled, sticking out her hand to shake.  (Y/N) beamed as she happily shook Betty’s hand.  “I’m Betty Cooper.”

“And I’m Archie Andrews,” Archie greeted, choosing to simply wave at (Y/N) rather than shake her hand.

“I’m (Y/N),” she introduced herself, laughing, “but it seems that you already knew that.”

“Jughead talks about you a lot,” Betty giggled, causing (Y/N) to smirk at Jughead.

“Oh really?” she inquired, and Jughead rolled his eyes.

“She’s never gonna let that go,” he complained to Betty and Archie.  “Thanks a lot.”

The four quickly fell into a casual conversation, (Y/N) fitting into the friend group with ease. It felt like she had always been with them in Riverdale.  Archie and Betty noticed the obvious chemistry between her and Jughead, and throughout the dreary evening, Archie and Betty exchanged knowing glances as they observed (Y/N) and Jughead’s interactions.  Neither of them said anything, but instead, they chose to just sit and watch Jughead and (Y/N) slowly but surely fall in love.

After two more months, Betty and Archie grew frustrated with the lack of progression in Jughead and (Y/N)’s relationship.  Riverdale had grown too cold for it to rain anymore, but the snow, in Jughead’s mind, still counted as rain.  It was only frozen.

He hadn’t seen (Y/N) in a while outside of school, both of them too busy.  (Y/N) became buried under her heavy academic burden, and Jughead grew immersed in his writing.  They hadn’t grown apart, they just didn’t grow any closer, much to Betty and Archie’s dismay.

A bitter and cold February passed through Riverdale, and it was during that month that (Y/N) finally met Kevin Keller.  It had been four months since Betty and (Y/N) had met, and the two of them grew very close.  Not as close as (Y/N) and Jughead, but Betty was definitely (Y/N)’s go-to girl.

“You’re gonna love Kevin,” Betty assured her as they sat in Betty’s pastel pink room.

“If you insist,” (Y/N) smiled.  A light knock on the door caught their attention, and they whipped their heads around to see Kevin entering Betty’s bedroom.

“I finally have the privilege to meet the famous (Y/N) (Y/L/N),” he grinned.

“Kevin Keller,” she laughed. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”

“Likewise,” he said, sitting down next to her.  “God, I’ve been dying to meet you ever since Betty started talking about how cute you and Jughead were together.”

“Together?” she lightly scoffed, playfully rolling her eyes.  “Jughead and I are just friends.”

“And you like it that way?” Betty questioned with a smile tugging at her lips.

(Y/N) hesitated for a split second.  “Of course,” she answered.

“You hesitated,” Kevin immediately noted.  (Y/N) released an exasperated sigh.

“I don’t know,” she shrugged.  “I never really thought about it that way.”

“Well maybe you should start considering it,” Betty suggested.  “I’ve known Jughead for years, and I’ve never seen him look at someone the way he looks at you.”

The rest of winter breezed through, and soon April showers began to roll into Riverdale.  It was the rainiest spring they ever had, but it came to no shock to Jughead.  He stood by his belief that (Y/N) brought the Seattle rain with her.

With spring came more free time for (Y/N) and Jughead, allowing them to begin to meet up more often. Their relationship picked up where they had just left off, except with a small alteration.  Jughead couldn’t quite pick up what had changed between the two of them, but (Y/N) knew exactly what it was.

They sat in her bedroom again.  It was a typical scene, but something was different.  The sun was out for what felt like the first time since they met.  Something had shifted in their relationship, and neither (Y/N) nor Jughead knew how to express it.

“The sun’s out,” Jughead gave his daily weather report.  (Y/N)’s eyes lazily flicked towards her window, watching the beams of light float into her room.

“Yes,” she replied simply.

“I don’t think it’s been sunny since you’ve moved here,” he joked, forcing out a laugh.  (Y/N)’s fingers twiddled with the soft fabric of her bed.  Jughead sighed at her lack of response.  They sat in silence for a couple minutes, Jughead continuing to stare out the window and (Y/N) fidgeting on her bed.  Finally, (Y/N) stood up and crossed her arms over her chest as she ventured next to Jughead.

“It was very rude, you know,” she drawled, earning a confused look from Jughead, “that you made me fall in love with you.  Inconsiderate, really.”

A split second of silence passed as Jughead tried to collect his wits.

“Not what you had in mind?”  He smirked.

(Y/N) shrugged.  "Quite inconvenient, actually.“

"I’m not sorry,” he stated, stepping closer to her. He tenderly placed a hand on her cheek.

“Me neither,” she whispered, her gaze focused on his lips.

Without any more hesitation, Jughead brought (Y/N)’s face towards his and pressed his lips against hers, just a feather-light kiss.  She wrapped her arms around his neck in a desperate attempt to deepen the kiss, like a flower craving the thirst-quenching rain.

“You know,” Jughead disconnected their lips, “I lied about liking the rain.”

“Really?”

“Yeah,” he nodded, smiling.  "I just pretended to like it for you.  I actually hate the rain.“

"You are a good guy, Zach" (Zach Dempsey imagine)

P.S. you can send me any ideas. If you want about Riverdale - do it, if you want about 13 reasons why - do it. Just do it haha

WARNINGS: none I think, maybe some fluff and angst? Thats it.

———————–

Some people decides how to act around different people. If they want to show their weak, honest, popular, beautiful or most realistic side of them. Wanting them to show you their realistic side, you have to make them believe, trust and be by their side when they need you the most. It feels like everyone does it, right? Somewhat, yes. Of course, one of them was Zach Dempsey. In school he is guy-who-doesn’t-care or ,how you want me to say, fuck boy.
I met Zach on my first day in Liberty High School. We were in our freshman year. He was already surrounded by group of people who made him laugh. I was standing by my locker, while my body was occupied by anxiety. Two different people in one place. But long story short, I had huge argument with Zach in one of the parties, it made him came at me in school and ask me if I wanted to grab a cup of coffee with him. I gave him a shot and now we are best friends. Best friend who got to see his realistic side, besides his family. The only answer how it happened is - I was by his side, I always supported him and made him feel better about his insecurities. Usually guys don’t know what is joke and what is serious. He may be pain in the ass, but he is caring, gold hearted and friendly. Sometimes he gets angry by stupid things, then he regrets, but doesn’t show. Because he is “the cool guy”, right?
His mom had to work in another side of the country, his sister went to friends house to have “girly weekend” and Zach wanted to have a rest from all parties. On this Friday evening he asked me to come at his place and have some dinner, because it’s been quite long time since we hang out. Somehow it felt like he tried avoid me and I didn’t knew why.
“The way you and your friends called that kid… Wasn’t really nice” I said as I tried to reach plates from the kitchen cupboard. Zach walked next to me and without any problems reached plates and gave it to me.“Thank you” I smiled at him.
“It was just for fun. Plus I didn’t started, Justin was the first one” He shrugged like it was just another casual accident.
“Well that doesn’t let you to be part of this. Just because you’re in Basketball team with popular kids, doesn’t mean you can say shit to other people, Zach!” I raised my voice lightly. I just shook my head and filled our plates with food.
“Are we going to fight, because of this?” Zach asked.
“No.” I putted plates on the table and sat on the chair. “Are you going to stand there or what?” I tried to sound as nicer as I could. He listened to me and did as I said. At first between us was an awkward silence, so to dissipate this vibe I started to talk.
“I know you’re kind guy and what are you doing with your friends… This isn’t you. Because I know you too well. You’re a good guy, Zach”
“But I have friends. They are for me by my side.” Zach tried to defend his, not so nice, friends.
“By calling you a mommies boy, because you care about your family? Excuse me? They are by your side, because…” I stood silent for a few seconds “Nevermind”.
“I guessed that we are going to have a nice dinner after long time, but as I can see, I was wrong, (Y/N)” I heard growing anger in his voice. He finished his meal and walked to the kitchen counter.
“I’m just worried about you. I’m sorry that I act like mom.” I finished my meal too and walked where he was standing. There was that silence again, but I didn’t said anything anymore. I walked in the living room and sat on the couch. My fingers were rushing through every social medias wall. Until I felt body sitting next to me.
“I know I’m doing wrong and I would destroy anyone who would say anything horrible to my sister. But I’m afraid of loosing friends, being rejected, sometimes I’m even afraid to be physically alone.” Zach sighed and I looked up at him. He was playing nervously with his fingers.
“But you’re not alone. You have family who is loving you and believing in you, you have me. All of your group is hiding insecurities behind their words to other people, like all of you want other people to feel the way you feel and I know this feeling. But sometimes you should talk about your insecurities or whats going on inside your head instead of bullying people who did nothing. With your insecurities you can kill human being with words.” I took his hand and tried to comfort him. “You know, the stick has two ends”
“You’re right. Maybe I should stop having my head inside my ass” He giggled.
“You’re not a bad person, Zach. You just should stop being like everyone else.”
He moved slightly next to me and hugged me tightly. After our hug broke, I just putted my head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat.
Zach cleared his throat and started to talk.
“I’m sorry that I avoided you. I just wasn’t feeling myself for a while.”
“Thats okay, everyone have these days.” I looked up at him. We were just staring at each other until I felt my cheeks heating up. I giggled and looked down. I slightly moved away from Zach and nervously started to bit my lip.
“Is everything okay?” I heard his raspy voice.
“Yeah, s-s-sure” I said. There was intense feeling between us, so I started to shake my leg nervously.
“If this is because what happened about a minute ago…”
“No, no, no. I mean, yes.” I started to mumble.
“I love you, (Y/N)” Zach said with shaky voice. It felt like my brain stopped working and in my stomach was flying million butterflies. I just looked at him with shock. “For a long time. It’s now or never, am I right?” He giggled. It felt like he tried to hide his shyness.
“I love you too, Zach” I giggled and looked at him, even if my face burned. But his face had lightly red spots too.
“What? Really?” He was surprised.
“Everyone loves you” I laughed.“So why I wouldn’t love you too? Just in different way.”
Zach suddenly leaned into me and kissed me on my lips. This kiss was soft and careful, but full of feeling. Like he didn’t wanted me to break, like I was a glass and he wanted to keep me.
I placed my hands on his neck, while his hands hold my head. Our kiss broke and he touched his forehead next to mine. I opened my eyes and saw him looking at me. His eyes were shining, his mouth transformed into beautiful smile.
“Thank you, God” He giggled.
This is the Zach I know, the one and only.

Close as Strangers: Chapter One

You were happy it was your last year of school. That was until you had to start tutoring your old best friend, Jeon Jungkook. Otherwise known as “Mr. Popular.”

It was August 20th, the first day of senior year. You were pretty excited, you honestly felt this was going to be a great year. You guess you were also happy this was the last year of high school. You got up and turned off your alarm. Your phone read, 7:15. You’d only lived a couple of  minutes away from school, so you could afford to sleep in a little more.

You got up and grabbed your uniform out of your closet. Yet another reason to be excited about this school year, you only had to wear this god awful thing one more year. You got dressed and went to the bathroom, going through your morning routine. Once you were done and ready you grabbed your backpack and headed downstairs. You went into the kitchen and saw your mom and dad eating breakfast.

Your dad looked up from the paper, “Y/N, look at you. You’re up before noon, how does that feel,” his smile was contagious.

“Forced,” You smiled.

He laughed and went back to his paper. “Y/N,” your mom spoke.

“Yes ma'am?”

She walked over to the table handing you two paper sacks. “Your and Yoongi’s lunch for today.”

You smiled and looked up at her, “Thanks Mom.”

“Sure,” she spoke as she sat down at the table. You’d started to eat some toast that was on the table when Yoogi rushed in.

“Sorry I’m late,” Yoongi shouted from the hallway as he came into the kitchen.

Could you do a Jeff Atkins imagine of being Clay's twin sister and a good player on the girls soccer team and like Monty and Bryce keep harassing you because you're good looking but you can't stand them because they're jerks and Jeff comes to you're rescue when they get aggressive because he considers Clay and you friends and most of all he likes you (and you obviously like him back)??

title: i am lying in wait

word count: 1143

note: it took me writing this fic to realize how much i actually love jeff atkins he’s a cinnamon roll can i just like……. save him……….

Most of the time, attention had never bothered you. In fact, you were used to having all eyes on you. Being one of the best players on the Liberty High girls’ soccer team had proven time and time again that having people notice you all the time just came with the skill. You could, however, discern which attention was unwanted.

High school boys, for the most part, were really fucking stupid. You’d come to this conclusion on your third day of freshman year when Bryce Walker and Justin Foley had come into school smelling of weed and obviously very high. You made a mental note to never get involved with a boy until you were out of high school and into the world of college; you changed your mind when your twin brother, Clay, introduced you to Jeff Atkins, a boy in your grade whom Clay had met in his World History class.

Three years of flirting with one another had led nowhere. It was obvious that you liked Jeff and he liked you back, but it never happened. You were too shy to say anything to him about it and he wasn’t sure if he could bring it up on his own, so there you were, stuck in an endless flirtationship.

Soccer practice was always during the same time basketball practice was, but the basketball players were always done and out before the soccer kids were. You were running defense drills when the boys showed up to sit in the bleachers that lined the field; Bryce and Montgomery were there, as usual, with those shit-eating grins ever ingrained on to their face.

“Looking good, [Name],” Bryce shouted after you.

“Hell yeah, babe! Those shorts are extra short today,” Monty added.

If your face hadn’t already been burning from the effort you were putting into today’s practice, you’d be flushed from embarrassment. Thankfully, your coach came to your rescue the first time, yelling at them to not distract her players. It kept them from making remarks for a while until she left to get some more soccer balls from the gym to practice passing.

As the remarks went on, they grew more and more aggressive. It was obvious these guys were creeps, they always had been, but it made you feel like shit when they objectified you like that. You had to focus extra hard on passing to your partner to block out the comments. Nevertheless, they persisted.

Jeff was just leaving the library, his backpack slung carelessly over his shoulder as he made his way to the soccer field. He always stayed for your practices so he could drive you home and talk with you. Tutoring with Clay was getting done just as the coach was clearing the field, telling the girls to rest up for the game that weekend. He could have sworn he’d be able to hear those sickening catcalls from two of the biggest jerks on campus from three miles away.

As the bleachers came into view, he could see you seated on the very edge of the bottom row, your head down and your eyes focused on switching into a more comfortable pair of shoes instead of your cleats. Bryce and Monty had moved to sit in the two seats above you, and it was clear you were as uncomfortable as could be. With no signs of the two stopping, Jeff approached.

“Come on, [Name], we just think you’re really sexy,” Bryce was throwing down endless nicknames that made you feel worse by the second.

“Hey, Jensen!” Jeff called, smiling brightly in your direction; he could clearly see how relieved you were when he showed up. He grew closer and you stood up, focusing your attention on him instead of the two assholes behind you in the bleachers. The baseball player wrapped a protective arm around your shoulder as he glared up at them. “These guys giving you trouble?”

“Just a little,” you said, shrinking against his side.

“Aw, come on, babe. We were just complimenting you,” Monty supplied, a sickening smirk on his face, one that mirrored the one on Bryce.

You wanted to fold in on yourself, melt into a puddle right there on the sidelines, do anything that would get you away from the two basketball players who made your life a living hell when they were around. What they said was gross, something that really shouldn’t ever be said, yet here they were, clearly making you uncomfortable.

“Listen, de la Cruz. She’s not your babe. I suggest you stop treating her like she’s some piece of meat you can have. She’s clearly uncomfortable with what you’re saying to her and it needs to stop. Learn how to treat a girl and maybe you’ll finally get one,” Jeff retorted quickly, his free hand clenching into a fist.

He didn’t even wait for them to respond; they looked dumbfounded. As they stared, Jeff grabbed your duffel bag, slung it over his other shoulder and coaxed you to his car, a sympathetic look on his face.

“Sorry if what I said back there seemed possessive or something like that,” he apologized as he tossed your bag in the back seat and opened the passenger door for you. “I just know that they’ve been harassing you for a while now and I was getting really mad about it.”

“Thanks. I didn’t have the courage to tell them to stop and even if I did, I don’t think they would have taken no for an answer.”

“It’s no problem.”

The car was silent as Jeff pulled out of the student parking lot. You turned to look at him and rested your hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently.

“Seriously. That was really nice of you to do for me.”

He didn’t turn to look at you, but you could see the smile that pulled at the corners of his lips as you spoke your second thanks. When your hand pulled away from his shoulder and you looked back to the road in front of you, his right hand reached overs to grab yours.

“It’s not right that he was calling you babe and all that. Those are reserved for, like, boyfriends.”

You raised an eyebrow and glanced at him out of the corner of your eye. “Really? Are you trying to tell me something, Jeff?”

The blush creeped adorably fast onto his cheeks and you giggled quietly, intertwining your fingers with his.

“Am I?”

“You know, if you wanna call me nicknames like that, I’m okay with it.”

The roses bloomed an even deeper shade of red, adorning his cheeks with an adorable flush that made him look heavenly in the golden sunshine.

“Alright.”

Silence.

“Hey.”

“Yeah?”

“You think if we go to Rosie’s right now, we could consider it a first date?”

“Gonna ask me out, Atkins?”

“Maybe.”

“Finally.”

Derek is the runt of the litter - a lowly freshman twerp in a family of gorgeous Amazons. He likes to read, has a gift for languages, and a nervous apprehension of everything that high school has to offer. When smug, sarcastic sophomore Stiles Stilinski (say that three times fast) nearly runs him down on the first day of school, it is just the spark of enmity that will affect the rest of their high school years together.

“Oh,” Stiles said, his voice coming out low and breathy, “fuck me.”

“I don’t think that’s on the syllabus, but we can check to see if there’s a spot open in any of his classes,” Scott said, grinning.

“This isn’t an actual professor, though,” Stiles insisted, unable to resist brushing his thumb over the sharp line of the man’s bearded jaw. He was laughing at something off-camera, the shot taken in three-quarters view, his coat collar casually rumpled and opened to reveal a sliver of a simple grey t-shirt. The whole thing was deliberately calculated to lend him a more accessible feel, and god help him, Stiles was falling for it.

When Stiles signed up for Dr. Hale’s intro to history class, he had two goals: knock out the credits his advisor was bugging him to complete before he graduated, and spend a few hours a week daydreaming about his sexy professor’s salt and pepper beard.

Derek, a few months away from turning forty and not sure when his life had started feeling so damn lonely, had never encountered someone like Stiles before. Bright-eyed, sharp-tongued, determined to throw Derek’s carefully cultivated world into disarray…and absolutely the last person Derek should be falling in love with.

Stiles finally scraped together enough money to get his own apartment and he’s really fucking proud of it, okay? He just wishes shit would stop breaking. He also wishes he hadn’t just bitched out his incredibly hot landlord, but that ship has sailed right along with his dignity.

Boyf riend height difference hcs?

  • Jeremy was taller than Michael for like their entire lives
  • Then one summer Michael and his family go to the Philippines for vacation
  • He comes back Freshman year of high school and he’s like “Sup” and is 2 inches taller than Jeremy
  • Its not a crazy high difference but adding the fact Michael’s hair has height it looks like 4-5 inch difference
  • Jeremy can tiptoe and they are the same height
  • Michael has pretty shitty posture from hunched over gaming on beanbags so he looks shorter than Jeremy most times
  • Slouch King Mell
  • Michael likes to lean alot too which adds to the mistaken “Isn’t Jeremy taller?”
  • Its a small difference no one notices until Michael stretches or stands straight for some reason.

Boyfriend Tag - Jeff Atkins

Request: Reader is a youtuber who is doing the boyfriend tag with her boyfriend, Jeff, when he decides to pop the question

A/N: The reader is in BOLD || Jeff is in Italics || They were friends for 2 years and have been dating for the last 5, just for clarification.

“Hey guys, it’s (y/n) and today I’m doing the boyfriend tag with my boyfriend, Jeff!”

“I’m very nervous for this.” Jeff said, letting out a chuckle.

“You shouldn’t be, the questions are fairly simple. Okay, so I have a list of the questions on my phone. There’s 30 questions but we aren’t doing all of them. We’re only doing 17, since we’ve known each other since we were 17.”

“Alright, so you’re going to read a few and then I’ll read a few?”

“Yep! Besides some of them are for me and some of them are for you.”

“What’s the first question?”

“First question is…when and where did we meet?”

“Oh, that’s easy. We met the beginning freshman year in high school in biology class.” You smiled at the fact that he remembered. The last 7 years with him had been magical and scary, but you had never been happier with anyone else.

“Wow, I’m impressed you remembered the class. Nicely done.” Jeff smiled, looking down at his hands. You were lucky. “Okay, next one. When and where was our first kiss?”

“We had our first kiss after we won the championship game for baseball. I think it was the end of junior year.”

“I remember that day like it was yesterday. You hit the home run that made you guys win. You and two other guys scored.” You tell him, kissing him quickly. “Question three: When did you meet my parents?”

“I met your parents right after we started dating junior year. Your mom loved me and your dad talked to me about baseball.”

“I met your parents at the championship game actually. That’s when you told them we were dating.” You looked up into his crystal blue eyes, grinning at him. You considered yourself lucky that he survived his accident during his senior year, you never took anything for granted ever, but you really made sure to be grateful everyday. “Question number four: what is the first thing I do in the morning?”

“You roll away from the window and pull all the blankets with you.” You laugh, slapping his arm playfully. “But if we’re being serious, she usually gets out of bed and makes coffee.”

“When the alarm goes off, you groan and roll over. Once you actually get up, you make breakfast while I pour you coffee.”

“I don’t want to sound cocky, but I do make pretty good waffles.”

“That’s so true. They could be chocolate chip, banana, blueberry, and they all taste amazing!”

“Time for question number five. Who is my BFF?”  You couldn’t help to burst out into laughter. “What’s so funny?”

“You sounded like a girl.” Explaining it to him made you laugh even more.

“Okay, let me rephrase the question. Who is my best friend that isn’t you?”

“Probably Clay. He tutored you in high school, he helped you get me. I think you guys have a lot of history together. What about me?”

“I think Hannah. She was there for you the entire time I was in the hospital after my accident. She was there when I couldn’t be. I think that that’s an important quality in a friend.”

“Aw, Jeff you’re not supposed to make me cry.” He looked down at you as you looked up at him. His arm wrapped around you tightly, pulling you into his side before he gently kisses the top of your head. The questions continued for several minutes and consisted of very different questions like your favorite animal or his favorite food. Eventually you reached the 16th question. “Okay, question number sixteen. Complete this sentence: My girlfriend is __________”

“My girlfriend is…my everything.” You grab his hand and intertwine his fingers with yours.

“My boyfriend is…the one person who completely understands me.” Jeff looks down at your hand and squeezes it lightly.

“I’m making up the last question. I promise it’ll be a good one.”

“Go ahead, Atkins. I trust you.”

“Okay,” He stood up before getting on one knee, pulling the ring from his back pocket of his jeans. “My question is…will you marry me?”

You met John Laurens the day you were born. Since you were fresh from the womb, and he was only one, it’s safe to say neither one of you remembers that day. However, his parents and your parents, being old friends and next door neighbors, remember it very vividly. They love to tell you how John sat next to you in the hospital bed and was completely memorized by you, a tiny, slightly pink baby.

It often times made him blush, especially when his parents joked that he was taken with you since birth.

You were six and John was seven when John declared you to be his best friend. It was your first day at school and you were headed out to recess, where all the first graders were playing. You saw John and ran over to him. You thought his friends would accept you just like John. Instead they sneered at you because you were a girl.

“You can’t play over here with us. Go sit on the swings and gossip with the other girls,” one boy said.

“Guys, it’s okay. She’s my best friend. She’s cool,” John insisted.

“Then you can go gossip with the girls too,” the other boy chimed in.

“Fine,” John grabbed your hand and tugged you away. You smiled at John.

“Thank you,” you said, as the two of you sat on the swings.

“Anytime,” John smiled his lopsided grin.

From then on, that’s the way you always spent recess.

You were ten and John was eleven when John stopped seeing you as just his best friend.

You were both sitting on the hill near your homes. It was the last day of summer. John was stressed about school, and you were trying to cheer him up. Your jokes were corny, but John couldn’t help but be completely enamored by your laugh. He couldn’t even remember what you two had been talking about.

He turned to look at you, deep in though.

“I could marry you, you know?” John blurted out. You turned to look at him and smile.

“Let’s do it then. Promise me, you’ll marry me, and I’ll marry you,” you smiled.

On that day, John couldn’t imagine he’d ever marry anyone else. He sat his head on your shoulder in content. The sun went down and reflected in your eyes. He couldn’t seem to look away from your beauty.

“You know what married people do?” he mumbled. “They kiss.”

“Kiss?” you said surprised.

“I mean, we’re gonna kiss someday. Why not kiss each other first?” he shrugged. You smiled.

“Sure,” you leaned in.

The kiss was a hot mess, but the two of you were happy and content in that moment.

You were thirteen and John was fourteen when you realized you loved John as well. John got back from a month long vacation in New York during the summer. He knew that was where you wanted to go when you graduated, so he snapchatted you a bunch. However, when John got home, you took notice of how much taller he was and how much deeper his voice had gotten.

“John!” you called. He had come over to your house the moment he had gotten home.

“Y/n!” John yelled, engulfing you in a hug.

“Look at you! You’re so much taller now!” you marveled.

“Yeah, puberty does that to you,” John smiled a lopsided smile. “You wanna go sit since it’s actually late and I start high school like tomorrow?”

“Sure,” you smiled. You couldn’t help but notice the way his hazel eyes sparkled in the dimming sunlight.

The path wasn’t far and the two of you plopped down to watch the sunset. You leaned over to look at him. He had his lip in between his teeth in deep thought.

“You okay?” you asked.

He turned to face you in surprise.

“Hm? Oh yeah. I’m just…nervous about tomorrow I guess,” he smiled weakly.

“Don’t be,” you said. You felt a weight in your chest before speaking softly. “Uhm…and if you should find you don’t really have time for me anymore, I understand,” you said, not letting him see your sad face.

“No,” he said. He grabbed your face in his hands to make you look at him. “I’m gonna be here. We promised to get married, remember?” you both giggled at the memory.

You both got quiet and the silence grew thick as you were both close. You saw for the first time the way his hair curled around his face. The way his freckles made a map of his face. The way his eyes flickered from your lips to your eyes.

You took a leap of faith and leaned. John was quick to close the tiny gap. In your mind, you saw fireworks as the two of you kissed.

You pulled apart breathless.

“We should head home,” John murmured. You both sat in the dark now, the beautiful sunset long gone. You nodded in agreement, but your mind was running with thoughts of John. You were in love.

That same year, you almost lost a best friend. John took you up on your offer of being too busy to see you. That year, he saw you nine times. Your parents had dinner every month, and that was the only time John was ever free to hang with you.

You tried not to let it bother you. John deserved happiness and friends, and he had that.

In the night, you couldn’t stop the thoughts from creeping in.

That summer, however, things went back to a more tense version of normal. You were nervous about high school. John was nervous about making the baseball team. There was still the tension of not talking to you for a whole year.

When you started your freshman year, John looked out for you. Your friends were in the same social group, yet there was always an unspoken division of boys and girls.

That year John had a perpetual blush on his face. His friends teased him endlessly about his crush on you, but your friends did exactly the same. Things were going perfectly, until John got a girlfriend.

You were fifteen and John was sixteen the first time you both experienced a heartbreak.

It was around this time you realized John was actually hot. He had grown up nicely. John was noticing the same things about you. You had started to fill out, and John’s friends were taking notice. John had to constantly smack the backs of his friends’ heads for making comments on your appearance right in front of you.

John’s friend Charles Lee was the one who finally asked you out. He was notorious for being a fuckboy, but you were naïve, and John was too busy with his girlfriend to notice you. You said yes, even though you didn’t want to.

You and Charles had a lovely date at the movies, until he drove off into a little clearing. You were just thinking how lovely it would be to have an older boyfriend as a freshman. He could be your summer romance, and then for sophomore year, you’d have an upper classman as a boyfriend.

However, Charles had another idea.

“So, how did you like tonight?” he asked.

“It was incredible. Thank you,” you smiled shyly.

“Well, maybe I could show you something more incredible,” Charles smirked.

“What could be more incredible than tonight?” you asked naively. Charles just chuckled before leaning over to kiss you. The kiss was nothing like with John from forever ago. It was too pushy and needy. Soon Charles pushed his tongue into your mouth and clawed at the hem of your shirt. You pushed him off of you.

“Stop. I don’t want this,” you frowned.

“Come on. Don’t be such a prude,” Charles murmured, going to kiss you again.

“No,” you pushed him back. Charles just stared at you shaking his head.

“I knew you were always Laurens’s whore,” he spat, driving you home.

Tears formed in your eyes, and when you got home, you wanted to run straight to your room. John however, was outside waiting to see how your date went, when he saw the tears in your eyes. When he asked what was wrong, you couldn’t help but spill the whole story, crying even harder. He hugged you tight, muttering things about Charles.

The next day, he found Charles laughing with your friends and slammed him against the lockers.

“John! Stop! He’s not worth it,” you said your voice cracking. John repressed the words he wanted to say. Instead, he pulled back and let a puff of angry air out. His girlfriend came by like she did every morning to whisk him away to make out. There you were, heartbroken and alone. Charles didn’t love you, but that didn’t sting as much as knowing that John didn’t love you like you wanted him to.

John’s heartbreak came the next school year, when you were a sophomore and he was a junior. It was a few days before his seventeenth birthday. The two of you were born one year and two days apart, and you were excited to show John what you had gotten him. It was a wedding ring as a joke, since you two promised to get married.

John’s newest girlfriend had other plans. For his seventeenth birthday, she was going to give him herself. A few days before John’s birthday, she did just that, after only one month of dating. That didn’t sound like the John you knew, and it only added to the long list of heartbreak. However, soon after she broke up with him. John cried.

You two sat on the hill for the first time since middle school, staring into the sunset. John’s head was in your lap, and you were lightly running your fingers through his hair.

“I thought she loved me…I thought she was gonna want to stay with me, but it turns out she didn’t know I was a virgin. She was only in it for the sex,” he couldn’t look you in the eye.

“She sucks. I’m sorry,” you said, not knowing what else to say.

“I’m done with stupid love and shit,” he grumbled. You had planned on giving him his gift tonight, but that seemed to be in poor taste now.

“Promise me something,” John said, sitting up to look you in the eyes.

“Sure,” you crinkled your brow.

“Save yourself for someone who loves you,” he said, urgently. “Don’t make my mistakes.”

“H-How do I know if they love me, though?” you stammered.

“If you can’t decide, just…save yourself for me then,” he rambled out, surprising himself.

“You?” you asked surprised.

“Yeah. If you’re ready and you don’t want it to be some stranger, I’ll be there,” he smiled. He wanted to add “because I love you” but he wasn’t that bold just yet.

“S-sure,” you stammered again blushing.

You looked down, but John tilted your head up. You looked into each other’s eyes for a moment before kissing passionately. John slowly pushing you down into the grass. You slowly began to lift your hands up into his shirt. He broke the kiss momentarily to slip your shirt off. John kissed down your neck softly, then he began to suck on one spot, nibbling on it slightly. You moaned out in response. After a minute, when you were sure, he’d left a hickey, he suddenly pulled back.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered, sadness in his eyes. “I shouldn’t have done that.”

You were too stunned to tell him it was okay. Your mind screamed at you to tell him how much you liked it, how much you liked him. Instead, you sat there. He ran home. You slipped on your shirt.

You slowly drifted apart after that night.

It didn’t take long for the hickey to fade, but it never faded from your memory. It constantly tormented the both of your minds. You wondered if it meant John loved you. John wondered if you enjoyed it and loved him.

You were seventeen and John was eighteen the time the two of you finally fucked. Although, you wanted it to be sweet and slow and nice sex. You knew immediately after that it was a casual fuck.

You and John had found your way together at a party, drunkenly reconnecting. By some grace, you actually made drunk plans for dinner the next night.

That night John couldn’t keep his eyes off the way you filled out so nicely, and you couldn’t keep your mind from wondering about how he had developed.

The sexual tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

The dinner ended with nothing substantial happening, however, when you got to the street you both lived on, both of you fully aware your parents were away on vacation together, things picked up.

“So,” John began. “Did you ever…met someone you loved?” John asked. You fully understood what he was implying.

“Never,” you whispered, leaning in close. “Although, I think I’ll take your advice from forever ago…” you trailed off.

That was all it took. John slammed his lips into yours. You trusted him, although in hindsight he was going to graduate and leave in about ten days. You should have known.

You should have known the way his hands knew just what to do was muscle memory. You should have known this was routine for him.

But the way his body pressed against yours. The closeness you felt with the man you loved. You couldn’t hardly stop yourself and justify it in that moment to your needy brain.
I was incredible, but short lived.

Lying there after, you felt vulnerable and stupid. He rolled right onto his side and began to fall asleep. You sat up, embarrassed. He couldn’t actually love you.

His arm shot up and pulled you back to the bed.

“Stay,” he mumbled. So, you stayed. This changed nothing.

The next Monday, John’s last Monday, everything was the same.

You ignored John. When he graduated, you took one forced photo with him. You didn’t see him for a while after that.

You were twenty-two and John was twenty-three the next time you saw him.

You had finally moved to New York. You had gotten into Columbia college, but had forgotten John was going to graduate school there until one fateful day.

John was rustling around with his friends when he saw you. He wasn’t sure if it was you, until Alex started calling out your name.

“You know her?” John whispered to Alex.

“Yeah, I’m the teacher’s assistant in her intro to law class,” Alex replied as you walked over.

“Hi, y/n! These are my friends, Hercules, Lafayette, and Laur-“ you cut him off

“John?” you asked hesitantly.

“Hey, y/n. Can we talk?” John asked.

“Uhm…We’ll just go now,” Alex said looking suspiciously between you and John, before raising an eyebrow at John, suggestily.

You and John started to walk.

“So…Uhm…It’s been a while,” he began. You scoffed.

“Yeah,” you said coldly.

“So why’d you ignore me after we…” he trailed off, hurt lacing his voice.

“Fucked?” you finished. “Because, you were just going to leave me anyway. You just wanted my virginity for some power trip or something.”

“You have to believe me. That’s not what I meant to do,” he said, his sad eyes betraying the anger in his voice.

“You can’t prove it. You just feel bad about it,” you yelled back.

“Yeah, well what if I told you I’ve been in love with you since I was eleven?” he yelled, his patience gone.

You instantly softened.

“Y-you have?” you asked. He nodded his head in response.

“Well, if you were to say that, I would probably tell you I’ve been in love with you since I was thirteen?” you smiled.

“I’d probably do this,” John leaned down to capture your lips in his. From somewhere in the distance, his friends cheered.

You were twenty-four and John was twenty-five when the two of you got married, and your lives began.
