Davai! (Or why Otayuri actually wins the world)

(Tweets by @Aki_the_Geek)

I’ve been thinking a lot about this comment of Kubo-sensei’s. It’s just the most adorable thing I have read in a while. I am not the biggest Otayuri fan, but only mostly because they’re seriously too young for me at this point. I do like their tandem, however, and I am enjoying the attention they are getting recently with the official photos and everything.

This comment, though, just paints such a cute picture for me: Otabek as a god of victory, like a mystical butterfly who ignores and flits past everyone else but chooses to rest on one particular mortal’s shoulder and bless him with strength and victory.

Listen, this is what is great about what Kubo-sensei said. Yuuri Katsuki has the gold rings that connect him to Viktor as his lucky charm - we know this. BUT! Yuri Plisetsky’s lucky charm, on the other hand, is Otabek Altin.

Yuri’s a great character. He is an angry teenager, but also a talented one who has big dreams and the actual skills to achieve those dreams. From the very beginning, we know this. It was even a point he has above Yuuri Katsuki.

He aims to win and does not see what others might consider obstacles. So what if it will be his first Grand Prix? He’s awesome. He won the juniors series. He can win as a senior, too.

Yuri, however, is also very immature. He is pretty poor at expressing himself and seems to shortcut through having to process most personal encounters and interactions by just being angry all the time. Affection for others embarrasses him, which is why he gets so high-strung around Viktor and Yuuri.

(I can’t really blame the kid, though. Those two just have no chill. They’re embarrassing.)

Interestingly though, Yuri seemed to calm down after Otabek came in the picture. It’s a complete 180. Yuri still had that passion, but somehow it became more tempered, less angry and more focused - so much so that the moment Otabek came in, Yuri broke a world record and then proceeded to win his first Grand Prix Final.

I am not saying that it is Otabek’s doing, like an actual god of victory. That would be ridiculous, and it’s more an expression than anything else. The timing is just pretty neat, and isn’t that how people develop lucky charms in the first place? You happen to have them right at the moment of a great win. It is also not as if Otabek was completely useless. He did provide a friend to Yuri, who thus far had been going on without someone he can actually call a friend. Everyone around him were either older than him, a competitor, a mentor or a teacher. I think Otabek calmed Yuri down by reminding him that he can just be himself… well, a cool version of himself anyway. Yuri actually sort of acted his age with Otabek around. For instance, this?

I thought Yuri was kind of cool-guy-posing here - you know, acting chill, even looks kind of smug. Lol, this reminded me so much of my younger brother when he was about Yuri’s age. He was such a useless brat at home and was pissed off at everything and nothing 99% of the time, but the moment his friends came over or one of them called him on the phone, he sort of became this cool version of himself - wittier, sharper, less fidgety. Lmao, his voice even became deeper. Smh at these boys…

What I also love about Otabek’s character is that he reminds us of Yuri’s name. Names are a big deal, okay, and I thought that Yuri being Yurio was kind of like him being a secondary character to Yuuri Katsuki - Yuuri #2, if you will. Ever since episode 2, Yuri is Yurio, and for every episode hence, he is Yurio. It was actually a bit of a shock to me when Otabek yelled this out in episode 11:

I was literally, “Oh yeah, that’s Yurio’s name.” I know Yakov and Lilia call Yurio by his name, but somehow it was when Otabek was calling him by this did Yurio become Yuri to me again. My theory is that it is Otabek’s manner, this I-know-you-call-him-Yurio-and-I-don’t-care-because-his-name-is-Yuri attitude he has going, that is somehow more convincing than anyone else. It is as if no one else matters in his world than Yuri Plisetsky. It is ridiculous to call him by anything other than his name because to Otabek, Yuri is Yuri #1. He probably calls Yuuri “the other Yuri”, “the Japanese Yuri” or just plain “Katsuki”.

So yeah, Otabek enters Yuri’s life and now Yuri has that source of affirmation that is outside family, who is a peer and even a close contemporary. He is no longer fighting alone. Yuri’s a strong guy, but he is still a kid, and at that age people can be quite vulnerable. No 15-year-old is so self-sufficient and self-confident that they can stand on their own at all times - at least not to my knowledge. That is why I love this friendship and why I love that Otabek came along. I think his coming triggered something that Yuri has long been building throughout the series but has yet to stabilize - his strength, his growth, his maturity as a skater as well as a person.

And actually, Yuri did win in the end. I think the series did not celebrate Yuri’s win enough and admittedly, even I was on such a high during those last weeks of the show that I could not be happy for him all that much. Episode 11? I couldn’t get over Yuri’s world record; I did not want to see Viktor dethroned. By episode 12, I still couldn’t look Yuri in the face. I was bitter about his world record and I was bitter about Yuuri Katsuki not winning the Grand Prix.

BUT, it’s time to face it: Yuri Plisetsky is amazing. He won the GPF on his senior debut. He beat a world record. His coach is obviously grooming him to be the next Viktor Nikiforov, and actually, the series has been hinting at it before hitting us on the face with it in episode 11 - Yuuri Katsuki is not the next Viktor Nikiforov, but Yuri Plisetsky is. What is more amazing is that he might even surpass Viktor, especially with Yuuri Katsuki as his main rival. Viktor never really had that one rival to push him up further than he thinks he can. We are told that his wins had wide margins from his other competitors. Viktor only had himself to beat each and every time. Yuri, on the other hand, won by a hair’s width and he knows it. He is even more driven now. He will push himself harder than Viktor ever had pushed himself, and that just might tip the scale a little bit more to future Yuri’s favor.

As for Otabek? Nah, he actually does not need to do anything. He is a lucky charm; he just needs to exist. With him around, Yuri is stable, and that’s all that this talented monster skater needs really.

Lol, look at this guy just watching his favorite so proudly:

“I’m not really needed here, but fuck if I’m not staying put to watch and join the cheering.”

Otayuri actually has a lot more going for them, future-wise. They are young, they are talented, and where Viktor and Yuuri are still struggling and see-sawing between victories and losses, Otayuri actually kept a steady climb. We already know and mentioned Yuri’s wins, but Otabek was also actually that steady character from the very beginning who skated well without question and was even the first to qualify for the GPF.

So, yes. In case you are asking, Otayuri is, in fact, the real power couple of the show.

Lmao, TL;DR - Otayuri just trumped Viktuuri and ultimately even stole their gold. The secondary OTP lowkey just beat the main OTP and I, albeit a hardcore Viktuuri shipper and just an Otayuri bystander at best, still find that really hilarious.

You see these boys?

These boys used to be no one. No one but kids leaving their homes to go to the Big city in hope of achieving their dreams.

Dating Zach Dempsey would include...
  • He doesn’t even know when you caught his attention, he just found himself admiring you from afar with curious eyes.
  • He’d get extremely nervous if one of his friends mentiones how much attention he pays to you.

‘‘What, the girl from my bio class? Nah man, I don’t even know her name.’‘

  • He tried to get in contact with you through common friends.
  • And doing small things such as going to the same parties as you, going to see the same movie releases, etc.
  • Until one day he’d just man up ask asked you to be his partner for a bio project.
  • You meet continuously for several weeks at Monet’s with the same excuse.

‘‘Yeah, the bio project is so damn long, we’ll have to meet again tomorrow I guess.’‘

  • You two stay close and hang out sometimes after the project is done ‘cause you always have fun around him.
  • And then he FINALLY ASKS YOU OUT after going to one of his basketball games.
  • He was so damn happy you were there, cheering for him.
  • Until he saw Marcus being a bit too friendly with you, making you laugh and touching your back with his hand.
  • So the moment he stepped out of the locker room, he want up to you and casually invited you to a milkshake.
  • And his hands would be so sweaty the moment he tells you how amazing you are to him and all those fluffy things (idk ive never had a cute bf okay).
  • And your smile would be so big when he asks you to be his girl ‘cause how could you not accept!
  • He’d probably hold your hand for the rest of the night.
  • I feel the relationship would be pretty relaxed and positive.
  • You two barely fight as you prefer to talk things calmly, and in very rare ocasions you lose patience and get to scream at each other.
  • If that happens you give each other space to think clearly about the situation, which doesn’t last too long because you both end up apologizing.
  • He’s not the jealous type since he fully trusts you because he knows that you can take care of yourself and that you only love him.
  • Still, he’s really protective of you by instinct.
  • He’d love doing sall things for you like giving you rides to school or helping you with homework (specially if you’re bad at bio, so that way he has an excuse to take you on study dates).
  • He’d want you to wear his letterman jacket so you can be goals cause that’s what couples do at romantic movies.

‘‘Zach, your clothes look huge on me and make me look like a cow.’‘ (but you aways wear them cause they smell like him)

  • He’s not big on PDA in public, he’ll just hold your hand or put it around your waist, so you don’t feel too pressured by him at any moment.
  • When you’re alone he’s all for cuddling and eskimo kisses and just being as close to each other as possible because it comforts him a lot.
  • He’d make sure to compliment you everyday cause he really wants you to love yourself as much as he does.
  • He thinks you’re perfect no matter if you’re tall or short, curvy or slim, thin or chubby…
  • To him it’s really important that his family likes you, and he’s extremely happy when they end up loving you.
  • His ass would be damn scared of his mum intimidating you.
  • His sister becomes really close to you as she sees you as a role model.
  • Babbysitting dates where you and Zach take his sister to fun places would be so frequent.
  • He’d try to teach you how to play basketball, he’ll be so damn proud if you’re good at it - he’ll even get you a personalised shirt with your name on the back.
  • When none of you wants to go out you just stay in playing videogames.
  • Sometimes he lets you win cause he thinks it’s so damn cute when you get all excited.
  • He’d be so supportive if you had a dream or a goal and try to help you achieve it, while he hopes you do the same for him (do it this bby deserves the love)
  • In general you take care of each other and always make sure to be there for everything.
Why Phichit is my Favorite Character

In honor of reaching 500 followers, I decided it was about time I made a post that shows that this blog is actually what it sounds like. This is going to be a long ride full of incoherent rambling, so hold on tight. Yes I am listening to Shall We Skate and Terra Incognita on repeat while writing this

Lets start from the beginning. The first time we see Phichit, we see him for only a few seconds, where he only says one line of dialogue, ¨Yuuri!¨, which was preceded by a giggle. We don’t see him again for the rest of the episode, or the next. Or the next. There is nothing that you can glean from this character at first glance.

But that was the moment I fell in love with the character that is Phichit Chulanont.

See, It wasn’t his first official appearance that made me fall in love with him. The reason I liked this character so much was because I understood he was close to Yuuri and cared about him. Now, for those of you who don’t know, I became invested in Yuri!!! on ICE because of Yuuri and the premise + figure skating. Not victuuri, although that was wonderful because!!! Representation!!! I was just glad there was a main character I, and many others, could deeply relate to. But this post isn’t about Yuuri. Its about Phichit. And because I could see he cared for Yuuri, I got interested.

So I watched the scene again to figure out what I could. And here is what I was able to come up with.

He lives in Thailand, but has just arrived home after being somewhere else, or is leaving. More likely the former. He is cheerful, and invested somewhat in social media. He is close friends with Yuuri, or at least acquainted, and is likely a figure skater.

I looked him up after that, and my love only grew.

Also, we had this picture in the ending

God I love him

The next time we see Phichit, we see him in a video call with Yuuri in episode 4. His first appearances are all very Yuuri-centered.

But boy did this scene deliver a BIG LOAD of information.

I had been right about quite a few things from my first guesses about Phichit. He just arrived back in Thailand and likes social media, as seen by the literal touchscreen gloves and multiple IG posts. He is also very close with Yuuri. VERY CLOSE. I damn near cried over how comfortable and happy Yuuri became when he was talking with Phichit. And how comfortable PHICHIT looked when he was talking to Yuuri.

They had clearly been friends for a long time, Yuuri even knew phrases in Phichits native language, and I have no doubts that Phichit knows phrases in Japanese.

This sort of familiarity and calm interaction is something we only really see Yuuri take part in when he is with his family, +the Nishigori’s, at least at the beginning of the series.

When Yuuri starts talking about composer girl, Phichit is able to immediately understand what Yuuri needs without even having to hear Yuuri say it. That is the kind of friendship some can only dream of.

We already know Phichit is a wonderful, reliable friend from less than a minute of interaction. Less than a minute. I counted. I have seen dozens of shows where it takes multiple WHOLE EPISODES to understand the relationship between two characters, but with Yuri on Ice it takes less than a minute. This is a result of good writing and good, rounded characters.

Which leads to my next topic of discussion.

Phichit is such a well-rounded character holy shit

There are no lingering doubts about Phichit’s character. There isn’t a scene where you are left wondering, “Why did Phichit do this” or “What is Phichit thinking” because we know, at least in my case. As long as you understand Phichit as a character you can understand the motivations behind his actions.

Episode 6 is a beautiful Phichitfest and I was having a good ol’ time.

Now, for reference, episode 6 is when I really got into Yuri on Ice as a show. Characters I didn’t really like were starting to have more appeal, like Viktor, and characters I loved got better, somehow.

Bonus points for fashion goddamn

HE CALLS CELESTINO CIAO CIAO. CIAO CIAO. HE IS SO PRECIOUS

His constant need to document everything on social media is also much appreciated.

also this

Captain of the #victuuri ship honestly same Phichit

So,as I’m watching this episode I’m just waiting and thinking

when do i get to see Phichit skate?? when??

I find out Phichit skates first and Im !!!!

then he skates.

AND BOY DOES HE EVER FUCKING SKATE

Phichit steps out onto that rink in his princely attire and I am gone then and there.

Shall We Skate? is such a masterpiece and I LOVE IT

You can say what you want about Phichit, but if you cant see how much Phichit adores skating through his performance than you clearly haven’t watched the series.

I have a record of crying every time I watch Phichit skate when I watched the episodes he was in for the first time. Every time. This one is no exception.

The fact that the audience is shown to get very caught up in Phichit’s performance made me so happy? These people, who are all there to support the more popular skaters, are getting caught up in the dance of a skater who hadn’t even been on their radar.

Ok.

Terra Incognita.

me too ciao ciao

This performance showed how much you can glean from a person while watching them skate. And yes. I cried.

Just.

His motivation for skating is so fucking clear.

He wants to make his country proud.

And he does.

The audience is rooting for Phichit, he gets the crowd hyped up and he delivers.

He worked his ass off for this performance and it pays off

He nails all of his components and scores higher than he ever has

He is so confident that hes won and he WINS

HE FUCKING WINS

HE BEATS YUURI AND CHRIS AND LEO ALL OF WHOM WERE MAJOR CONTENDERS FOR THE GRAND PRIX

HE WINS HIS FIRST GOLD MEDAL

AND AFTER THE ROSTELECOM CUP BECOMES THE FIRST THAI SKATER TO ADVANCE TO THE GRAND PRIX FINAL

HE??? IS SO GOOD

And that’s why it made me so mad when he lost the Grand Prix Final.

Sixth. Place.

I love the other skaters. I really do. But JJ did not deserve a bronze medal. He was way over scored and should have gotten last place. Phichit scored about as high as the previous years third place winner. JJ.

His Shall We Skate made me hella emotional and sob along with him at the end. He is SUCH A GOOD SKATER.

That is what makes a performer.

Phichit entertains the audience. He holds their attention and gets them hyped up and on the edge of their seats.

He has fun while he skates and just genuinely loves his sport.

I am going to quote something I said when I first made this blog.

“Just by qualifying for the Grand Prix Finals, Phichit won. He may not have won a medal, but he achieved not only one of his dreams, skating “Shall We Skate” in a major competition, but also made history by becoming the first Thai skater to compete in the Grand Prix Finals. WE should all be extremely proud of him, and hopefully watch him continue to made his dreams reality in the next season!”

I stand by this statement fully and wholeheartedly. Yes, Phichit deserved to be placed higher, and yes, it was completely unfair. But lets be proud of what he did achieve, and appreciate him for the amazing character he is.

tldr; Phichit is a wonderful character and I love him. Thanks for 500 followers!

VICTIMS OF FREE-MIXING
Umm Muhammad, a mature woman over the age of 40, tells her story.

I lived a life of modest means with my husband. There was never any closeness and harmony, and my husband did not have the kind of strong personality that a woman would hope for, but his good nature made me overlook the fact that I was the one who was responsible for most of the decision making in the family.

My husband often used to mention the name of his friend and business partner, and he would talk about him in my presence, and I often used to meet with him in his office which was originally part of our apartment. This went on for many years, until circumstances led to us exchanging visits with this person and his family. These family visits were repeated and because of his close friendship with my husband, we did not notice how the number of visits increased and how many hours a single visit would last. He often used to come on his own to sit with us, me and my husband, for long visits. My husband’s trust in him knew no bounds, and as days passed I got to know this person very well, and saw how wonderful and decent he was. I began to feel a strong attraction towards this man, and at the same time I began to sense that the feeling was mutual.

Things took a strange turn after that, when I realized that this man was the kind of person I had always dreamed about. Why had he come along now, after all these years? The more this man’s status increased in my eyes, the more my husband’s status diminished. It was as if I had needed to see the beauty of his character in order to discover how ugly my husband’s character was.

The matter between this person and myself did not go beyond these persistent thoughts which were occupying my mind night and day. Neither he nor I ever voiced what we felt in our hearts… until today. Yet despite that my life is over and my husband is little more than a weak man with no self-esteem. I hate him and I do not know how all this hatred towards him started to boil over. I wonder how I put up with him all these years, bearing all these burdens by myself, facing life’s problems on my own.

Things got so bad that I asked him for a divorce, and he divorced me at my request. After that he became a broken man. Even worse than that is that after my marriage was wrecked and my children and husband were devastated, problems arose in this man’s family. His wife, with her feminine intuition, realized what had been going on in his heart of hearts, and his life became hell. She was overwhelmed with jealousy to the extent that one night she left her house at 2 a.m. and came to attack my house, screaming, weeping and hurling accusations. His marriage was also about to collapse.

I admit that the lovely gatherings which we used to enjoy gave us the opportunity to get to know one another at a time that was not appropriate at this stage in our lives.

His marriage has been wrecked and so has mine. I have lost everything, and now I know that my circumstances and his will not permit us to take any positive step towards coming together. Now I am more miserable than I have ever been, and I am looking for illusionary happiness and lost hopes.

Tit-for-tat

Umm Ahmad tells us:

My husband had a group of married friends, and because of our close friendship with them, we used to get together with them once a week in one of our houses, to enjoy an evening of chat.

Deep down in my heart I was never really comfortable with the atmosphere in which we would have dinner, sweets, snacks and drinks of juice accompanied by waves of laughter because of the jokes and chit-chats that often went beyond the bounds of good manners.

In the name of friendship, the barriers were lifted and every now and then one would hear suppressed laughter between a woman and the husband of another woman. The jokes were too much, dealing – with no sense of shyness –with sensitive topics such as sex and women’s private matters. This was usual and was even accepted and regarded as desirable.

Although I indulged in these things along with them, my conscience made me feel guilty. Then the day came when it became quite clear just how ugly and filthy this atmosphere was.

The telephone rang, and I heard the voice of one of the friends in this group. I said hello to him and apologized that my husband was not home. He replied that he knew that, and that he was calling to speak to me! After he suggested starting a relationship with me, I got very angry and spoke harshly to him and cursed him. All he could do was laugh and say, “Don’t try and show these good manners to me; go and check on your husband’s good manners and see what he is doing…” I was devastated by what he said, but I pulled myself together and said to myself, this person is only trying to cause the break up of your marriage. But he succeeded in planting the seeds of doubt concerning my husband.

Shortly after that, the major disaster struck. I discovered that my husband was cheating on me with another woman. It was the matter of life or death as far as I was concerned. I found my husband out and I confronted him, saying: “You are not the only one who can have a relationship. I have received a similar proposition.” And I told him all about his friend. He was stunned and absolutely shocked. (I said:) “If you want me to respond in kind to your relationship with that woman, then this is for that, tit-for-tat.” This was a huge slap in the face for him. He knew that I did not intend to do that in reality, but he realized the great disaster that had befallen our lives and the immoral atmosphere in which we were living. I suffered a great deal until my husband finally left that loose woman with whom he was having a relationship, as he admitted to me. Yes, he left her and came back to his family and children, but how can I ever feel the same towards him as I used to? Who will restore respect for him in my heart? This huge wound in my heart is still bleeding out of regret and rage at that filthy atmosphere; it still bears testimony to the fact that what they call innocent get-togethers are in reality anything but innocent. My heart still begs for mercy from the Lord of Glory.

Intelligence can also be a temptation (fitnah)

‘Abd al-Fattaah says:

I work as the head of department in one of the big companies. For a long time I admired one of my female colleagues, not for her beauty, but for her serious attitude towards her work, her intelligence and her excellent achievements – in addition to the fact that she was a decent and modest person who focused only on her work. This admiration turned into attachment, and I am a married man who fears Allaah and never misses any obligatory prayer. I expressed my feelings to her and she rebuffed me. She is married and has children as well. She sees no reason why I should have any kind of relationship with her, whether it be friendship, as work colleagues or based on admiration… etc. Evil thoughts come to me sometimes, and deep down I wish that her husband would divorce her so that I could get her.

I started to put pressure on her at work and put her down in front of my bosses. Perhaps this was a form of revenge on my part, but she accepted it with good manners and did not complain or comment. She works and works; her performance speaks of her quality, and she knows this well. The more she resisted me, the stronger my infatuation grew.

I am not a person who is easily tempted by women, because I fear Allaah and I do not overstep the mark with them and go beyond what is required by my work. But this woman attracted me. What is the solution?… I do not know.

Baby ducks know how to swim

N.A.A., a nineteen-year-old girl, tells us:

At that time I was a little girl. My innocent eyes watched those evening get-togethers when family friends would meet in the house. What I remember is that I could only see one man, who was my father. I watched him as he moved about the room, how his glances would devour the women present, looking at their thighs and chests, admiring this one’s eyes, that one’s hair, the other’s hips. My poor mother had no choice but to take care of these get-togethers. She was a very simple lady.

Among the women present there was one woman who would deliberately try to attract my father’s attention, sometimes by coming close to him, and sometimes by making enticing movements. I would watch this with concern, whilst my mother was busy in the kitchen for the sake of her guests.

These gatherings stopped suddenly and I tried, young as I was, to understand and make sense of what had happened, but I could not.

What I remember was that my mother collapsed completely at that time, and she could not stand to hear my father’s name mentioned in the house. I used to hear mysterious words whispered by the adults around me: “Betrayal… bedroom… she saw them with her own eyes… despicable woman… in a very shameful position…” etc. These were the key words which only the adults could understand.

I grew up and came to understand, and I bore a grudge against all men. All of them were treacherous. My mother was a broken woman and accused every woman who came to us of being a man-snatcher who wanted to make my father fall into her trap. My father hasn’t changed. He is still practising his favourite hobby of chasing women, but now he does it outside the home. Now I am nineteen years old and I know lots of young men. I feel great pleasure in taking revenge on them, because every one of them is an exact copy of my father. I tempt them and entice them, without letting them get anywhere near me. They follow me in gatherings and in the marketplaces because of my movements and deliberate gestures. Sometimes my phone never stops ringing and I feel proud of what I do to avenge the sex of Hawwa’ and my mother. But sometimes I feel so miserable and such a failure that it almost chokes me. My life is shadowed by a huge dark cloud, and its name is my father.

Before it is too late

S.N.A. tells of her experience:

I never imagined that my work circumstances would force me to be in contact with the opposite sex (men), but this in fact is what happened…

In the beginning, I used to cover and screen myself from men by wearing niqaab (face-veil), but some of the sisters advised me that this dress was attracting more attention to my presence, and it would be better for me to take off the niqaab, especially since my eyes were somewhat attractive. So I removed the cover from my face, thinking that this was better. But by continuing to mix with my colleagues, I discovered that I was the odd one out because of my antisocial attitude and my insistence on not joining in the conversation and chatting with others. Everyone was wary of this “lone-wolf” woman (as they saw me), and this is what was stated clearly by one person who affirmed that he would not want to deal with such a snooty and stand-offish character. But I knew that I was the opposite, in fact, and I decided that I would not oppress myself and put myself in a difficult position with my colleagues. So I started to join in their chats and exchanges of anecdotes, and they all discovered that I could speak eloquently and persuasively, and that I could influence others. I could also speak in a manner that was determined yet at the same time was attractive to some of my colleagues. It was not long before I noticed some changes in the expression of my direct supervisor; with some embarrassment, he was enjoying the way I spoke and moved, and he would deliberately bring up topics in the conversation where I would see that hateful look in his eyes. I do not deny the fact that I started to entertain some thoughts about this man. I found it astonishing that a man could fall so easily into the trap of a woman who was religiously committed, so how must it be in the case of women who adorn themselves and invite men to commit immoral actions? In fact, I did not think of him in any way which went beyond the bounds of sharee’ah, but he did occupy a space in my thoughts for quite some time. But soon my self-respect made me reject the idea of being a source of enjoyment for this man in any way, shape or form, even if it was only psychological in nature, and I stopped getting involved in any kind of work that would force me to sit alone with him. In the end, I reached the following conclusions:

1- 1) Attraction between the sexes can occur in any circumstances, no matter how much men and women may deny that. The attraction may start within the bounds of sharee’ah and end up going beyond those bounds.

2) Even if a person protects himself (by marriage), he is not safe from the snares of the Shaytaan.

3) Even though a person may be able to guarantee himself and he works with the opposite sex within reasonable limits, he cannot guarantee the feelings of the other party.

4) Finally, there is nothing good in mixing and it does not bear fruit as they claim. On the contrary, it corrupts sound thinking.

Everyone has something they call home. This thing could be a place, person, object, animal, even a smell. Of course, it’s different for everyone ─ most say that “Home” was the house they shared with their parents currently or during their childhood. Some would say home is the feeling of happiness, caused by being in their birth town, or the block they grew up on.

You, however, considered it to be a culmination of things. Alongside the stereotypical place, you found comfort in the smell of New York; specifically, a street in The Bronx that you grew up on in the quiet side of the big place, where couples walked the streets, runners smiled and laughed at the dogs they were jogging with; where families could be out with a mild fear of being mugged by some druggie or poor guy in need of some money; where happiness seemed to be one of the most prominent emotions and one of the only words to describe the place and your feelings upon walking around it.

Your favorite place, as dumb as it sounds, was the little coffee shop at the end of the street. The workers were always changing there, seeing as they were all teenagers wanting more money or just starting college and need a way to pay for their loans because their parents sure-as-hell weren’t doing it alone. At one point, that had been you, when you still went to community college.

You remembered loving working there, as you always had light-hearted conversations with the customers and relationships with the regulars. But once you got your first two years of college done, you headed off to a big university across the country, staying there for about four years to get your masters. Then, you came back home with high hopes of achieving something great, something that made an impact, no matter how big.

Your dream had always been to be involved in dancing or music, specifically for Broadway. And as crazy and farout as it sounds, you knew you could make it there someday ─ someday.

The distinct smell of coffee beans and oven pastries filled your senses as you walked into the coffee shop you adored so much. People were too caught up in their own conversations to acknowledge your entrance, which was normal. A fuzzy feeling filled you when you took a deep breath and let your senses be bombarded by the homey smell. The sounds of clinking plates and brewing coffee and buzzing of light conversations about work, coffee, the need to finish a paper and get some sleep filled your ears, as well.

What you noticed out of all of that, though, was the echoing, familiar voice of someone you knew all-too-well. The voice was deep but soft, forming words that were so beautifully put together, yet only said because they worked with everything else he was singing about. This one was about working two jobs, brewing coffee, and still enjoying the life he was give. The optimism he had in his words was what seemed to keep the rest of coworkers going, smiling and giving him beats or backup vocals.

“I don’t understand you,” Kihyun sighed in exasperation.

You frown and take a sip of your coffee. “What do you mean?”

“You make such big leaps in your relationship and still you and Wonho aren’t together.”

It’s your turn to sigh. You set down your coffee and scowl at your friend. He only shrugs in response.

“Listen you, I’m fine where we are.”

Kihyun coughs out a laugh and you glare at him. He holds his hands out in surrender before he takes a gulp of his own coffee and suddenly lifts a hand to wave. You turn and catch Shownu and Minhyuk entering the café. They smile when they see the two of you and plop down in chairs at your table.

Shownu wraps an arm around your shoulders and gives you a side hug. “How are you Y/N?”

You smile. “I’m good, and you?”

“I’m…busy,” he chuckles pulling away.

With your smile breaking into a wide grin you gently punch his shoulder. “I bet you are Mr. Choreographer. “

He blushes shyly and then turns to Minhyuk to ask what he wants to drink. As soon as Shownu stands up from his chair, Minhyuk takes it and leans his elbow on to the table to look at you with a seemingly innocent smile on his face. You cluck your tongue and look accusingly at Kihyun.

“「I personally don’t like being an adult. Being an adult comes at a price. You are now faced with a reality which kind of pressures you to chase after stability and security so they become your new dream. That’s why I don’t consider myself or rather don’t want to consider myself as an adult. Sure, my age will define as an adult but I want to be a teenage-adult who is still chasing after his dream. I wish you can be like that too. Stay innocent, be naive. But still dream big. Dream big to the point that it is beyond your ability and endeavour to achieve it. So dream big and don’t lose your innocence.」”
—  SUGA (Min Yoongi, BTS)
“If I’m the sun, you’re the moon, because when I rise, you go down.”
—  Suga (BTS Cypher Pt. 2: Triptych)
“Stay innocent, be naive. But still dream big. Dream big to the point that it is beyond your ability and endeavour to achieve it. So dream big and don’t lose your innocence.”

“Even though this moment seems like it will be forever, when the sunsetting night comes again, the destroying reality is back. When I come back to my senses, I turn into a scared fool, and when I see myself like that, I keep getting scared. The sense of reality that takes over…
Why am I still here as others are running forth ?
Breathe or dream, I begin to row the boat again, matching the speed of my heart beats. I get caught in the superficial standards of others and as I live pretending I don’t know about it, my life’s sun sets like this coat.
What am I doing with my life.”
“We used to jump wanting to be heroes,
but now we’ve grown and time has passed.
I’m becoming and adult but I wanna rewind
to the times when the 10-year-old boy sang the theme song to his favorite superhero comic.
I wanna go back, so I close my eyes and scream
But nothing changes, reality it’s the same.”

The following morning was filled with sad goodbyes from your family members. Yoongi had dropped the bomb after breakfast and you thought Jin and Taehyung were going to cry on the spot. Honestly, you also couldn’t shake off the feeling of dread inside you, not since you received the text from the Chairman last night. But seeing Yoongi’s bright smile and how excitedly he announced the end of his punishment, you figured he was happy about returning to his fancy apartment and his comfortable bed. I mean, who wouldn’t? And it’s not like you wanted him to stay at the farm forever either.

You watched your mother fuss over him before you two made your way to the bus with a gentle smile.

"Make sure you eat well. Pack a big lunch. Eat a hefty breakfast. And if you ever want me to pack you a lunch, just give Y/N a heads up. And if you want to come visit on weekends, you’re more than welcome to. I’m sure the boys and the girls would love it.“

"Thank you mom.” Yoongi grinned and let her give him a tight hug and a few kisses.

Jin and Tae squeezed the life out of him and you had to pry Yoongi out of their grasps in order to make it to the bus stop on time.

"I’ll e-mail you hyung!“ Tae bellowed as Yoongi waved and chuckled.

"I’ll write you letters and have Y/N deliver them to you!” Jin shouted.

"Oh please don’t make me do that.“ You groaned.

Yoongi laughed and ruffled your head. "I wouldn’t mind that at all.”

You huffed, trying not to look flustered at his subtle action. The effects from yesterday still weren’t worn out after all.

Soon enough, you two fell into a comfortable silence as you trudged towards the bus stop. It was just going to be you two heading to work today. Leo stayed behind in order to pack everything they had brought with them. Then he would head to Yoongi’s apartment to make sure the building was ready for his return.

You realized that this was the last time you were going to have a companion on this stroll and on the agonizingly long trip to and from work. You frowned at the thought.

As usual, you two climbed onto the bus and claimed the back row. Yoongi smiled as he stared out the window.

"I’m actually going to miss this view.“

"Well, my mom said you’re welcome to come whenever.”

"Will you be okay with that?“

           You blinked. "Why not?”

He snorted. “Have you forgotten I’m your boss?”

           You blushed. Right.

"Oh well…I mean…you do whatever you want anyway…“ You tried to find an excuse.

He chuckled. "You’re right. I just didn’t want to be ‘inappropriate’ by your standards and regulations.”

           You smiled gently.

"Oh. Here.“ Yoongi rummaged through his bag and handed you his Ipod.

You raised an eyebrow questioningly. He chuckled and grabbed your hand, placing the device into your palm.

"You asked me yesterday what it was that I was interested in.” he closed your fingers over it. “And it was actually you that pointed it out to me a few weeks ago. I thought it was a normal interest that everyone had, but when I thought about it, I’ve always turned to music my entire life. It’s been the most consistent and comforting thing for me.”

You glanced up at him, surprised. You didn’t think he was mulling over what you had said candidly and spontaneously last night, so it shocked you to hear that he had been thinking about it deeply. When you looked into his eyes, you recognized his serious gaze, but there was also a sprinkle of worry laced into it as if he was nervous about your reaction to his answer. You felt the corners of your mouth turn up and you looked down at the IPod.

"So what would you like to do Mr. Min?“ You asked lightly.

He grinned. "I would like to find a way to run a business related to music. I don’t know exactly what kind yet, but I think I’d like to take my time figuring it out.”

You giggled and nodded. “I’ll look forward to it then.”

"It’s yours.“ Yoongi gestured to the IPod. "I spent last night organizing my music and making you playlists for you and your family.”

           "What?“ You stared at him.

"I think it’d be more fun doing farm work with a bit of music.” Yoongi smiled. “And I think your bus ride would be more enjoyable too, because I’m not going to be here to entertain you.”

He grabbed the IPod and turned it on. “I made you a 'Work Work’ playlist when you’re doing last minute documents or something, a 'Farm Girl’ playlist, '3rd Sunday Parties’ playlist, and when you’re having a hard time falling asleep there’s a 'Lullaby’ list too. Oh and there’s a 'Strolling’ playlist when you’re walking to the bus stop or to work…”

You tuned out the last few playlists he was explaining because you were busy studying his facial expressions. He was so close to you and he was talking so animatedly that it filled you with awe. So this is what he looked like when he was passionate about something. You admitted that you were going to miss having him around for some reason. It was nice to have someone that you could talk to about work and the farm life, someone to travel with, and someone that got along easily with your vivacious family members.

"And I told Leo to leave the charger at the farm. I’m sure you know how to use that.“ Yoongi glanced over at you and found you looking at him intently, with softness in your eyes. He searched for what type of emotion you were displaying, but he couldn’t quite pinpoint it. Unlike other times though, you weren’t shying away from his eye contact and he felt himself leaning closer to you. As if realizing what you were doing, your eyes widened and you tensed up. He grinned, his face mere centimeters away from yours.

"Finally realized how handsome I am?” he cheekily jeered.

You rolled your eyes and scoffed. “I was just amazed. I didn’t you’d actually be interested in anything.”

Yoongi cackled. “I’m amazing, aren’t I? A man of many talents and surprises. A genius.”

You groaned and shook your head.

"Do you like it though?“ he asked nervously.

You blushed and nodded. "Yeah, I love it. Thank you, Mr. Min. It’s so thoughtful.”

He beamed, and you wondered if his smile had always been so dazzling.

After the Exorcism

Andrew explores his fears and comes to the realization that he fears Neil and the unknown aspects of everything that he represents. (ao3)

Andrew Minyard was afraid.

It wasn’t that fear was new to him. Actually, at this point, fear was more like second nature. A gut reaction to situations that didn’t require it. Andrew knew fear like the back of his hand. The worst of his fears stuck around and echoed throughout his head like the cloying scent of sweat and cheap cologne. He could be alone and the scent would catch his attention and send his heart skittering into overdrive. It was partly why he began smoking. To drive out the scent that his nightmares carried.

The memory of his fear was chained to him forever by heavy iron manacles. Impossible to forget but it was possible to build up tolerance, and your own slight form of resistance. If fear was his chains, his strength was the first callus he ever earned lifting weights. The scent from his nightmares no longer sent him into a freezing panic, but it did make him grit his teeth until his jaw popped and his fingers reach desperately for knives. Andrew might be saddled with his chains for now, but when the jailers came, Andrew was going to fuck them up. He used his fear as a whetstone to hone himself into a weapon.

So, while Andrew was accustomed to his fear, it was rare for it to present itself so openly. Triggers was the word Betsy had used. Horseshit was the word Andrew reached for as his fear enveloped his heart in a crushing fist. Fear had nimble fingers that insinuated themselves deep in his chest. Andrew’s fear was the heart-stopping moment before you realized where you were and who you were.

Andrew Doe.

Andrew Gibbons.

Andrew Spear.

Andrew Minyard.

Therapists over the years insisted to Andrew that he could chose who he was and what that meant to him. He brushed it off as the bullshit any and all therapists tried to pull. They all insisted that self-care was of the utmost importance, yet put words in his mouth and didn’t let him speak.

They didn’t let him speak.

Andrew Doe was frail limbs and sunken eyes and he only ever spoke at a whisper. Andrew Gibbons never technically existed. He was a dream that was created in the dark recesses of his mind. He was a hope. Andrew Gibbons was a hungry mouth that was unfortunately unable to be fed. He was Andrew Doe again. When the tantalizing offer of Andrew Spear presented itself, Andrew was terrified to hope. The dream was so close, but was still too far too far. Juvie was where Andrew decided that all he needed to be was Andrew. Nothing else mattered because nothing else stayed. When Minyard was thrust at him it came wildly and too fast for his mind to keep up. Suddenly, a twin brother and a cousin were thrust into his hands. Minyard came out of his mouth bulky and awkward, but when Andrew, who was only Andrew, found people who wanted him he decided he was done.

He was done casting off names. He was done trading up shit families that could never really want him. It was his turn to take, to take, to take.

The family that wanted Andrew suffered in the same ways that Andrew Doe, Andrew Gibbons, and Andrew Spear had suffered. Not in precisely the same way, but in the sense that fear had them in a stranglehold and wouldn’t let go. Andrew knew what it meant to be that. Andrew, who was only Andrew, decided that Andrew Minyard meant being a weapon born from fear. A weapon to protect his family by whatever means necessary.

Tilda was a hindrance to fully protecting Aaron, a brother who could not decide if he wanted Andrew or not. Those nameless men in the alley were a nuisance that got in between Andrew and Nicky, a cousin who was starved of love but never ran out of love to give. Matt could have been a threat, but that threat was contained and Andrew was content to ignore his existence. Luther would be dealt with in a manner which Andrew thought acceptable, and Riko would die if he ever got close enough to breathe the same air as Kevin. None of this was a concern to Andrew, it was just matters which required being dealt with.

No, Andrew, who was now Andrew Minyard, wasn’t afraid for his family. Andrew Minyard was afraid for himself.

Andrew Minyard was standing toe-to-toe, chest-to-chest, with a walking lie, staring into flat blue eyes, ringed in green. There was a freckle in the left eye, something that at least couldn’t be hidden by color contacts—some truth to a lie. Andrew stood there, gripping Neil Josten’s jaw, and that fear that was so familiar ran a sinuous trail down his spine.

People were comically easy to unravel and piece back together. It was absolutely no trouble to learn the motives and drives that every individual person was working with. As much as people like to claim to be unique, humanity is remarkably similar. Each person has their own intricacies, of course, but people are goal oriented and are trained by society to achieve those goals in certain ways. Andrew was ridiculously adept at understanding people, yet he stood there staring at a man who looked stricken and naked without color contacts without a concrete idea in mine. Oh sure, he had theories, but the more he got to know Neil Josten, the more implausible they all seemed.

Fear of the unknown was a heady cocktail. It didn’t have a logical solution the same way that other fears did. Fear of heights? Stay on the ground. Fear of snakes? Avoid cool, damp places where they might be hiding. Fear of big dogs? Learn what you can about dogs and see if you can master it, and if not, avoid big dogs. Fear of the unknown was different because you never really knew what it was you were afraid of. You could ask questions and attempt to learn, but you never knew if you found the piece that made you afraid. You could soul-search and dig really deep to find the answers within yourself, Bee was big on self-reflection, but you didn’t necessarily always find the answers you were seeking.

How do you deal with fear when you manipulate that fear to fortify your strengths? You stand on the ledge because you’re afraid of heights. Or take a path less traveled in the hopes that you come across a snake. You go out of your way to cross paths with big dogs, because you use your fears to make you feel, to make you stronger.

Fear of the unknown is a tricky thing to chase. You have to eliminate immediate threats. Don’t go too close to the edge, wear boots and thick pants, and know the ways to protect yourself from an attack. But the unknown doesn’t have a set of rules for you to follow to skirt the edge of danger.

The problem with the unknown, is that it begs to be known. It has an allure that beckons you closer and you follow, unassuming.

Standing there, looking at Neil’s eyes and seeing them for what they really were, Andrew felt that tantalizing taunt. The tease that the unknowable was willing to be known, but he would have to jump in.

Andrew rocked back on his heels. He had decided. Neil was coming to Columbia with him. It was time for the unknown to become known.

You’d only consider yourself lucky to be able to say you’re apart of the Hamilton Ensemble.

Ever since you were little, you’d always dreamed of being on the big stage, no matter how, just to experience the feeling of true happiness. As a kid, you grew up with school plays and musicals, you would help out the Theatre classes and offer some insight for the Choir kids, and once you were in college, you became a Theatre major.

Though, you can’t say you did all of it alone. You’d made a friend in college by the name of Daveed Diggs, a star track runner and an amazing theatre kid, and once you hit it off, there was no stopping the two of you.

Osomatsu-San Extra Stories Translation ‘Karamatsu of Dreams” Part One

Another translation from the Extra Stories (Bangaihen) novel. This time about Karamatsu and his dreams of putting on a live concert. Quite a lot of painfullness, as you would expect. Doing it in two parts this time.

Cultural note: The Nippon Budokan is a big indoor arena in Tokyo that was originally built to host martial arts contests. It’s also a well known concert venue, and it’s considered very prestigious to play here. An artist or group playing here is a sign that their career is on the up.

Karamatsu of Dreams - Part One

Beneath the blue sky –

Karamatsu was sitting on the roof of the house clutching his guitar.

“Heh… the Goddess of Music is fickle.”

He wasn’t playing the guitar, and he certainly wasn’t singing. From the outside, he didn’t look like he was doing anything other than basking in the sun.

His whole body was bathed in sunlight. He felt as if he were shining like the sun itself.

“Oh, Sunshine! What are you trying to do by heating me up even more? After you’ve lit my heart on fire, you’ll only end up burning yourself, aha?”

He faced the sun and put on his sunglasses.

“I’m dazzling, aren’t I? You can use me, Sunshine!”

羽生結弦 Yuzuru Hanyu 2014 worlds ex
An extremely moving and powerful performance (with a little bit of a long explanation by me below!)

The Significance of Yuzuru Hanyu’s 2014 Worlds Exhibition

During the 2013-14 season, Yuzuru won the triple crown of GPF, Olympics, and World Championships- a pretty big deal.  For his exhibition skate at Worlds 2014, he performed Romeo and Juliet, his free skate from the 2011-2012 season.  He could have chosen any exhibition at all or even had a new one choreographed, but he chose this one.  Here’s what I make of this decision of his…

Case 1: The 2011 Japan Earthquake

As we all know, this program, Romeo and Juliet (ver. 1) was created in the time span shortly after the 2011 Japan Earthquake, a disaster which greatly impacted Yuzuru.  The 16-year-old Yuzuru was training when the earthquake hit Sendai, and had to run out of the rink with his skating boots still on, damaging them in the process.  Afterwards, he and his family stayed in an evacuation centre in a local school for some days.  Their home, along with many others’, had been completely destroyed.  The Sendai ice rink was damaged and closed down.  Many people lost their lives. Yuzuru was extremely conflicted during this time, as he felt that he couldn’t and shouldn’t continue to skate when the other people of Japan were suffering so greatly.  He wished to help in some way that felt more substantial than figure skating, which he thought to be rather selfish.  However, he was able to get back on his feet, and spent the summer following the earthquake skating in ice shows, as these ice shows were the best way for him to get practice time without a rink at home to train in.  Many of the proceeds for the ice shows went to earthquake relief, and Yuzuru’s (and other Japanese skaters’) amazing performances were events of hope and light in a dark time.  Romeo and Juliet (ver. 1) was the very program that he skated during this time.

Case 2: 2012 World Championships

Romeo and Juliet also holds heavy significance in that it was the free skate that earned Yuzuru a bronze medal at the 2012 World Championships.  This was his first ever Worlds title.  It was performance that moved the audience (and himself, and his coach at that time, Nanami Abe) to tears.  Just 17 years old at the time, he proved himself to be a captivating performer who gave the performance his all, and a brilliant jumper on top of that.  Bronze at 2012 Worlds was the title that earned him more fans, recognition, and prestige than ever before.

The bronze medal came little over a year after the earthquake, so the disaster was prevalent in Yuzuru’s mind when he won it.  By not giving up on his skating and on his dreams, he was able to achieve great results.  He earned this rank through working hard and overcoming complicated and painful emotions he had about the earthquake, proving his mental, physical, and emotional strength to be of unimaginable calibre.  Of course, the scars that the earthquake left would never completely disappear, but Yuzuru had started to learn to overcome his fears, doubts, and pain.

Two Years Later… GPF, Olympic, and Worlds Champion

Now, flash forward two years from Worlds 2012 and that bronze medal, and Yuzuru Hanyu is a big name in figure skating.  He’s no longer the young 17-year-old beginning to capture the hearts of figure skating fans, but rather the reigning champion of the Grand Prix Final, the Olympics, and the World Championships.  The spotlight is his, the gold medal is his, and the times are his.

The importance of the Romeo and Juliet program had been further proved by Yuzuru’s choice for his free skate in the Olympic season of 2013-14.  For that season, he chose music from Romeo and Juliet once again, making a connection back to the eventful and evolutionary season of 2011-12.  By choosing the same theme for the Olympic season free skate as the 2011-12 one, Yuzuru was, in a way, giving a solute to all that had happened.  He wanted to show the world that, in his essence, he was still the same boy from Sendai, Japan, which had been hit with a terrible earthquake that people are still affected by to this day.  He wanted to make a tribute to his country, which supported him despite its troubles.  By making this connection to his past, he ensured that the crisis Japan was enduring would not be overlooked, and that he would always remain humble and thankful to what and who had made his Olympic dream possible.

That was the message he carried throughout the Olympic season, and then what does he choose to do for his Worlds exhibition, the last performance of the season?  What does he choose to close off this unforgettable season with?

His 2011-12 Romeo and Juliet free skate.

I mean, what else could it possible have been?  This was one of the most vital and defining programs of his career.  This was the free skate that earned him third place at Worlds at the young age of 17.  This was the last free skate that he ever did with his long-time coach Nanami Abe; the last free skate he ever learned before saying goodbye to all he’d ever known to fly halfway across the world to train in Canada.  This was the free skate that captivated the hearts of viewers everywhere and made us all fall in love with the young, passionate talent that was Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan.

And perhaps most importantly, this was the program that was made when Yuzuru- and all of Japan- was going through an incredibly difficult time.  The earthquake understandably left Yuzuru reeling with shock, grief, and turmoil.  He said himself that after the earthquake, he seriously thought that he would never skate again.

But he did.  A true champions knows that falling is inevitable, and it’s how many times you get back that makes you the real winner.  Yuzuru Hanyu got back up, time and time again, and just look where he ended up.

Triple crown winner (GPF, Olympics, and Worlds), one of the youngest Olympic champions in figure skating ever, and the first ever Japanese man to win Olympic gold in men’s singles figure skating.

A man for the history books.  One of the all-time greats of figure skating.  A pride of his nation.  A priceless gift to the sport.  A privilege to watch, and a shining star to all those whose hearts he as touched.

Romeo and Juliet 1 was a program forged through pain, and ultimately made all the more a triumph because of it.   Yuzuru has said that he “wants to give the kind of performances that stay in people’s hearts”, and this definitely was one.  The performance of it at Worlds 2012 was breathtaking, certainly, full of emotion and passion enough to bring a stadium to its feet.

But watching him doing it again two years later as the exhibition is all the more gratifying because you can clearly see just how much he had evolved and improved. His artistry, musicality, and technicality had greatly advanced- and all the while, he didn’t lose one single bit of that passion and charisma he held as a 17-year-old.  One of Yuzuru’s biggest goals is to never stop evolving, never stop trying to beat the records that he himself has set, and this exhibition was truly a testament to all of his hard work.

A True Champion Knows He Does Not Stand Alone

Yuzuru has also cited this mantra as one of his inspirations: “Don’t forget the beginner’s mind”.  Because of this belief, he is always working hard and striving to do better, and is well-known for always being down to earth, gracious, and grateful.  Using this program at the 2014 Worlds Exhibition was a culmination of all these traits we always see from him; it was a beautiful, powerful tribute to his roots.

After achieving all the greatness of the 2013-14 season, Yuzuru didn’t forget what got him there.  If anything, his success humbled him.  It made him realize how far he had come and who he had to thank for guiding him to the spot in the middle of the podium where he stood.  As he won the GPF gold, the Olympic gold, and the World Championships gold, he did not stand alone on that podium- and he knew this better than anyone.  This exhibition was a performance dedicated to the people who have supported him since day one; to his family, coaches, fans, friends, and rivals; to everyone who had seen something in that 17-year-old bronze medalist in Nice that made them root for him; to his country, which recovered slowly and painfully from a crippling disaster yet still remained a place in which a young man could find his own path.

What a path is has been.

A Name For the History Books

Yuzuru Hanyu is an inspiration, through and through, not only because of the spectacular 2013-14 season that he ended with this skate, but also because of everything ever since.  Many a lesser man would have called it quits after Olympic gold, thinking he’d already peaked- but Yuzuru believed he could do more, and he did.

The world records, the medals, the titles, the wonderful and unforgettable performances- Yuzuru Hanyu has done more than enough to establish himself as a key figure in the history of figure skating.  He is one who will be cited as a great inspiration for many generations to come; as one who pushed himself to push the sport.  He is not only a symbol of triumph and pride for his home country of Japan, but for the entire world, a shining beacon for the strength and skill of mankind as a whole.  He will eternally be known as one of the greatest figure skaters to have ever lived.  A success story to be told for years to come.  A legend.

Yuzuru Hanyu- don’t forget that name.  That’s a name for the history books.

And Now…

All this, and his story isn’t even over yet.  He said on many occasions that that winning Olympic gold was just the beginning- and we all know that when Yuzuru sets his mind to something, he is unstoppable.  We, the people who stand behind him to this day, have seen what he has accomplished since the Olympics, and know that he still has so much more to offer.

We honour you for your hard work Yuzuru, from day one to now and into the future; we will continue to support you and give you the respect and strength you deserve.  And we eagerly await to see what all of us know you can and will deliver.  Ganbatte!!

In honour of Worlds 2017 coming up in about a month- which will be the 3 year anniversary of this exhibition and 5 year anniversary of the free skate it once was- here is Yuzuru Hanyu’s 2013-2014 World Championships Exhibition.  I hope you enjoy!

part 2; lies and deceit

Part one

Pairings: jungkook x reader x taehyung

Genre: angst | fluff | light smut (later on)

Description: two best friends, both have lies that can hurt you, but one is going to hurt you more than the other.

Word Count: 3k

a/n:  this part is super cheesy lol but i don’t care bc i felt cheesy and angsty..  as i said before i want to make this scenario as short as possible but we’ll see.. or i might just stop altogether. either way i really hope some of you like it and again thank you so much for taking the time to read.

People always seemed to be intimated by you for some reason. Each time you walked the halls people gave you this strange look as if they couldn’t understand you, as if you weren’t like them in anyway. Which is why you never had any friends your freshman year of high school. None. Not a soul wanted to sit beside you in class, you were usually left with empty seats on either side of you. During lunch it was the same, you’d sit at the end of a table while the other students filled the seats on the other side. At first you didn’t seem to mind, it’s not like your main focus in high school was to have tons of friends and as your mother would say “experience the best years of your life”. What you really wanted was to focus on grades and getting the perfect GPA. But eventually the emotionless attitude wore out and the suppressed feelings from being an outcast caught up to you..

The first half of your freshman year was outstanding in grades but a complete failure in making any friends or feeling good about yourself, feeling happy.

The only friends you had were books, you’d stay almost everyday after school reading or spending extra time with a teacher to get ahead in the class. Which is how you ran into the one person who would change everything for you.

Jeon Jungkook was popular since birth, or so the rumors went, he was admired by everyone. Every single person in the high school knew him, including the upperclassmen. They loved the bad boy vibes he had, his leather jackets and boots, his one earring he wore, his dark hair and eyebrows, the intimidating and menacing look he had. He was most known for his skills in sports and dating girls older than him. You had three classes with the guy but never paid him any attention, he was loud and obnoxious and it annoyed you. Of course he had the looks, and the body but with his cocky attitude none of it appealed to you. As far as you knew he didn’t even know you existed, if you passed by it was like nothing, he was oblivious to your presence. So for you he didn’t matter.

It was a regular day for you, you were putting your books away in your locker, the halls were empty and everyone had left long ago. You were getting ready to leave yourself. You didn’t hear when Jungkook came marching down the hallway, his face red and full of rage, his big fists clenching at his sides ready to punch anything that was in his way. All you heard was the loud slam of your locker in your face and its echo filling the hallway. You’d expect a scream or squeal to escape your lips but your mouth stayed shut.

“Oh shit! I’m sorry are you hurt?!” Jungkook quickly asks once he see’s someone behind the locker he just punched, his voice trembling still with anger but now more worried. He focuses on you now to see if he did hurt you in anyway and was completely taken back, the sight of you quickly dissolved all the anger he was feeling before and replaced it with something else.

You didn’t hear a word he said, you didn’t even see who it was exactly. You had your eyes closed tight and your hands up to your ears to block out any sound, all you heard was the rapid beating of your heart, it wasn’t even in sync the beating was all over the place.

He touches your shoulder and you open your eyes. They widened when you recognized the guy in front of you. Jungkook was speaking to you his lips moving fast and his brows furrowed displaying a look of full worry and hopelessness. But you couldn’t hear him you still had your ears covered and you were still shaking. He touches your shoulder again and stands closer to you, he only said one word this time and you knew that word. Your name. Jungkook knew your name.

You’re staring at the boy in front of you, his cheeks are stuffed with the lunch you made for him. When he feels that you’re not munching your food anymore, he looks up at you, raising both his eyebrows as if asking you why aren’t you eating?

You flash him a smile, shaking your head. “It’s nothing,” before taking a bite on your egg roll.

Last week he told you that he’s been thinking real hard about chasing his dream for real. Which means he’s been thinking of leaving this small warm hometown of Daegu to come to the faraway metropolitan city of Seoul. You told him that he should go after his dreams wherever it may go, but that time, deep down you knew you would never be able to have the heart to see him going so far away from you.

Deep down you are scared, but this is one thing the boy that you love with everything that you got wants to do, something that he wants to achieve ever since he was a child and you know that. You know that more than anyone else.

So you just smiled at him and told him you would support him through everything.

You know that nothing is stopping him, not even you.
