Empress Josephine’s Coronation Tiara
This grand tiara was made by Nitot (supposedly) as a gift for Josephine, on the occasion of their 1804 coronation, from Napoleon Bonaparte. Where he crowned himself, Emperor Napoleon I and Josephine empress. The tiara stayed with the other crown jewels until 1887, when the French Government sold it to Van Cleef & Arpels for some much needed cash. Van Cleef & Arpels occasionally loaned it to royals, including Princess Grace, but it has now left their collection.
