I really love the timing of Kylo Ren’s outbursts. They don’t come when things go wrong. Most of the time, he maintains a rather calm demeanor. At one point, he even taunts General Hux that a clone army would be better. His outbursts happen when he gives into his own weakness.
BB-8 escapes Jakku. He doesn’t bring out his saber until the messenger reveals that it was Finn who helped the droid. FN-2187. The same stormtrooper who he saw in the village. The stormtrooper who Kylo knew wasn’t behaving the way he was supposed to. The stormtrooper he could’ve had killed or sent away or done a number of things to. But instead, he let his suspicions go and gave FN-2187 another chance under Captain Phasma.
Rey escapes her imprisonment. He knows it’s entirely his fault. Leaving a single stormtrooper to guard over someone strong in the Force? He could’ve knocked her out, done something to her legs so she couldn’t have moved, left droids to torture the information out of her. But he left her as ‘his guest.’ Restrained but unharmed with someone nearby to help/guard/move her in case something went wrong.
He doesn’t lash out because he’s angry at others. He lashes out because he’s angry at himself. Because he failed. Because he was weak. Again. Because, despite his desperation to be like Darth Vader, he is still being swayed by the light within himself. And it’s breaking him apart.
i can’t believe space dad j'onn j'onzz has known this entire time that alex danvers is a huge lesbian since he can read minds and it makes me wonder did he ever read her mind when she was trying to figure out if she’s gay?? like throughout the day she would subconsciously just think about how amazing girls are and j'onn is just like “alex are you kidding me there is no way you are straight” but being the respectful, supportive father he is he just let her figure it out and then wait for her to tell him on her own terms
I really need some like, otayuri fluff in my life rn?? Like pls
•At the beach and Otabek cant swim so Yuri tries to teach him how to swim
•it turns into a giant mess tho because Yuri is apparently a really shitty teacher
•Otabek kisses his frustrations away and instead they make sand castles
•Otabek can draw?? What?? So Yuri lays down on the couch in the LEAST sexy pose and says “draw me like one of your french girls”
•Beka takes a whopping 5 minutes on it, coloring and all, and they laugh at it for 10 minutes
•Later when Yuri falls asleep during the movie at the other end of the couch, Otabek sneaks down and actually does a very nice portrait of Yuri asleep
•Yuri has them both framed in his apartment next to each other
•Yuri constantly buys shit for Beka because he has like no impluse control
•Guys this boy has like a $1,000 backpack okay dont talk to me
•Anyways one day he buys Beka this leather jacket that looks like it belongs in a Lady Gaga music video. Its a crop top jacket with studs and fringe EVERYWHERE and Yuri LOVES IT
•After mails it, like, a week later, Otabek posts a pic on instagram of him, leaning against his bike, in leather skinny jeans and the jacket with ray bands on and it goes like, viral over night. Yuri is s h o o k. Otabek texts him later like, “Oh, by the way, thanks for the jacket Babe”
Give me the boys being silly and stupid and in love p l e a s e
the scene where neil finds out andrew chose him over aaron is like…So Good…it hits him that andrew really, truly does care for him….and that what is happening between them is actually a ‘this’ because at that point andrew would not be able to come back from losing neil, he is the one thing that got between his resolve to never want anything after cass because it nearly killed him, and andrew knew better but, “perhaps it’s the self-destructive streak in me?”
“I don't know if I can ever let Papyrus into the Royal Guard.”
So, I’ve always seen Undyne’s unwillingness to allow Papyrus into the Royal Guard a bit differently than I think the usual consensuses are. While it seems to be taken as a way of showing Papyrus is cinnamon roll too precious too pure innocent bean so oblivious protect him, I always felt like it was more… the opposite?
I could (and almost did, a few times) go into a larger rant about this, but I think if you play UT without knowing anything about it, vs knowing a little about it, Undyne and Papyrus are both meant to be seen a bit negatively until various turning points. Papyrus is probably meant to be seen as stupid and inept and weak, all things that he is not, and through his fight, his date, his friendship and calls, and eventually Undyne’s confession, the fact that he is not all of that is revealed. He’s not in the Royal Guard because he’s too nice. Not because he’s weak. Not because he’s stupid. Not because he’s inept.
(but if you go in already knowing Papyrus
(and monsters as a whole are) nice/sweet/cinnamon roll, I think it has the opposite effect of making him seem weak because he is nice. I don’t think that’s the message at all the scene is meant to convey.)
That moment is supposed to be a final affirmation of who Papyrus is as a character, a nice guy who isn’t the right fit for his dreams because of his morals and good character, not because of his (supposed lack of) abilities. This moment is also the start of softening and revealing Undyne’s character, showing the level of care and concern she has for the people around her, which, to this point on a pacifist run, you likely would not have seen.
So basically, what I’m saying is, I don’t think this was meant to be a sign that Pap needs to be coddled and infantilized, but a sign that he doesn’t need to be. He’s tough, he’s competent, but he’s just not a solider.
But there’s more to it than just that…
While Undyne cites the fear that Papyrus would just let himself be killed as a motive for why she doesn’t want to let someone so nice into the Guard, I feel like this was also an early hint at the nature of LOVE. LOVE changes souls and causes them to harden and change, and it’s effects on a human are strong enough to be noticable, but it seems likely that monsters, who are more in-tune with their souls, would react even more to gaining LV. Wanting to protect Papyrus and his innocence and niceness likely goes beyond just a worry that he would allow himself to be killed if placed in that position.
Because if it’s kill or be killed, and Papyrus did kill (because Undyne trained him seriously as a solider, instead of just cooking lessons and roughhousing), he would gain LV and probably lose the part of his personality that Undyne admires. That nice, innocent, friendly part of Papyrus’s soul, would be chipped away, and Undyne perceives that that would be her fault for placing him in that position.
So I think it’s a lot more than just Papyrus being seen as too stupid to protect himself. I think Undyne’s considered both options, but the other doesn’t come up because you aren’t meant to know the nature of LOVE at this point, and because she’s not going to go into the minutia of her hard-thought decision to an eight year old.
