hayashi natsumi

Tokyo-based photographer Hayashi Natsumi produced a series of “floating self-portraits” featuring herself in various settings appearing to levitate.  In every photograph, the artist’s feet are hovering above the ground.  The photo series was inspired by Natsumi’s desire to rebel against the prevalent idiom that one’s feet should always be planted firmly on the ground.

“In Japan, we have the exact same idiom. But I am not a practical person at all. Therefore, I try not to have my feet on the ground in my self-portrait photos to show my true self.”

We say float on. XX
