Stephen Hawking says otherwise while experiencing zero G’s in one of those zero G airplanes that simulate the environment astronauts work in while in space.
So that’s one moment of floating for a disabled man, and one giant leap for the disabled community.
And the thing with Stephen Hawking– if you didn’t know who he was and he didn’t have his speech device, most people wouldn’t even know he’s fully competent and at this current time he probably knows more about black holes than anyone ever will.
There are disgustingly ableist conspiracy theorists that say he’s some grandpa pulled out of a nursing home to be a government mouthpiece and that he’s not even controlling his speech synthesizer. Never mind that he twitches his cheek and the sensor on it manipulates his computer to do all kinds of cool stuff.
Some people just cannot fathom that a man with a disability that makes him dependent on others for everything except sharing his thoughts is capable of being competent.
Btw, I think the zero G flight took place before he was on a ventilator full-time, but I could be wrong because he had a tube coming out of his pant leg on the plane. That may have been something to keep the monitoring equipment all together, though. I do know that Stephen Hawking is currently on a vent.
But I doubt a ventilator will stop disabled people from going out into space someday. Who knows what will happen in the next fifty to a hundred years? There could be kids in wheelchairs spinning donuts on Mars!
Isabela: Teamwork is overrated. Sharing is a bunch of bull, too. And helping others. And what’s all this crap I’ve been hearing about tolerance? Hawke: Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
If your blog content is 75% hockey or more, reblog so I can check you out and follow you! I just made this hockey sideblog and am looking for more people to fill my dash with relevant content. Bonus if you’re into the Chicago Blackhawks (esp Kane, Panarin, Teuvo, Shaw, and TVR) and/or the Washington Capitals (super bonus for Willy&Lats, Burky). Oh and this is a sideblog so I’ll follow you under my main, @baewhishaw, but all hockey stuff will be on here ^^’
