He wasn't a video game writer (although his daughter now is) but Terry Pratchett was one of the Straight White Men who could write marginalised characters well.

Shit you right!

Terry Pratchett would have never done this to us.

Here’s the thing though about Pratchett that makes him stand out. Pratchett was no better than any other Straight White Man at the beginning. His first books are terrible when it comes to marginalized representation, he was That White Straight Guy.

But, he wanted to change. He wanted to become a writer for EVERYONE, he actively sought to do better and to make an impact. He practiced his marginalized characters over and over, he made his stories about them again and again; getting better each time. He educated himself on their plights, their lives, and then he realized they were people too. Who deserved to be more than caricatures for his hero’s sake.

He equalized his characters, he took the privileged characters down a peg and gave a foot up to the marginalized characters. And he did still slip up in places, but he always promised to do better next time and delivered on that promise.

Which is unlike every other Straight White Man writer who either decides that he is fine where he is or that if he had made a few changes and it would have work out. They’re not actively looking to listen, they’re just looking to be adequate.

Terry Pratchett went above and beyond to break away from the Straight White Man slump (that he did exist in for a while), no other Straight White Man writer is willing to do that for a single character and become a true allied voice for marginalized communities. Especially not in the Gaming Industry.

We all know Robin Lord Taylor is very talented at Oswald’s gasps and over-exaggerated breathing, come on you know what I’m talking about, so can you imagine the moment Ed and Oswald get together how vocal Robin is going to be. With Cory sucking at his neck or lips or whole body flushed against him, the noises he’s going to make as Oswald are going to be so adorable and needy.

Imagine Steve in an AU where he adopts the Maximoff twins!

“So Friday tells me if you want to stay, we have to get started, like yesterday on your alphabet soup visa type applications because it can take a while and like—Friday, can you explain it?”  Tony flashed a quick smile. “Pepper usually handles this sort of thing.  Sorry.”

“Sure, boss.  Their B visas expire in approximately 4 months. They’ll need to apply for an H1-B if they want to stay.  Though, it’ll be a stretch.  I’m not sure if the government will consider what they do as ‘skilled labor’.  Worth a shot, and they’re familiar with Stark Industries sponsoring visas.  We just have to hope they make it through the lottery.”

Pietro quirked an eyebrow.  “And if we don’t?”

“-We can find a way.  Right?” Tony glanced towards the ceiling.

We might be able to get you back on an L visa, if we can set you up in our Sokovia branch.  It’s mostly a foundation, but it’d be just about all we have left as an option.  A green card would be an option, too, but it’d take some time.  More than we have.”

After Sokovia, with the twins joining the Avengers in a not-so-low-profile move to the Tower, the government was asking a lot of questions about their allegiances and intent.  Tony had lawyers for that, but they were still working on the best way to legally keep the Maximoffs in the country.  They kept coming up short.  Tony dropped heavily onto a couch with a groan.  “Uggghhh.  This is why Pepper does all this.  What the hell.”

Or” Steve had come out of nowhere, dropping a folder onto the glass table.  “We do an adult adoption.”

“Can you do that?”  Tony sat up straighter.

I’ll have to look into it, boss. But without any living parents, provided they consent, Captain Rogers should be able to.”

Wanda smiled slyly.  “Is that why you give Vision side-eye? Do you disapprove of the relationship we may or may not have?”

Pietro laughed.  “You do a great Disappointed Dad face.  I will not call you Dad, though.”

Steve grinned.  “I don’t expect you would.”

Wanda glanced over the paperwork Steve had brought.  “Ok.  Yes. But,” she pointed a finger at Steve, “only if you promise to stop looking so suspicious of Viz.”

Steve held up his hands.  “Sorry, ok.”

Tony clapped his hands together.  “This is great.  I’ve gotta go organize a party.  Adoption shower.  Something. There’ll be cake.  It’s gonna be great.  Friday!  Friday, take care of Steve’s paperwork.”

Yes, boss.”

better than anyone - 4

He woke up with a snort, not remembering how he came to be asleep on the library sofa or where the blanket covering him had come from.  Sherlock blinked and wiped at his eyes, eventually focusing on the yellow glow emanating from the fireplace and the silhouette of his partner sitting on the ottoman before it. He studied the slope of her back, her hung head …

“One of those nights?” His voice husky with sleep startled her. Joan turned around and looked at him.  She cocked her head to the side, shrugged a shoulder and resignedly nodded.

Sherlock turned on his side, scooted closer to the sofa’s back, picked up the blanket and motioned for her.  She had accepted his offer of solace in the past and now did so again. Joan stood and made her way towards him.  She sat and swung her legs up, silently nestling her back into the warm crook of his body.  He placed the blanket over her and lightly placed his hand at her upper arm for reassurance. They quietly adjusted, allowing their bodies to fit, to arch in protection and acceptance of the same.

His voice came to her ear in hushed tones. “Shall I tell you a story? The Tale of the Three Detective Bears and how they thwarted the plans of their evil blond nemesis? Hmm?”

She couldn’t help but smile, “Sherlock …” she chided his silliness.

He felt her shoulders lose a little tension and he continued.  "It’s quite a tale. The handsome, virile, debonair British bear saves the day, with bravery and intelligence, bringing Goldiarty down with his ….“

"Excuse me?” Joan smiled and moved her head back closer to his, “I believe it was the beautiful, alluring, highly intelligent Chinese American doctor bear who solved her with insight and saved the …

"Yes, yes … well, that’s one version of the story…” he happily held her a little closer, letting his cheek brush her hair, his arm moved around to encircle her waist.

Joan drew a satisfied breath; her hand moved over his arm . “So who is the baby bear?”

“Clyde.” He answered without hesitation, drawing a small laugh from her.

The fire crackled and a peaceful quiet settled between them. He listened as her breathing slowed and felt her eventually drift off to sleep. He followed her.

Getting a glimpse of what Fifth Harmony looks and sounds like as a four piece on stage last night was very promising. The harmonies, the solo distribution, and the arrangements were already so much better and it was only their first real performance...

Little Battleborn Things #950

I love playing Beatrix because she’s such a relatable character for me when I was a kid. I’ve always had this morbid fascination with how diseases and parasites work and the things they do to people’s bodies. “Incoming transmission!” is one of my favorite lines because it’s a funny way to refer to how diseases spread between hosts, when that wording usually refers to radio transmissions. She’s just a joy to play!

i'm kinda liking that they stopped hypocritically hyping us with malec, it's sunday and it's silence from todd and writer of ep 8 on social media, they are so used to bait us with malec that without it they don't know what to do and how to get attention (which is f- sad for the show which has 7 awesome main characters)

I would normally agree to this, Anon. But as I said, right now I am just…whatever.

I think they really got how much they fucked up. (Explaining things that should be shown in the ep to the fandom on twitter…what the actual fuck??? smh) Of course we all know that “Shadowhunters” is not only Malec. Besides (correct me if I am wrong here) I haven’t read/heard a single complain about the “lack” of Malec this season. Because the storytelling and the way this couple had been written felt real and honest. And it all made sense. The fandom may have complained about the marketing team giving away all the Malec scenes, but other than that, all was good.

But when the showrunner claims an episode “Malec Mania” (he did that, not the marketing people over at Freeform!) and now acts all surprised that the fandom is pissed… like….seriously??? And it’s not even about the lack of Malec in that certain episode but the way their scenes were edited and/or written. Why does nobody of them get what the real and big problem is? Siiiiigh.

Then again, apparently including all 7 main characters into your plot seems to be a huge issue this season. Where is the oh so big and promised plot for Luke? And what is the purpose of Simon this season? All his scenes don’t feel very integrated at all to me! Not to mention some other issues that happened but that don’t make me love the show less.
