Baby (feat. Dâm-Funk) – Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti

Covering an obscure blue-eyed soul love song, and doing a straight, faithful rendition seems quite out of character for Ariel Pink. Which makes it pretty in character as well, ironically. Thus is the status of a guy so hipster that even hipsters don’t always know who he is. But none of that matters, what does is the song. “Baby” is refreshingly simple and chilled out, with a great bass line and breathy vocals from Pink. For a love song, “Baby” has this sense of loneliness to it with the echoing background vocals and bare bones production.

Baby is number 50 on Tune O’ The Day’s 50 Best Songs of the Year Countdown.

GENRE: Indie, Pop
