I have had three of these 1918 Yankees hats in my life. the original two were bought for me as gifts by my grandparents (I only really had one sent of them). if you knew me between the ages of 15-23 you probably saw me wearing them to death. I rarely wear this one. it’s wool so it’s real HOT, it’s fits my large head weirdly and frankly the stripes just don’t go with my style. I don’t know why I’m posting this or sharing it with you but as I put it on tonight I just felt like taking a shitty photo of myself in it.

Independence Day

On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and voted to approve a motion for independence from Great Britain. July 4th is America’s Independence Day because the actual Declaration of Independence was adopted on that day in 1776. Scholars believe that most of the delegates signed it on Aug. 2nd. This illustration is in print today, and I’m glad to know that it coincided with the anniversary of the vote.
