hate bullying

So this short one shot is a combination of a venting piece, and something that was inspired because @solbabydraws always makes me want to draw Percy Jackson stuff. It feels like sometimes people in the fandom (Not Solbaby! Just other writers I’ve read) and people in general seem to forget that Percy (And pretty much all guys, trust me) also appreciate kind words and can be sensitive. It’s okay to not always be tough folks, and that’s coming from a guy who gets through most of his problems by just toughing it out. We all need to hear kind words sometimes. Sometimes teasing can get to people, even if it’s light hearted. (It’s certainly getting old for me at work sometimes…) Ironically this is also released on MentalHealthAwareness day so there’s that too. Anyway, sorry for the mini rant, enjoy!

Glaring at his pencil, Percy wondered how mad Annabeth would be if he snapped her mechanical pencil in half. Knowing her however, he figured it wouldn’t be worth the scowl and bickering for a few seconds of tension relief.

Setting down the pencil onto his “extra homework” he dropped his head onto the table to avoid the temptation of causing property damage for Annabeth. If he wasn’t so utterly in love with Annabeth, there was no way he would be doing extra homework during their summer vacation. Not even the gods could have convinced him of this task.

They were preparing to finish their senior year, then go to college together. However, Annabeth had warned that Percy needed to be on top of the ball to ensure there were no academic problems that could interfere. Of course, Percy had already used up all his strikes, and them some, so it was really down to the line. Annabeth had been helping him, and promised to make it up to him later for studying so hard now.

Of course Annabeth had been the best studying partner. Bringing him snacks occasionally, explaining things in her wonderful confident, yet patient tone. Not to mention the brief study breaks that usually ended out in make-out sessions.

Annabeth had some other tasks to attend to for the day, leaving Percy to study and work on the next section of the workbook on his own. Promising to bring him a treat when she was free later, she had the utmost confidence in her boyfriend that he could finish the work.

Percy had also been pretty confident that he could do it alone. At least until his day had decided to spiral progressively downwards. Raising his head slightly, he let it drop with a soft thud on the table. Repeating the action, he thought back to what had started this hellish day.

So I notice when it comes to human au’s, Jasper’s often written as that dumb, incompetent jock stereotype who sucks at school and is really only good at sports and bullying people around.

Now I have nothing against Jasper being written as jock but can we please have hella smart AND hella athletic Jasper? Especially since, in a lot of schools, most students aren’t allowed to continue participating in extracurricular activities (like football for example) unless their grades are good.

In canon Jasper’s a warrior which obviously means she has to be very disciplined. So consider that translating to her being serious as fuck about her grades, not just sports.

Things to think about:

• Jasper loves to challenge herself, so she’s always taking up extra credit assignments that aren’t even necessary.

• Jasper being super competitive with her grades. Because if that nerd over there got 98% there’s not fucking way she’s settling for a 95%. She can totally do better.

• all her peers freak out when a teacher/professor announces a random pop quiz, and Jasper’s just sits there smug and so ready because she always takes it upon herself to be prepared for any situation.

• Jasper studying in conditions that literally anyone else would find ridiculous. Like shes trying to find the sum of ‘X’ while simultaneously bench pressing something or someone that’s most liked more than half her weight adjk.

• Then lastly, at the end of a long ass school day, she completely destroys the other team at whatever sport she’s playing without so much as smudging her eyeliner.

I has a prompt. I saw people talking about the houses the sides would be in when the new sanders sides video hadn't come out yet, but this person said that Patton might be in Slythrin and I was like "what?? Why would he be in slythrin? He's not evil" But then I saw their explination and I was like woah that does make sense and I was wondering if you could write a tiny fic about how the sides would react to Patton being put into Slythrin? Just like a Hogwarts au style thing

i love this sooooooooo much

this is one of the worst things I’ve ever written. I’m so sorry this turned out so bad.

“Sanders, Patton!”

The youngest Sanders boy walked nervously up to the stool, trying to smile as he searched the crowd for his brothers. His oldest brother, Logan, stared at him intently from the Gryffindor table. 4th year Roman was standing up at the Ravenclaw table, his eyes shining with pride. 6th year Virgil wasn’t watching Patton but was already moved over so that there was an empty seat for his brother to sit in when he was sorted into Hufflepuff along with Virgil, just like everyone expected. Patton wasn’t so sure though, and his nervousness grew, even more, when the sorting hat was placed on his head.

“Ah yes, Patton, I’ve heard about you. You’re the supposed destined-to-be-Hufflepuff everyone’s been talking about,” the sorting hat mused, and Patton almost felt hopeful. The hat tsked, and his heart fell again.

“Are you sure you want to go there? Wouldn’t you rather go to a house where you could progress and grow, and become the wizard you were meant to be?” the hat said wisely to the anxious eleven-year-old boy. Patton blinked, thinking about it for a moment. He supposed the hat was right. Just because everyone else wanted to be a Hufflepuff didn’t mean he was actually going to be one. He let out a teeny smile and nodded.

The house hummed in approval before saying, “Then it ought to be….Slytherin!” The last table to Patton’ s left erupted into cheers and claps, and a few students even stood up to greet their newest house member. Patton hopped down from the stool, trying to smile as he searched the crowd for his brothers once again. Virgil was talking to a friend, Logan was looking down at the table in shock, and Roman was glaring at Patton with such a ferocious anger that the young wizard was sure holes had been burned through his body. Tears welled up in his eyes and he ran the rest of the way to the table, fighting back those gosh-darn-ding-dang tears in his eyes as he sat down on the bench. He was immediately clapped hard on the back, engulfed in hugs, and greeted so many times he lost count. He smiled once more, looking at the other boys and girls with dull eyes.

The rest of the week was hell. Every time Patton tried to talk to his brothers, they would turn away from him, acting as if he didn’t exist. Virgil was the only one to cast him the occasional pitying glance or squeeze his hand as they passed by one another in the halls, but Logan and Roman made no move to accept Patton’s horrifying stance as a Slytherin. Their father, Thomas, had always taught the four brothers that Slytherins weren’t always evil (he’d been close friends with Scorpius when they went to school), but it seemed that Patton and Virgil had been the only ones to listen to that lesson.

“Hey, snake-face! Where are you going in such a hurry?” Patton walked faster, clutching his books tightly to his chest as he was followed closely by a group of older students, his brother Roman included in the mass.

“Just get to the dungeons. Just get to the dungeons and it’ll be fine,” Patton whispered to himself, trembling a bit as the taunting voices of the older boys began to creep closer.

“He asked where you were going!” Roman shouted, and the comment was quickly followed by a chorus of hideous laughter. Patton’s heart leaped into his throat and he was about to break into a run when he was grabbed by the back of his robe and shoved against the wall, his head slamming against it with a sickening crack. He groaned, black dots dancing in front of his eyes. Through the haze, he could see that the boy holding him wasn’t his brother, but a 7th-year boy from Gryffindor.

“P-Please let me go, I need to get to potions,” Patton said hurriedly, keeping his eyes cast down and praying that the older boy would show him some mercy. Instead, all he got was a laugh and his feet being knocked out from under him. Patton saw Roman’s surprised face before a foot came flying towards him, and his head snapped back with the force of the kick, a loud crack sounding as his head smacked against the wall and his nose broke, blood flowing freely. Patton groaned in pain and curled up into a ball, tears welling up in his eyes as kicks and punches continued to come his way.

“Stop! Stop it, leave him alone!” someone shouted. The pain kept coming and Patton let out a quiet moan, tears dripping down his face and nose onto the floor. Roman was there and he wasn’t doing anything. Logan didn’t care. Virgil was too scared to help. Patton was alone. He was destined to be evil, to be a monster, to hurt people, and he was getting what he deserved. He cracked an eye open and saw Roman looking down at him, surprised, amused, even happy, as one of his friends kicked him again. Patton screamed and cried and tried to curl up tighter, hiding his face in his hands.

“Crucio!” another person said with glee, and Patton shrieked, eyes blowing wide with pain as his body jerked and twitched. Every atom felt as if it were on fire, burning his flesh away and rocketing through his veins like poison. He couldn’t even scream anymore, his mouth gaping open silently, beads of sweat on his forehead.

“I SAID STOP IT!” the person howled again, and Patton gasped in surprise as the pain was suddenly gone, and someone grabbed him by the collar and yanked him upwards. He screamed and flailed blindly at the person holding him, only to be dragged away and then clung to like a lifeline. Still sobbing and shaking in terror, Patton looked up to see Virgil looking down at him with a stricken face, trails of moisture that matched Patton’s already on his face. He glanced at the boys who had been kicking him, his breath hitching in surprise as he saw Logan repeatedly punching a guy he had pinned up against a wall, his eyes filled with blind rage.

“STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY BROTHER!” Logan roared, throwing one last hit before letting the poor student go, watching him run off in terror. Breathing heavily, Logan turned back to face Patton, who was clinging to Virgil and crying openly, his knuckles white from clenching his robes. Roman hung back as Logan knelt down on one knee and opened his arms up to their youngest brother, who sobbed and flung himself into Logan’s arms. Swallowing hard, he bowed his head in shame.

“T-Thank you! Thank you s-so much!” Patton wailed, his voice muffled since his face was buried in Logan’s shoulder. The Gryffindor held onto his brother tightly, his heart filled with regret as he saw the blood and tears smeared on the front of Patton’s robes. This was their fault.

“Don’t thank us, Pat. If we had just…accepted you in the first place, this wouldn’t have happened. We could’ve protected you,” Logan mumbled into Patton’s hair, rocking slightly back and forth. Patton sniffled and nuzzled into the crook of Logan’s neck.

“N-No…i’s okay. I understand. Y-You don’t…you don’t have to pretend. Roman isn’t,” Patton said quietly, his voice sounding so broken. The three other brothers were silent, and Virgil glanced at Roman coldly, eyes looking his 14-year-old brother up and down judgingly.

“You told me you’d help him.”

“I-I know, but-”

“You promised me. You swore on your honor you’d try to accept him.”

“I know I did. I’m sorry! I didn’t know they were going to hurt him!” Roman said with his eyes clenched shut. “That’s no excuse, I know, there isn’t any, but I promise that I didn’t want to hurt Pat.” Patton’s shoulders trembled and he shook his head.

“I deserved it. It’s fine,” Patton muttered.

“No,” Virgil said, his voice sharp. “No, you didn’t. God damn it, Pat, why do you have to think like that?” Patton blinked and looked at his older brother, watching as he scrubbed frustrated tears out of his eyes. “Everyone….everyone thought I was going to be a Slytherin. I should’ve been there for you more. I should’ve d-done something,” Virgil choked out.

“We all should have done something. Pat, if this is anyone’s fault, it is ours. Can you forgive us? Them, at least?” Roman asked quietly, unable to meet the other boy’s eyes. Patton kept his head against Logan’s chest, dazed and confused at this sudden exchange of guilt and blame.

“I…I forgive you. I forgive all of you. It’s okay,” Patton said. Roman burst into tears and Virgil scooped Patton up into his arms, swooping him away from Logan and hugging him tightly as he spun around. Patton laughed for the first time in ages as he hung onto Virgil tightly, forehead pressed to his, eyes closed in content.

“W-We…We should take you to the infirmary, Patton. Can I take you?” Roman asked as Virgil set Patton down and ruffled his hair. Patton glanced at the other nervously, biting his lip and twisting the sleeve of his robes in his hands.

“Okay, Ro…” Patton said, holding out his hand for the other to take.

Okay but it was literally confirmed that Pidge chose the name ‘Pidge’ to go undercover because Matt called her Pidge for fun.

not to be "that person", but whats your opinion on Dekubaku?

i don’t like it.

there’s ten years of abuse and bullying from Bakugou to Izuku, and i can’t see it ever becoming a healthy relationship in the long run, even if they do resolve their issues. that’s a lot of history, over half of their lives, and a lot of bad blood.

i can see them maybe becoming tentative friends in the future, only after they’ve resolved their issues with each other and Bakugou has sincerely apologized for everything he did to Izuku. but most of their personal issues stem from a misunderstanding of each other.

Izuku’s self confidence was was severely beaten down by Bakugou, and Bakugou’s inferiority complex has been fueled for 10 years by his misunderstanding and fear of Izuku’s intentions.

i just can’t see those lingering feelings ever fully disappearing, and i imagine being in a relationship would only bring those feelings back to the surface.

they’ve never been very good at communicating with each other (it took 10 years before they tried talking, and only because Bakugou was going through an emotional breakdown from his guilt over All Might retiring), and were barely friends as kids, when their relationship was arguably at it’s best. (and even back then, most of what Bakugou did was insult Izuku and show him up for fun. tho it only turned hostile after the incident where Izuku tried to help him)

they can push each other into becoming better heroes and people. Izuku admires Bakugou’s determination and that inspires him, and Bakugou refuses to lose or be left behind by Izuku. Izuku can learn more about winning from Bakugou, and Bakugou can learn more about saving people from Izuku. they’ve finally talked and resolved some of their issues, and have become proper rivals.

but that doesn’t mean their relationship is completely fine now.

plus, neither character has ever particularly liked the other very much. Izuku does admire Bakugou, but he feels a deep sense of antipathy towards him for everything Bakugou’s done to him (which, considering everything, is a very understandable response). Izuku is willing to put aside differences and work with him for the greater good, however. Izuku likes to avoid conflict unless he feels it’s necessary.

Izuku might have some lingering feelings of friendship from back when they were very, very young, but i think they’d be nostalgic, fleeting, and confusing at best. Bakugou never told Izuku why he started bullying him until 10 years later, after all, and that must’ve really confused Izuku.

most of the time tho he actively tries to avoid Bakugou unless the situation forces otherwise.

Bakugou, on the other hand, has never once shown anything but disdain for Izuku. the nicest he ever was was when they were kids, when Bakugou thoughtlessly and harshly mocked Izuku. (which is something that kids who aren’t taught better often tend to do. as in, they tend to say mean and thoughtless things without thinking about how their words affect others. Bakugou never learned how his actions affect others until UA.)

their relationship is getting better, slowly but surely, but i just can’t see them ever having a healthy romantic relationship. i can see them barely having a healthy friendship, and only after certain conditions are made (talking out their issues more and a heartfelt apology from Bakugou).

you can’t just erase 10 years of emotional and physical abuse and conditioning.

full offence anyone saying that the possibility of cutting li shang out the live-action remake of mulan is okay because “mulan” is about her saving china and being a model female protagonist not about her and shang can come and fight me because asian men are just as important as asian women being represented in the media??? there are children who grew up with li shang as their oNLY representation!! li shang was the son of a captain who wanted to make his father proud, wanted to protect his country and lead a good army for the emperor, and in the end, went against the law to save mulan’s life for his and helped her when she came to the capital to defeat the huns like you’re sitting here and saying that it’s 100% okay to cut that narrative away??? “mulan” wasn’t just about mulan saving china, it was about her rising to the ranks in her army through preservance and struggles, it was about mulan changing the minds around her to shape people that ended up respecting her through and through, as both a man and a woman, and if you take away li shang you’re taking away an integral part of mulan so fuck you, disney, if you go through with this, fuck you.

The part of AVPD that I hate the most is the loneliness, god, GOD. I hate that I am afraid to be too much, that I will say too much, or that what I will say will be annoying/humiliating, so I keep my mouth shut, I keep all the thoughts inside, I have so much to say and share but I don’t because the disorder is here and it tells me, no, don’t talk, nobody cares and you will just make a fool of yourself. And it is incredibly painful, the many thoughts in my head and the few words I actually say, because it builds walls and I feel so incredibly alone. I feel like letting them out will cause rejection and isolation and I am awfully afraid of being selfish, too self-centred, too focused on myself, idk. I’m afraid. Silence feels safer but silence is thick walls and that hurts a lot.

—  Rudy Francisco, Definitions

Ive had this draft open for a few weeks now, trying to find the right words for what I want to say, so bear with me here.

First off: In the past, I’ve been accused of using my fandom fame to “bully” lesser-known blogs or even sending my followers to attack certain people (despite the fact Ive made multiple posts telling my followers there is no situation where sending hate is justified) so I’d like to preface this by saying I am not calling out any specific blog, fandom group, or shipping community. The purpose of this post is not to cause drama, but rather to bring attention to an issue I think the ML fandom as a whole needs to be aware of.

*ahem* anyways…

Wanting to “keep the peace” is not a valid reason to shut down real criticisms of real problems in the fandom.

Silencing discourse about important issues because you “want to keep the fandom drama-free” does not make you a saint.

Dismissing or attacking people when they draw attention to glaring problems in the fandom does nothing to help us grow and overcome these problems.

I’ve heard people say that the ML fandom is the nicest they’ve ever been in because there is no conflict. Because we all ship the love square right? Because we all want to see Adrien and Marinette end up together, right?

ML Fandom: We are all united :) love square for life :) how could there possibly be drama? :)

Wait, artists are white-washing canon poc characters?

Wait, re-posters are stealing art and publishing without credit?

Wait, there is nsfw posted in the main fandom tags where children can see it?

Wait, bloggers are romanticizing abusive ships/tropes and exposing them to impressionable minors/actual abuse survivors?

Wait, lgbtaq+ creators are getting hateful comments telling them to “stop interfering with the love square”?

Fandom: “…C’mon guys :/ stop complaining :/ lets keep the fandom drama-free :/…”

Now I get it, online fandom is a form of escape. I fully support the idea that fandom should be a safe space for everyone. As long as you are participating in fandom in a way that DOESN’T PUT OTHER PEOPLE AT RISK, you should be free to blog in peace.

That being said, the problem isn’t that people want a drama-free blogging experience, the problem is that some people are willing to make fandom enjoyable for themselves at the expense of others. They would rather ignore valid criticisms of fandom just because the problem doesn’t effect them personally, then accuse people who continue to draw attention to the problem of “stirring up drama in our good ol wholesome fandom.”

But guess what?

There is no perfect fandom.

If a person of color tells you a piece of content is racist, you listen.

If an artist tells you reposting is wrong, you listen.

If an underage individual (or anyone really) tells you to keep nsfw art out of main tags, you listen.

If an abuse survivor tells you certain content is triggering/ potentially harmful, you listen. (Yes, even if you yourself are an abuse survivor using a scenario to “cope”.)

If an lgbtaq+ individual points out the disproportionate criticism of non-lovesquare (and in most cases non-het) content, you listen.

Ignoring, and in some cases even arguing against these claims doesn’t keep the fandom “drama-free”. Shutting down valid discourse doesn’t make ML Tumblr a “nicer” or “happier” place to be.

All it does is does is alienate marginalized fans who fear that voicing their completely valid concerns over negative fandom trends will get them branded a bully or instigator of drama.

All it does is absolve problematic people of guilt and embolden them to keep engaging in questionable fandom activities because they know the fandom is too concerned with “staying drama free” to do anything about.

All it does is further divide us.

And it needs to stop.

TLDR: If you shut someone down when they are pointing out a valid, important problem in the fandom, you are not trying to make the fandom “nicer for everyone”, you are trying to make the fandom nicer for yourself. Just because a problem doesnt effect you personally doesnt mean its not a problem. There is no such thing as a drama-free fandom, and ignoring key issues for the sake of pretending there is such a thing is irresponsible and disrespectful to marginalized member of the fandom.
