I really love that this show allows Michonne to be soft and hard at the same time. Yes, she can handle eight walkers on her own, and then eight more. But she also enjoys romantic gestures including candlelit dinners, and needs Rick’s reassuring embrace while she cries every once in a while. She is a strong independent woman, but she does need a man (or a someone) to share her life with. She doesn’t fit neatly into any boxes about what a woman should or shouldn’t be. I’ve thought this about Michonne since season 4, but this episode conveyed it so well for everyone who likes to forget.
