We all remember this gem of an episode. The classic tale of the Hash Slinging-Slasher was the second Spongebob monologue that I memorized because it was just so damn funny.
But something always seemed off about this episode, and me and supershelbie just figured it out.
Every aspect of the story of the Hash Slinging-Slasher is explained at the end. The spooky guy with the spatula hand is a nerdy but well prepared unemployed fish who looks for jobs at very late hours. The phone that is ringing at 3 am with no one there, the same fish. (Why is he looking for jobs at 3 am?) And the lights are being flickered by, well, Nosferatu.
But, they never explained the bus.
As part of Swuidward’s story, the Hash Slinging-Slasher arrives at the Krusty Krab in the ghost of the bus that ran him over. When the nerd with the unexplained glowing nostrils arrives, he shows up in a bus. A creepy dark green bus.
Spongebob says “I didn’t think the buses ran this late.” to which Squidward replies, in a terrified voice upon realizing that his prophecy is coming true “They don’t.”
At the end of the episode, the buses still shouldn’t be running that late, so regarfkess, that fish showed up in a haunted bus.
Squidward can predict the future, just 70% of it is wrong.
