has this become my style or not really

anonymous asked:

Tell me, are you usually okay with your style or do you feel insecure and constantly feel like shifting from style to style ? Do you have any advice for those who feel like that ?

mmmm i feel like switching styles all the time but it’s more of because i get bored fast and get inspired by like 10 other styles at the same time, rather than being insecure?

it’s always been like this for me since starting 2 years ago, and it isn’t anything bad at all! trying a new style (eg. realism) is always exciting, fun and daunting at the same time and we usually end up sucking in our first few attempts, but from simply having tried it the traits that we’ve learnt from that new style tend to start reflecting on our own original ones in a matter of time.

this is how our styles keep morphing and becoming “fuller” as we learn and incorporate traits from many other styles to mix into our own. this is how artists keep being excited. no one ever said that you had to have 1 distinct style as an artist. if you want to master over 20, heck, who’s to stop you?

I realized today (correct me if I’m wrong)

Solange is the only celebrity I can think of who “shared” her natural hair journey with us. We saw her from her big chop to what her hair has grown out to be and probably will continue to become. We’ve seen the braids and wigs and other protective styles in between and I think it such a beautiful thing to want to share with fans and the world where most people, especially celebrities, only want to show their natural hair once it’s grown out to shoulder/ back length. I think that being able to grow out your hair to those lengths is beautiful in itself. I just see a more relatable beauty with Solange. Where those who are struggling with accepting their natural hair especially when their curls are really tight and 75% of the naturals around them have really loose curls.

But yeah.

1. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell: I LOVED this. 90s era, funny, smart, warm, and all the characters are really likeable. So the main character is a man whose job it is to read company emails to make sure the employees are following company policy and all that and the other two main characters are best friends who write long emails to each other at work. It’s a great read and now I want to write a fic based on the plot…also this is Rainbow Rowell’s first novel and she has quickly become one of my favourite authors.

2. Landline by Rainbow Rowell: Nearly read all of Rowell’s stuff now. Not going to lie, this book is a bit confusing and I can’t be entirely sure of its genre? It’s about a magic landline phone that calls to the past. But it’s great. The main character, Georgie is really funny and interesting to get to know, and again. I love Rainbow’s style of writing.

3. If I was Your Girl by Meredith Rosso: HOLY. This story is poignant and sad and beautiful and very well written. So, this story is about a transgender teenage girl who has just moved to a new school and is the typical popular, gorgeous, new girl, except no one knows she is newly living as Amanda. I was completely captivated reading this, and I really wish this story was around for me to read when I was younger. As I’m reading a lot of YA lately, I’m amazed and very pleased to see so many incredible books that are touching on real, important topics. The book is also based on the author’s personal experience.

4. Holding up The Universe by Jennifer Niven: I was SO excited to read this and expected a lot from it, as I had recently read All The Bright Places and it was amazing. This book definitely doesn’t disappoint. Jennifer’s writing style is SO great. It’s warm and detailed and her characterization is incredible. The main character Libby is one of my favourite characters of all time.  Narrowly described, It’s an atypical love story about a girl who was previously named “the fattest teen in America’ at over 600lbs and a boy who has a neurological condition where he cannot recognize faces. Really, the story is heartbreaking and special and so important in exploring what it’s really like to see and love people for who they are.

5. The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins: I liked this a lot - although it maybe wasn’t quite as amazing as it was hyped to be? I like psychological thriller’s a lot and I enjoyed the main character Rachel but I also didn’t find the ending to be exceptionally shocking? Still great though. I may like it more if I re-read it down the line. I always find the book better than the movie so I’ll be interested to find out if I like the film. (I actually forgot I read this when I first made the list, oops, sorry Paula, I liked it!)

🌟 PLUS FICS!!!!! 🌟

I haven’t been reading as much fic recently as I normally do because I’ve been trying to focus on writing but I read some lovely things this month. I’m always so impressed and amazed at the incredible talent in this fandom.

I got a question about why I always draw Harry & Hermione as white and it comes down to how I’ve personally been imagining them, and how I started trying to depict that in my drawing since becoming gradually more happy with my style/work a few years ago.

I love seeing other people’s renditions of characters - partly why I like Wizarding Wednesday a lot - and I think Burdge has some of my favourite hp character designs like here and here and here - they just look full of feeling and perfect. Like any drawings with heart in them do, really.

But the question got me thinking about how having always done it one way before is no reason for not drawing them however I want in different ways at different times. So here’s a little third year Hermione, glowingly happy with her new cat.

The girl with long hair and makeup dressed in short shorts, cropped tops, high heels, skirts and dresses was me. I was never comfortable with those things but I forced myself to become an ‘ideal straight girl’. My image meant a lot to me and keeping up with this appearance wore me down physically and mentally. I wasn’t happy with myself and how I looked because I knew I was hiding who I really wanted to be. The girl with short hair and no makeup dressed in polo shirts, ripped jeans, baggy Ts, shorts, and Jordans is me. I came out to my parents on December 31, 2016 and I haven’t looked back since. I chopped my hair off and bought new clothes that finally fit my real style. I’m happy with who I am and who I have become. This journey is barely beginning and I’m looking forward to what it has in store

I really like your particular style - the way you focus on series. You've become one of my FAVORITE blogs on this website

That seriously makes me so happy to hear that. I love writing for this blog and I really do try with every series, so to be one of your favorite really just makes my day. So thank you for your kind words, they really mean a lot!

Hi Anon-san! I started drawing since I was a kid ^^ My drawing’s skill still needs a lot of practice too so never stop practice drawing \(^◇^)/ but I am happy that I can inspire you to draw (*´▽`*) Maybe you can try to draw your favorite character from your favorite manga first, also drawing everyday can improve your drawing skill faster then someday you will develop your own style ╰(*´︶`*)╯Thank you so much for liking my drawing! Hindsight: The Consequences of Retro Art Styles

The past couple years have seen indie games booming, and huge success in retro throwbacks to the early days of gaming. Simultaneously, pixel art has become increasingly popular for indie developers, the retro crowd, and even charming newer modern day gamers. This has lead to a huge influx of pixel art indie games hitting Steam Greenlight in recent times, unfortunately resulting in an over-saturation of that market.

Like any style, pixel art has its pros and cons. What makes it so popular for small developers? In comparison to traditional art, it’s fast and easy. Really easy. This is great for solo devs or teams that may not have the skill sets required for high quality production. This was my case while creating Pixel Star.

Early in development, things were incredibly smooth. Being simple white “wireframe” pixels, nearly all the ships and enemy sprites were completed in a day. This gave so much more time to focus on gameplay, special effects, etc.

Fast forward six months, the game is done and ready. Greenlight here we come!… but wait, we need a video trailer! This is the first stop on the rocky road of difficulties that begin to emerge from the fallout of pixel art. While I was lucky Pixel Star’s flashy colorful particles and lasers lent well to video, I see many less intense pixel games suffer from drab, boring trailers.

Stop #2 on the rocky road is creating promo material to be used in press emails, greenlight assets, etc. This was a big challenge for Pixel Star because, unlike video, the style doesn’t lend as well to screenshots. Having engaging, eye catching promo material is one of the most important things!

Finally, the most difficult thing is creating assets with very specific requirements. Nearly every website and storepage has their own non-standard image resolution needs. Pixel art is extremely hard to scale to many various sizes, as you can only work in multiples of 2 without getting awful distortion. Size isn’t everything though. Steam trading cards also tend to need a certain type of look. Many devs pull shots straight from in-game or use concept images, but if you’re using pixel art this tactic is nearly impossible to make look right. Also, good luck with wallpapers.

TL;DR - When using a pixel art style, plan ahead and strategize how to form-fit both the game and assets to the world, lest you fall into the Generic Sea. It will save you many headaches down the road.

Pixel pushing is easy at the beginning, but a potential nightmare at the end unless preparations are made far in advance.

Breaking free

I want to talk about breaking free. About having no limits. About not settling, not having one name, one identity, one mode of behaviour. I want to talk about further exploration of oneself by casting aside this idea that as we grow, we become more and more rooted in one way of life. I quote myself from a previous post:

“Although there will always be core personality traits (behaviour which has been reinforced for several years), in my eyes there is no one point where people become ‘finished projects’ where they can only operate with restrictions. While there are consistencies, even these are not permanent.”

Now I want to explore that concept with my daemon. Recently I have really started to question certain traditions in Daemonism. Such as animal-only forms, such as settling, such as your daemon having one name, one gender, one set of particular traits and preferences… Essentially, having one identity and, if you like, generally one style of energy. These feel like restrictions to me. These make me feel like I’m beginning to ‘reduce’ my daemon to a tulpa, and to me, the two are completely different beings.

I find that these traditions do not suit me or help me grow. I feel trapped within this idea that my daemon Jackson is beginning to develop habits. Trends in his behaviour. A lack of freedom. If there is one thing I value and want to embody the most, it is freedom. Flexibility, versatility, transformation. I hate to be rigid, predictable, put into a box.

While there are many areas of my life I can discuss where I strive to apply these attributes, this is a thoughtform and daemon blog, and it is my daemon in particular I want to work with on this.

((Okay so I heard there’s a new moomin series coming out possibly by the end of 2018. I’m REALLY excited about it, I heard it’s going to follow the original style of Tove Jansson. I mean I do LOVE the anime, since it’s a version most of us grew up with, so I guess it’s gonna be a little hard to get used to a new style. One thing I’m gonna miss is the voice acting, because in the anime THEY’RE PERFECT(I’m speaking about the finnish),  however most of the old voice actors are dead :’(

We Need To Talk

I’m a little late to the party, but what the hell- I’ll analyze this episode anyway.

Ever since this episode, What Can I Do has become my favorite song from this entire series, hands down. It’s not just the alluring tone and the style of music that drew me in so close, so much as Rose’s character development in a mere few minutes time.

Rose loved and adored humans to death, enough so that she was willing to put everything on the line just to save a species she barely understood. We didn’t really get to fully comprehend what her exact feelings on this topic were until the episode aired, and we saw that she viewed us differently than we had imagined.

The lyrics to this really tie everything together in a perfect little bow- Rose was with Greg because she found humans to be a fun and interesting people, and this gave her a sort of thrill she couldn’t find from anything else.

Pearl doesn’t find anything special about Greg- based on her reaction to his new and budding relationship, along with Rose’s answer to Greg’s later question, this isn’t the first time Rose has ‘been in love’ with a human. It seems as though her adoration for one person doesn’t last very long, and she moves on to another fairly quickly, continuing a long process, until we get up to Greg. She tells him that he barely knows who Rose even is, and then goes to say they’ll never form as close of a bond as Rose and her share together because of fusion, as well as the time they’ve spent with one another. Pearl then dismisses him as just another one of Rose’s long list of crushes, and leaves it at that.

What I loved most about this episode was that Greg was viewed almost like a plaything in the eyes of Rose- a toy to be looked at, fawned over, and then pushed to the side after a period of time until a newer, more interesting object came along. The thing that gets me the most, however, was the fact she didn’t realize that was what she was doing. She thought she was loving him as any other human being would love another. Her knowledge of caring was different than a regular persons, mainly because she had never truly felt genuine love and affection from another. That is, until Greg came along.

Pearl thought Greg was nothing, that he was merely a simple star amongst the billions out in the universe. Rose was her world, and she couldn’t stand the fact that the one she loved had acknowledged this little speck and cared for it more than anything else.

Greg taught Rose that humans were more than just a source for entertainment and good times, and that we have complex feelings and emotions that are sometimes overwhelming to try and understand.

No, he couldn’t fuse. He could never in his wildest dreams have the unspoken connection that gems have with one another. But up until the very end, he showed her what humanity and love really were.

And that’s what he did for her.

Luke’s style just keeps getting better and better, he keeps gaining more confidence and i’m so happy my rockstar has developed his own sense of style and identity in the last year or so, i’m so proud of him

Anon suggested I try the “draw your functions in the style of Inside Out” idea, so here is my cognitive functions team!

Ni: Team leader and ideas man, everything runs through him first. His analytical genius has led some of his friends to describe him as a magician, but he knows it’s really just a matter of connecting the dots in the right places. Unfortunately this skill often causes him to miss the trees for the forest, or to become fixated on a single idea. However, his abilities to predict future implications and see the flaws in any plan make him a solid leader that can bring his team through thick and thin.

Te: The team powerhouse/tank. Te takes the brunt of what the world throws at the team, absorbing punishment and dishing out just as much. Suffice it to say that when the going gets tough, Te gets going. Ni may be a genius but everyone knows it’s Te that makes things happen. When Ni has a plan, Te knows how to make it happen and has the brawn to carry it out.

Fi: The soul of the team. Fi is quiet and somewhat fragile, most people don’t even notice he’s there; leading them to think that Ni and Te are all there is to the team. Yet Fi knows just how dangerous those two can be when left alone together and it’s his job to stop them going off the rails. He is the team’s moral compass, and his roots run deep, he is small on the outside but massive on the inside. That being said, he can be easily hurt, thankfully big brother Te is very protective. If someone hurts Fi, Te is there to dish it back out to them.

Se: People don’t see Se much, he spends most of his time sleeping; but while he is often left out of decisions, the team knows to call him up when it’s time to have fun and boy does Se know how to party! When Se lets loose on the floor it’s equal parts amazing and terrifying! Unfortunately he suffers from a severe lack of stamina and within the hour he has to be scraped off the dance floor by Ni and Fi, who spend the rest of the night taking care of him while Te looks for the exit.

Harry Styles, the most beautiful human on earth

I’m really more of a Louis girl, myself, but when allegedlymags tells you to do something you do it.  No one wants that drunken wrath, especially because she’ll drag you faster than you can say #ohnoniall. Besides, I can appreciate the beauty that is Harry Styles.  I’m not blind.

Here are my top Harry looks.  It has become apparent that I am enamored with Harry’s hair and it’s many accessories: flowing, bun, hat, scarf, beanie.  Give me them all.

Oh, and I’m tagging iheartallthefandoms because she’ll enjoy the research.

Plus Size Preggo Style

I wanted to share with you all that I’m expecting my first baby girl in 7 weeks!!!! So much has happened this year and it’s hard to put it all in one post. For now, I’ll just share that I’m so happy to become a mom and my perspective on life and love have truly changed for the better!

I wanted to share some personal style tips if you’re a plus size and preggo gal. I’ve had to really find what worked and what didn’t. Everyone grows differently and for me, it’s been mostly my belly, hips and butt.

Here are some styles for work I’ve chose. Mostly fitted dresses (sometimes with leggings), loose cotton pants and stretchy blouses, and ponchos with leggings. I wore works pants with my belly band for a while, but now my butt will not fit into those pants anymore (haha). Try to find leggings without the tight bands for better fit on your growing belly.

My styles for hangouts and being cute yet comfy are maxi dresses and sweaters with layers. I LOVE LAYERING. Summer was harder but once fall hit, I pulled out all my sweater and light jackets for the outfits below. This helps hide some of the lumpiness in your hips you may go through and helps focus on the belly.

Finally wedding season and date nights I thought would be hard because I wanted to buy outfits where I showed by belly but also not look like a whale. I found some great dresses on ASOS, Target and TJ Maxx for the styles you see below. Many of them were empire cut which allowed me to show my legs (which I love) and still play with the bump a little.

Share your preggo style pics with me and I’ll repost! I love to see my curvy girls work it in all stages of their lives.

“They’re just a band” – That is a statement that I have heard non stop for the past 4 and a half years. To some people, they are just a band. But to a lot of people (including me) they were the people we relied on to make us smile everyday. These boys have taught me more about myself and about life in general than any teacher or parent ever could. Harry specifically has taught me a lot in these past few years. He has taught me how to love myself. He has taught me how to love others unconditionally even if they don’t necessarily deserve it. He is kind. He is humble. He is genuine. He is everything I want this world to be and more. So, people can laugh and judge all they want. I don’t really care. I am not ashamed or embarrassed to say that Harry Styles has made an impact on my life and has actually helped me become the person I am today. He is somebody that I am proud to say I look up to and he will always be that person. 1dtattoos

Doctor Who is a bit of a British institution isn’t it? Has playing Clara totally changed your life?

Yes, in ways you wouldn’t expect. My personal life has changed, but it’s what you end up doing on a day-to-day basis that’s really different. The imaginative nature of the storytelling becomes your reality – green screens, running away from monsters and being put on wires and hung upside down. I’ve kind of entered an alternative universe, every time I come back to London I’m hit by reality!

So you’ve worked with two Doctors – Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi – how different are their Time Lord management styles?

It’s funny really – I’d love to see them together as actors because they are both surreal and inventive and have a real fierceness. What I love about them is that they’ll take the scene a certain way, but not be afraid to abandon it and go in a completely different direction just for the hell of it. It makes the work really spontaneous and it makes you a better actor. But saying that, their Doctors are completely different – Matt is like a tornado who dances round the room, whereas Peter makes the room come to him. Peter has something mythical about him – you could believe he’s 2000 years old – no offence Peter!

when cody’s dad bought this car off deanchromier i never expected it to become this majestic ka-t beast (that happened to be dumped lower than everyone else at the track that day). most dad’s just shake their head at lowered cars. papa ross has improved leaps and bounds in a years time, it’s kinda cool seeing an older guy pick up drifting and manage to not only handle the driving aspect but pick up a style all of his own… because really isn’t that what drifting is about? an expression of style

I see so many people making heartfelt posts about how homestuck has influenced their lives and well, I felt like I should make one as well. At least before Homestuck ends.

I read Homestuck in February 2015 and got into the fandom pretty quickly, it was also around the same time I got my first art tablet and Tumblr. Homestuck is what got me passionate enough about art to be practicing almost all day every day, it helped me learn so much about art and styles in almost every aspect of it. But what has really been important to me is that it gave back the possibility/passion/hope of becoming an artist or a creator or a writer or animator in the future. The confidence you guys gave me on something I never even thought possible is something I will be truly thankful for.

Even if it is just a dream I’d like to thank all of you and hope for a great 413!
