One year ago today, Tom Cavanagh, a center who had played for the Harvard Crimson Tide, Cleveland Barons, Worcester Sharks, San Jose Sharks, Manchester Monarchs and Springfield Falcons was found dead in an apparent suicide.
At the time, Tom’s father, an attorney, released the following statement:
“Our son, Tom, was a young man who bravely fought the demons of mental illness for many years. This private struggle far surpassed his public athletic accomplishments. Our family will celebrate and always remember his beautiful but short life.”
Harvard Hockey coach Ted Donato described Cavanagh as such:
“He was one of my favorite players I have ever been around in any facet of hockey, whether playing or coaching. He was just a very unselfish, hard-working team guy who played his best in big games.”
Please take a moment or two today to remember Tom Cavanagh and the people he touched in his short life here on this earth.
