Danes to Danish people: I hate Denmark. Our weather sucks. It’s so cold, our coffee is never warm. It’s always raining. So much snow. I hate it.

Danes to everyone else: once we were Vikings. We’re the happiest country in the world. We drink a lot. We’re strong. Our country is tHE BEST ONE

Norway overtakes Denmark to be crowned world's 'happiest country'

Norway has unseated Denmark as happiest country in the world. The Scandinavian nation beat the three-time winner of the title, having previously been ranked fourth.

Denmark dropped to second place as Norway was named the winner for the first time since the United Nations launched the global initiative in 2012.

The World Happiness Report 2017 ranked countries on six criteria measuring happiness: GDP per capita, life expectancy, freedom, generosity, social support and an absence of corruption in government or the business sector.

“Happy countries are the ones that have a healthy balance of prosperity, as conventionally measured, and social capital, meaning a high degree of trust in a society, low inequality and confidence in government,"Jeffrey Sachs, the director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) that published the report, told Reuters.

"What works in the Nordic countries is a sense of community and understanding in the common good,” Meik Wiking, chief executive of the Happiness Institute in Copenhagen, said.

Iceland, Switzerland and Finland were also ranked in the top five. The US was 14th on the list, while the UK came in 19th place. Sachs said the US had dropped one place due to rising inequality, distrust and corruption. He said that President Trump’s economic measures were “all aimed at increasing inequality – tax cuts at the top, throwing people off the healthcare rolls, cutting Meals on Wheels in order to raise military spending. I think everything that has been proposed goes in the wrong direction.”

Syria, Yemen, Tanzania and Burundi are the least happy of the 155 countries listed in the fifth annual report by the SDSN.

The aim of the report is to provide governments with a tool to improve overall well-being in their country. “I want governments to measure this, discuss it, analyse it and understand when they have been off on the wrong direction,” Sachs said.

Order from Your Commander (part 4)

(A/N: Hey guys I’m soooo sorry for how long this took me to post but I promise I will post more parts soon! Thank you for being patient with me!!! I hope you enjoy!)

Bellamy woke up that next day to loud laughter outside the window beside his temporary bed. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and yawned. He glanced around the room, at Murphy and Miller’s sleeping bodies, at the fire barely burning in the corner, and finally at the window that was letting in bright rays of sunshine. He threw the covers off him and quietly walked to the window. The sun was shining brightly overhead without a cloud in sight. The trees swayed slightly in the light breeze, and in spite of the cold, people were outside playing. He noticed Y/n playing a game of tag with some younger kids and he realized that the laughter had come from her. She smiled brightly and let out another laugh as one of the kids tagged her.

Bellamy wanted to tear his eyes away, but couldn’t seem to. He was mesmerized by the way Y/n’s hair flowed in the wind and the way her eyes glistened as she played with these kids. He admired the way she kept such an optimistic point of view despite everything she had experienced in her life, and found joy in something as simple as a game of tag. He swallowed the lump in his throat and tried to ignore the fluttering feeling in his stomach. He wanted to act like he didn’t think anything of Y/n, other than as the commander she is, and he hated the way he knew he was failing at that. He allowed himself to admit that he thought she was gorgeous the moment he saw her from the bushes and has been thoroughly intimated and slightly turned on by her since she punched Murphy in the face. He’s only known her for two days and already felt connected to her in ways he’s never felt with most of the 100.

National Happiness Day has come and gone, and after a few years of being knocked down from the top, Norway is back at 2017's Happiest Country In the World. According to the UN's happiness quotient, Norway is the better Scandinavian country.

tbh

mention that norway is the happiest country in the world to any norwegian and they would disagree

This isn’t even half of what’s STILL going on in Costa Rica. There’s been traffic for seven hours, because in those seven hours people haven’t left the streets. They are still clapping, screaming, hugging, CRYING. People hug without even knowing each other, they get into other people’s cars and start singing the anthem out of nowhere. They are so proud that people think of them as “the underdogs” because they know that THEIR team proved wrong to everyone who ever underestimated them. And finally they are SO thankful with each and every player because they won thanks to the entire team, but they are sure that the win is for the country itself.

When people say that Costa Rica is the happiest Country in the world, it’s not because we don’t have an army, or war. It’s because we are such a little country, with little people, that all together create happiness just like a big family.

[WEIBO] Korea that has EXO seems to be a happier country

Abnormal Summit invited a special one-day guest from Bhutan on their show.

MC: I heard that Bhutanese are envious of Koreans?

Bhutanese guest: There was once a survey conducted to see if Bhutanese are really happy. (t/n: Bhutan is said to be the happiest country in the world) But our Bhutanese young girls said “Korea that has EXO seems to be a happier place”.

What do you think about the people saying that because bernie sanders is a socialist he will bring us into the state of chaos that venezuela is now experiencing as a result of socialism?

Many aspects of the U.S. are already socialist in nature, including public highways, public schools, social security, the police force, and fire departments. These socialist programs have not resulted in the downfall of the American economy. Quite the contrary, these are some of the most useful and fundamental services that a government can provide. Moreover, many of the happiest and economically-successful countries in the world are quite socialist. Denmark, Sweden, and Germany, for instance, have higher tax rates and socialized healthcare and higher education, along with high rates of well-being and low rates of poverty. So while it’s true that some socialist economic systems have failed, it’s also true that aspects of socialism have proven quite successful. Same goes for supposedly capitalist economies. As Bernie Sanders likes to point out, the U.S. already redistributes its wealth, except it’s from the bottom up. Our crony capitalistic system is rigged to keep the money in the hands of the rich. Maybe this is just laissez-faire capitalism or maybe it’s crooked socialism. Maybe the lines aren’t so distinct. The economist (and avid Bernie supporter) Robert Reich has said that America’s economic system is a bastardization of capitalism, which, he argues, can and should be redeemed. The takeaway of this, to me, is that we should incorporate the best of socialism and the best of capitalism, both of which possess extremely valuable, maybe even invaluable, features. These economic approaches are not wholly at odds and presenting them as such is a false dichotomy. People are prone to false dichotomies and slippery slopes. What’s happening in Venezuela is due to a flurry of complex factors and can’t simply be blamed on ‘socialism.’ So let’s move on from such simplistic characterizations and try to approach these topics with the sophistication they warrant.

How does socialism make a country great? What is great about lazy free-loaders getting the same benefits as those who work hard?

The whole point of socialist policies is to protect the most vulnerable in our society as well as laying down a safety net. Socialist policies are there to look after the elderly, the disabled, the young, the sick and people going through a hard time. Socialist policies also promote free healthcare, free education and a prison system that is based on reform, not punishment (and certainly not profit). Places like Sweden, Denmark & Norway are the most socialist countries in the world, and they’re also ‘happiest’ countries in the world - they also have low crime rates, high education rates and low incarceration rates. Funnily enough, they were also some of the countries that were least affected by the recession.

These countries have high tax, yes. But personally I’d rather have a high tax rate and support people in need than a low tax rate and people unable to get medical care or feed themselves.
