80'lerinde emekli ve eğitimli iki müzik öğretmeni olan Georges ve Anne, ilerlemiş yaşlarına rağmen geride kalan ömürlerini huzur ve mutluluk içerisinde geçiren bir çifttir. Ayrıca kendileri gibi müzisyen olan kızları Eva Avrupa'da onlarda uzakta ailesiyle yaşamaktadır. 

Yaşlı çiftin sakin hayatı bir gün Anne'nin kriz geçirip, boyundan aşağısının felç olması ile altüst olur. Georges sevgili karısına elinden geldiğince iyi bakar ama onun da yapabilecekleri sınırlıdır. Üstelik Anne'nin durumu git gide kötüleşmektedir. Georges çareyi en sonunda iki ayrı hemşire tutmakta bulur. Şimdi onca yıla yayılmış olan evlilikleri, bir kez daha bağlılık sınavı verecektir.
Usta yönetmen Michael Haneke'nin son filmi olan yarı otobiyografik yapımın başrollerini Jean-Louis Trintignant ve Emmanuelle Riva paylaşıyor. 2012 Cannes Film Festivali'nden Altın palmiye ile dönen film baş yapıtlar arasında gösteriliyor.

Sevdiğiniz ya da değer verdiğiniz birinin, karşınızda günden güne tükendiğine şahitlik etmek üzerine, sadakat ve dostluğun anlatıldığı bir film. Sevdiğiniz bu kişiyi iyi hatırlamak ile onunla sonsuza kadar beraber olmak arasında gidip geleceğiniz, ister istemez yaşananlara hak vereceğiniz güzel bir Haneke filmi. 

Aşktan ziyade, vefanın ve de zor durumda kalındığı vakit, artık sizin eski siz olmadığınızın farkına varma anını anlatıyor.
