Gorillaz Animated Series Set To Premiere In 2018

Cartoon Brew reports: Ten episodes of the Gorillaz series will be produced for release in 2018, according to co-creator Jamie Hewlett, who spoke about the project in an interview yesterday.

“I’ll direct the first and the last one,” he told Exclaim, “but we’ll have to get someone in to direct the other episodes. I think even attempting to do it all by myself will kill me.”

Notably, the Gorillaz  crew will all be 2D. Said Hewlett:

“I think it’s a beautiful style of animation. Everybody does cg now, and it is great when you’re making backgrounds, like environments and landscapes, but not the actual characters. I’m still very much inspired by the work of Chuck Jones, and I love that animation. It’s art. I’d like to keep the characters in that style for the rest of this campaign. So the characters on the show will be 2D, but everything else is up for grabs.”

I finally finished this! This is my most recent art journal!

The question we had to answer was: “Are our views of bodily beauty based more on our genes or personal backgrounds?”

The thing we had to draw? “A person you find beautiful.”

So, I drew all of these guys! These are all either friends or role models (or both) of mine! I made this to show my appreciation to all of these awesome people for just doing what they do and being themselves!

Hey folks, Paul here for MOTION MONDAY!

I’m excited about this one–it’s a title reveal I teased back on July 4th, and now it’s ready to show. Here are the stages that went into it:

This was mostly done in Adobe AfterEffects. Main tools included:

  • Masking: useful for the main title’s “sliding visibility” reveal
  • Layer Styles: useful for color overlays and glow effects
  • Particle Effects: adds a little pizazz to the ending flash

And again, big thanks to Caty Carlson (@catycarlson23) for the hand-drawn lightning effects! I absolutely love how they turned out.

If anyone has questions about the process, feel free to message me. Thanks for watching!

“Part of the amazing animation art collection at the @nemoacademy in Florence, #italy is nearly all the original art from the legendary Preston Blair’s How To Animate book! I grew up with this book and it’s what started me on the Animation path! This first page of girls is why I still draw pretty girls. I always wanted to draw like Preston Blair.”
