Prometheus Bound in the Snowy Peaks of the Caucasus, oil on canvas by Francesco Foschi, Italian, 1710-1780.  Last at auction at Hampel, a fine arts auction house in Munich, Germany.

Foschi was known for his winter landscapes and here he combines the cold and barren scene with the familiar myth of Prometheus condemned by Zeus to be bound to a rock and constantly attacked by a large bird. In this case, Foschi chose and eagle.
