halo: infinity

I’m sure aliens have some sort of concept of a never-ending thing, so when they learn about infinity, they aren’t too surprised. But what would they think about everything we do with infinity?

For example, the concept of multiple infinities, with some infinities being larger than others?

Alien: But, aren’t these sets both never-ending? If so, then, this can’t be larger than the other infinity.
Human: Yes, they’re both infinite, but there are more numbers between 0 and 1 than there are counting numbers.
Alien: I dont understand.
Human: So basically, if you were to try and pair the counting numbers with a number between 0 and 1 you’d always have a new decimal even after you’ve exhausted the counting numbers.
Alien: But??? They’re never-ending sets? You can’t exhaust them??
Alien: *exhasperated screeching*

When aliens try to find a reason as to why humans do this with numbers, they get even more confused, because there are humans who believe that all the stuff about infinity is useless nonsense.

Reality Infinity Stone

Color: Red

Abilities: Alters all of reality; similar to the effects of a Cosmic Cube, but much, much higher.

First Encountered: The Aether was used by the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, in particular, by their leader Malekith. Every five-thousand years, the Convergence causes the Nine Realms to become aligned. In 2988 BC, Malekith planned to use this event to release the Aether and plunge the nine realms into eternal darkness; however, the Asgardians intervened and took the Aether from the Dark Elves by force, watching as the race was apparently decimated in battle. Bor then had the Aether hidden away where no one could find it, and over the following five millennia, its story faded from known history.

Current Location: The Collector

How will Thanos get the stone: The Mad Titan will pay The Collector a visit. Collector refuses to give up the Stone so he gets beat up. Thanos then ask where are the other stones holding him by his neck. Collector tells him “The Guardians have the other stone” Then Thanos crushes his neck.

There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There’s .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I’m likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I’m grateful.
