So, we happened to do something huge this weekend at Dragon Con. I proposed to my long time girlfriend, @sinfulmarinette, on Saturday, Sept 2nd, 2017.
We met through Doctor Who. I roleplayed as the Eleventh Doctor and she roleplayed as Clara Oswald. We met each other as those characters so I knew I had to propose to her as those characters and Dragon Con was the place to do it. After a kick of motivation from a friend, @riallasheng, and several others, I finally decided to follow though with it this year. After some thorough sneaky planning, I was able to get the ring box and rings here in time and coordinate with the guy in charge of the cosplay photo shoot so he’d gather a group up together and then call us up to come forward. She had no idea of our plans. It caught her entirely off guard (as well as the others involved in the shoot, as you can see) and it was a huge success. I’m honestly still shocked that I didn’t completely screw up my speech, haha.
And the fact the entire Pond family was there to celebrate with us made it all the more amazing! They all seemed so excited to be part of the event and that made us both feel over the moon.
You could say it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. (Hahaha. Yeah. I had to go there.)
It was wonderful and so was the rest of the weekend. We were surrounded by friends and support and that made everything better. We can’t thank everyone there enough for a perfect engagement weekend!
He came to the conclusion that waiting was the biggest waste one could do with their life.
And he had wasted a lot of his life already.
He had waited for his father to acknowledge him, to show him he was proud of his son.
He had waited for his mother to stand up to his father, whenever he had talked her down, whenever he had treated her like less than his wife.
He had waited for his friends to come to his rescue when he had needed them most, to save him from himself.
And he had waited for the stupid prat to notice him. Really notice him. To look beyond the petty insults and his sneering.
For years Draco had been waiting.
He had waited in vain. But not anymore.
Draco was sick of waiting.
What had he even waited for? For him to come to the right conclusion, when Draco hid his true intentions so well? For him to realise what was really going on?
He probably would have to wait forever.
No. He would have to take matters into his own hands. And whyever should he not?
Yes, it was time to act.
Draco focused on the mop of black hair across the Great Hall.
He was sick of waiting.
He got up, marched over to the Gryffindor table and grabbed Potter by his robes. Without waiting for his reaction, Draco started dragging him out of his seat.
There was a yelp and shouts of protest, but Draco didn’t care.
He was so sick of waiting.
“Malfoy, what are you doing?” Potter shouted, shoving at Draco’s hands.
Draco ignored him and dragged him out of the Great Hall.
He could hear Weasley and Granger shout something at him. He heard footsteps behind him, indicating that several people were following him. Potter was still trying to get out of his grip.
Draco had wanted to find a more secluded place to do what he wanted to do next, but when the shouts behind him only got louder, he turned around and glared at them.
“You want to watch? FINE! I don’t even care anymore!”
He tightened his grip on Potter’s robes as he pulled him towards him forcefully.
Because he was so tired of waiting.
His mouth crashed with Potter’s and suddenly everything went silent.
Draco had thought it would be rougher, that Potter would try to fight him more. Apparently he was just shocked. He stiffened as Draco moved his lips against the other boy’s. He buried his hands in his hair like he had dreamed of so many times.
He had waited for this so long. This was it.
Or was it?
Draco suddenly noticed Potter moving and braced himself to be pushed away at any second. Instead, tentative fingers curled around his hips to pull him closer.
Draco was sure there were gasps and murmuring, but he didn’t hear any of it.
His whole mind, his whole body was so consumed by Potter. Potter, who was kissing him back.
Yes. This was what he had been waiting for all this time.
alright, so as many of you might know, the trump administration “asked” the previous surgeon general to resign. his name was dr. vivek murthy, he was an obama pick, and he was highly qualified, so of course he had to go. presumably, the trump administration will be working to replace him with someone who says abortion and vaccines cause cancer, but smoking does not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ however, in the meantime, this is our acting surgeon general:
her name is dr. sylvia trent-adams, and she is highly fucking qualified. she is the first surgeon general that doesn’t have an md (i.e. is not a medical doctor) but she does have a phd in nursing and a masters degree in health policy. she was the deputy surgeon general before the trump admin booted murthy. she is absolutely the most logical choice to be the acting surgeon general, and she is probably a thousand times more qualified than whatever fuckup trump is going to appoint to the position. so there’s no problem here, right?
hahaha yeah right, guess again. and while some of the criticism seems to be rooted in??? a complete lack of awareness of what the surgeon general does??? (they primarily advise the executive branch and the public on public health issues). a lot of it just seems to be “a NURSE couldn’t POSSIBLY be as educated or informed about medical/scientific issues as a doctor is!!” which is…pretty fuckin ridiculous when you think about the fact that this is a woman who has a motherfuckin phd.
fun fact: the primary reason to get a phd in nursing is because you’re interested in a career in research and/or administration. it’s basically four years (after your four years you spent getting your bsn) of learning about health policy, public health, epidemiology, research, etc. and to suggest that a highly educated woman is the equivalent of an anti-vaxxer, or that she’s unqualified to, you know, sift through peer-reviewed articles in order to make conclusions about health policy, when she probably spent a good portion of her 8+ years of higher education doing just that, is absolutely fucking ridiculous.
people act like there’s no way a nurse could know as much / more than an md about anything remotely health related–even if it’s something that many mds aren’t even trained in, like health economics or wtfever–and it’s just one way that the knowledge and skills of nursing professionals are completely devalued in our society, because nursing is typically viewed as a “woman’s job.”
