chasm opened in the earth and out of it coal-black horses sprang,
drawing a chariot and driven by one who had a look of dark splendor,
majestic and beautiful and terrible. He caught her to him and held her
close. The next moment she was being borne away from the radiance of
earth in springtime to the world of the dead by the king who rules it.”
But imagine Hades, the God of the underworld, the mighty and powerful seated on a throne of skulls handing out punishment to sinners cowering in front of his dark and fearsome aura and suddenly Persephone skips in the room, humming a bright tune, twirling in her pretty colourful dress and she skips to Hades and places a flower crown on his head and Hades is like ‘Honey, I’m trying to do my job here.’ or 'I have an image to maintain, I’m the God of Underworld!’ and Persephone just smiled cutely at him and pecks his cheek and Hades just kinda sighs because he’s so whipped by his little sunshine but it’s just so hard.
Little Hades&Persephone comic (inspired by a quote from “A Stroke of Midnight”, by Laurell K. Hamilton).
I guess Persephone is the kind of girl who will offer you tea and bake cookies for you and be literally the sweetest person ever, but will fucking rip your heart off your chest if you wrong her or her beloved ones.
Just wanted to do some chara design with these characters
I always really liked the myth of Hades and Persephone when I was younger, it was like a mythological Beauty and The Beast for me. I was a big greek mythology nerd before. Also trivia fact: my name take is root from Persephone first name -the one she had before she came in the underworld- Cora!
If you don’t know this myth it’s the story of Hades god of the underworld falling in love with Persephone -the reason may change, my favorite is that Aphrodite and Eros didn’t like the fact that Hades was such a cold heart refusing to fall in love so they strike him with one of Eros arrow- and kidnapping her. into the underworld so she become the Queen of the Underworld -it’s not the entire story but it’s a bit long to explain-
(i) aphrodite spends her nights stumbling out of bars the hands of unfamiliar men wrapped around her waist. she smells like hard liquor and cigarette smoke. when dusk turns to dawn she’s always the first to leave. always running. It’s better this way, safer this way.
(ii) artemis traded in her bow and arrow for a gun. she still hunts she just hunts a different kind of prey now. she goes out at dusk and comes back home at dawn. bruised and bloody. a few bullets missing from her gun. somewhere buried deep in the body of a man who wore cruelty as if it were a second skin. who did not take no for an answer.
(iii) persephone first saw hades in a club. He was the kind of boy her mother had warned her about. Boys like that her mother had said are nothing but trouble. but persephone had never minded trouble very much. she walked up to him her lips painting a shade of pomegranate and asked if she could buy him a drink.
Tbh I always thought that the whole “I have eaten the fruit of the land of the death” excuse that Persephone gave her mother was kinda convenient so consider this:
Hades “kidnaps” Persephone, but what he’s really doing is helping his real live actual girlfriend escape the clutches of emotionally abusive/toxic mom Demeter (see “I can’t talk to my daughter for six months so I’m gonna mope and make the rest of the world suffer with me”)
Super clingy mom Demeter shows up and demands her daughter come back with her, using her own emotional stability and the fucking FATE OF THE WORLD as a guilt trip
“I would totally love to mom, but wouldn’t you know it, I ate this one pomegranate seed and as a result I’m stuck here forever so you should probs just leave and forget about me because it looks like I’m dead forev–”
Zeus shows up.
“Nah man, as king of the gods I can totes negate the effect of those pomegranate seeds, and let you go back to the real world with your mom.”
Cue frantic head shaking and silent pleads from Persephone & Hades from behind Demeter’s back for Zeus to shut the fuck up man, that is not the plan. Zeus catches on instantly.
“But only for half the year, because, uh the laws of–you know, biology or some shit?”
The goddess of flowers and the queen of hell quietly contemplates what she will plant on Zeus’s grave after she murders him.
Hades requested to judge Percy and Annabeth personally after they died Poseidon and Athena were worried at first, but between Aphrodite’s knowing smile and Persephone reassurances that she would not allow her husband to do anything terrible they agreed, as it turned out the reason why Hades wanted to judge them himself was because he felt that they did so much for the gods that they pretty much lived 3 heroes lives and allowed them into the isles of bless without live three times
they say he stole her,
as if Persephone were only something to be coveted
and not a goddess in her own right,
as if she were not as feared in their realm as he.
they say that he corrupted her,
that Hades’s flower wilted under the stench of his death
but they forget that Spring is rebirth,
that if anyone could be touched by the underworld and flourish,
that it would be her.
they say that he tricked her,
that she did not want to stay.
but they forget how the winter drags on,
how each year it creeps in sooner,
leaving bones aching for a hint of her warmth,
and it is not because he will not let her leave
it is because
she does not want to go.
My interpretation of Hannibal and Will as Hades and Persephone, Alphonse Mucha style. Originally planned for the @hannibalcreative HannibalOdyssey event, but I’m way past deadline since this turned out to be a LOT more complicated/detailled than I’d originally planned.
