You were the only person that stood by him. You were the only person he could talk to. The only person that looked past all his issues and became his friend. He trusted you with hi life and he feels like he has failed you by not holing the end of his bargain. He began drinking excessively and none could stop him.

Ive noticed a lot of fanart of IWTV makes the boys look like girls. its not just one artist its the fandom's thing to draw them w not "feminine" but *female* features. Im a ftm trans artist so ive spent a lot of time looking at how male vs female faces differ and the iwtv fandom draws men with smaller jaws, bigger eyes, softer features, bigger lips, small/arched eyebrows. Besides long hair and elaborate dress the characters dont look female so do u know why the fandom draws them like that?

(1) First of all, I would encourage you to post your own interpretations, share with us how you see these characters, we have an insatiable hunger for more fanart ;]

If your headcanon is different, that’s great! Variety is the spice of life.

(2) In my experience, having been in VC fandom for 20+ years and on tumblr for about 3.5 yrs, yes, I’ve seen a lot of IWTV-era fanart depicting the male characters with feminine features, you may be right about that. But not all of it is.

[^X Louis, Claudia and Lestat, IWTV-era, by @superhiki, who often uses Daniel Tighe as a reference for Louis, and fandom favorite Danila Kovalev for Lestat (and, not pictured here but worth mentioning, Hiki uses fandom favorite Bjorn Andresen for Armand)]

(3) I get the impression from your message that you consider that “fanart of IWTV makes the boys look like girls” is bad/wrong/incorrect. If that’s not your point, I apologize, and you can skip to (4), but if it is your point, please see this post about fandom policing, here’s an excerpt from @spiderladyceo:

“And no matter how well-meaning you are, you don’t get to tell other fans what they can and cannot write, or draw, or enjoy.

When you start telling people what they can create or enjoy, you invalidate the purpose of fandom, and create a situation where instead of free exploration, we have something similar to mainstream media in which certain tropes or topics are not allowed. This limits the free expression, exploration and innovation so highly prized in fandom.

…You don’t get to tell fans how to enjoy fandom. You mind your own path, your write your own fic, you write meta on why x trope is offensive/problematic/bad but you do not tell other fans how to enjoy fandom.”

(4) I don’t quite understand your distinction between “feminine” and *female* features, except that I consider “female features” specifically to mean female genitalia and secondary sex characteristics (breasts). So I’m only going to address “feminine” features.

On that point, “smaller jaws, bigger eyes, softer features, bigger lips, small/arched eyebrows” are not exclusive to female characters. Jason Momoa is a man with BIG EYES, thick lashes, arched brows, big lips, soft jaw, round face,… and I think he is a cis man.

(5) I don’t speak for all the fanartists, but I sent your ask out privately to several fanartists, fic writers, etc., and the general consensus was that if you want to know why a fanartist or writer has made certain artistic choices, you should ask them directly about it and they will answer if they choose to do so.

Some reasons they gave for drawing characters the way they do:

  • Some fanartists have a different idea of what is “masculine” than you do. It just varies, even in people who express their assigned gender, features differ wildly.
  • Anne Rice often describes the characters in feminine and androgynous ways.
  • Many of her vampires were turned young, before developing your idea of “masculine” features, or they never did. Armand was “perhaps seventeen” (TVA) when he was turned and had stopped growing, had not developed masculine features by that time. “My hands are as delicate as those of a young woman, and I was beardless,” (TVA)
  • It was more fashionable for men during the IWTV-era to be fashionable and cultured, the style of which might be considered a little more feminine by today’s standards. See Dandy.
  • Their own aesthetic taste may be inspired by anime/manga. One example is Dany&Dany.
  • Fanartists often use models and actors as references. Many male models and actors have feminine features. One of them, Andreja Pejić, was a fan favorite as Lestat for many years, and she transitioned MTF in 2013.

^[X] fanart of Lestat/Louis by @sheepskeleton based on [X] this picture of Andreja Pejic (left) and Erika Linder (right).

  • Fanartists may have been inspired by movie!IWTV. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt already had somewhat feminine features in the early 90′s, which were enhanced in movie!IWTV. This is one of my fave fanarts of Lestat, and it’s based on Tom’s Lestat:

^X Lestat by *HRFleur is so lovely. And someone commented on it that they think he is handsome w/o looking feminine.

“I don’t think he looks like Tom Cruise. I think he looks better! it’s as if you took the essence of Lestat from Tom and pulled the real Lestat out. He looks as though he’s about to say something sarcastic or perhaps become peevish over something. I like that you made him handsome without looking feminine.”

Feminine Jesus Christ:

  • The idea of drawing men with female or feminine features predates fanart. People depict Jesus Christ with feminine features when there is plenty of controversy about what he actually might have looked like:

^Not my comparison pic, I took it from Janet Carr @ THIS BUG’S LIFE’s post about the Jesus depiction issue. Carr writes that the more feminine Jesus depictions are “actually pictures of Cesare Borgia, son of Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI, and brother of Lucrezia Borgia… Pope Alexander VI had all previous depictions of Jesus destroyed in about 1492, and replaced with images of his son. Henceforth, these have been the images used to depict Christ.”

^Here’s our feminized Jesus and early 90′s Brad Pitt, for comparison. I remember Brad being criticized in the early 90′s by men for looking too feminine. The pic above is from a magazine, the Italian caption is “Blond, blue eyes, beautiful in spite of himself, and with a smile <<capable of reversing feminism 25 years>>.

//end. Sorry for the long post, everyone.

I didn’t put any of that under a cut bc I spent a lot of time on this response and I have found that people will reblog, trying to make a post into a discussion, without reading what’s under the cut. People may still want to try to do that, as this is a social network that encourages discussion, but I’m probably not going to engage any further in this topic. I think I’ve made my point, which is that fanartists draw what they want to draw.

Love How You Hate Me - Sam x Reader

A/N: Part seven! Finally some progress between Reader and Sam. Still fairly delusional in some aspects, but they’re going to figure it out. ;) Hope you all enjoy!

Warnings: Sexual Innuendos, Quite a bit of violence, Make out session (Finally!)

Word Count: Roughly 3930

You’d moved on as if that night had never happened. As if Sam hadn’t seen your sensitive state. Your composure completely back in place. You hadn’t come back to the room in the middle of the night again, either. The only proof he’d found to know that it had ever happened was a muttered thank you, a light squeeze of his bicep, and a small- shy- smile before you’d moved on. He would have thought he’d imagined it all- including your thanks- if it wasn’t for the way Dean hovered over you. Determined to be there whenever you needed him.

You simply brushed it off. Throwing yourself into the hunt. You’d been the one who located the nest. Figured out that it was a group of females that only fed on males- bringing a whole new meaning to the words ‘man eater’. The one who had identified how many members there were. You were always three steps ahead of him when it came to the case.

The door slammed open with a bang that made you flinch closer to your new ally. Jeonghan tightened his grip on your hand, glaring at the three men – the leader and the vampire twins – who had entered the room.

“Well isn’t that just… a sight,” the leader chuckled.

The twin on the left eyed you as his tongue ran across his lower lip. “There’s something about the way she cowers that I like,” he mused.

“You think?” his brother snorted.

“Something about trembling and untouched necks just feels so right, but I guess that’s just a vampire’s instincts. Wouldn’t you agree, my prince?” the first tilted his head as he asked, and you caught a little glint of red from a small stud in his ear.

“Not at all,” Jeonghan growled, “draining humans left and right to drink – is that what a vampire does? It sounds more like someone with the Sang Virus if you ask me.”

You had heard of the Sang Virus before. It was not as much of a virus as it was infection, however, as it could not be caught, only contracted. True vampires were born vampires, either from two vampire parents or from a vampire and a human as the vampire gene was dominant. Vampires could be created as well, but only through a very specific ritual. Then there was the Sang Virus, which was contracted when a human was turned into vampire by merely consuming a vampire’s blood while still human. People with the Sang Virus were no longer people, but monsters who killed indiscriminately.

“If I had the Sang Virus, then she wouldn’t have made it out of the street. I’m just as pure-blooded as you,” the studded twin smirked.

“So what, to prove you’re a real vampire, you waited until we were here?” Jeonghan scoffed.

“That doesn’t sound like an awful idea.” The studded twin grinned, showing off his already elongated fangs.

“I think what my brother is trying to say is-” The other twin latched onto your upper arm and dragged you towards him. You tried in vain to keep your grip on Jeonghan, but his fingers slipped through yours. You were pushed into the studded twin’s side. His hand wound through your hair and pulled your head back, exposing your neck.

“He’s thirsty,” he finished.

“No!” Jeonghan lunged to his feet, ready to murder the man holding you, but the other two held him back. You struggled in the vampire’s grip, trying to angle your head so that you could see the prince. However, the best you could see was a blurry image of his upper body out of the corner of your eye.

“Oh, come on! It will be fun seeing how the humans react to the news that the Crown Prince killed his own mate, a defenseless little human who never even got to graduate college,” the twin holding him laughed. The other twin lowered his head to your neck, inhaling as he did so. You thrashed in his arms. He looked up at Jeonghan with hooded eyes.

“Oh, how could you stand not biting her? Her scent, it’s so delicate, yet spicy at the same time – enough to make a vampire betray his mate to get a taste. It’s a pity you’ll never get to try,” he said. Jeonghan yelled. He did not even try to form words, but he felt anger clouding his mind. He wanted to rein it in and figure out what to do calmly, with a cool head. There was nothing more dangerous or volatile than a raging vampire.

You were still struggling when the man broke the skin. You had always been under the impression that vampire bites hurt, but this was worse than anything you could have imagined. Tears immediately pricked at your eyes. Once in third grade, when your teacher had been showing the class a sample of dry ice, a boy had had the bright idea to touch it, and within seconds he had been on the ground, crying because the ice had “burned him.” This was the only thing you could relate the feeling of being bitten to. The area around the punctures burned, but none of it was hot; rather, it was too cold. You tried to scream, but all that came out was a strangled whimper.

All of a sudden, the burning stopped as the man pulled back, and it was replaced by a duller pain that throbbed throughout your throat. You nearly fell to the ground when the vampire holding you switched your positions. With his hands gripping under your arms and away from his body, it was almost like he was holding you out to shield himself. You tried your best to see what had happened, but your vision had started to become hazy. You could just make out the sight of Jeonghan making his way over to the both of you, or, at least, you thought it was Jeonghan. This man looked different. He was just as beautiful, and his hair was still long, but it was a bright scarlet that matched his eyes, completely unlike the familiar brown of Jeonghan’s. And whereas, in the last state you had seen him in, Jeonghan would have run to help you, this man’s steps were slow, deliberate. You could have sworn you even saw a smirk paint his lips.

However, none of that was what actually shocked you. No, it was the little swirls of fire that curled up into the air with every step the man took. Similar flames danced in the air around his fingertips. Confused, you looked around for the other two men that had been holding Jeonghan, but all you could find were two little piles of ashes where they had stood.

“I would advise you let go of my bride,” the man purred. That was funny, you thought, he sounded just like Jeonghan, only if Jeonghan were like what people used to think vampires were like.

“T-Take her!” You were shoved forward into the newcomer’s arms. You tried to hold yourself up by grasping onto his shirt, but your knees refused to work properly. The man caught you around the waist to keep you steady. You heard the vampire who had attacked make a run for the door and felt a blast of heat blow past you only a second later.

“Now.” The man hoisted you up so that he held you bridal-style. “Shall we go, my princess?” He smiled down at you, seemingly not even caring that you were staining his pristine white shirt red with your blood.

“Where… Where’s Jeonghan?” you managed to ask.

The man let out a laugh. “I am Jeonghan.”

You were too weak to question it, choosing instead to focus on the flames that came so close to licking your skin but never quite made it. Everything was warm. Everything was warm, and you felt safe. You allowed your head to rest on Jeonghan’s shoulder. Too tired to look anywhere but the bottom half of his face, you could just barely hear the crunch as he walked through something sandy – ash, maybe. He glanced down at you, his scarlet eyes crinkling up with his smile. He shifted so that your foreheads touched.

“We’ll be home soon, don’t worry,” he said.

You made it to building’s exit before you finally gave in to the call of sleep.

You were cold again when you woke up, except it wasn’t a regular kind of cold. It was more like when you were still at a comfortable temperature, but you had just lost the perfect warmth that had the ability to make you happy all by itself. If you had to guess going off of the last thing you could remember, you were probably in a bed at the palace. You stretched and started to sit up, but a pain that shot through your neck and shoulder stopped you.

“You shouldn’t move yet!” a woman said from your left. You opened your eyes and looked to see whoever it was. Your lips parted in surprise.

“Princess Jieun,” you murmured.

“That’s me,” she chuckled. Yes, that definitely was her. Incredibly beautiful, it was only right that she was a member of the royal family – Jeonghan’s older sister, to be exact. Being female had excluded her from the line of succession, but she still lived in the palace with her husband. She seemed genuinely kind, and she made you feel at ease.

“Do you remember what happened?” she asked gently.

“Of course I remember. It was a little significant,” you huffed, then winced. “Sorry, I just… Yeah.”

“No, no,” Jieun grinned, “you shouldn’t apologize. Actually, it’s good if you aren’t so passive. You have to fight our little prince sometimes. Being Crown Prince isn’t that great for one’s ego and all that.”

You breathed out a small laugh in reply.

“You don’t have any questions at all? Not even where Jeonghan is? He should be here soon. He had a meeting he couldn’t get out of, or else he would have been here when you woke up,” she continued without waiting for a response, as though she was scared you did not actually care about his location.

“I do have one question,” you admitted.

She looked at you expectantly.

“Was it really Jeonghan who brought me here? He said he was Jeonghan, and he looked a lot like him, but he had red hair, and there was fire…” you trailed off.

“Ah.” She nodded. “He told us about that. His emotions were running high, so his full vampiric side came out.”

“Full vampiric side? But isn’t he already a true vampire?” you questioned, your interest piqued.

“We all have one. The original vampires were a little different from what we look like now, so when our full vampiric sides come out, our appearances change to match it,” she explained.

“Wait, vampires used to be different?” You furrowed your eyebrows.

“See, the original vampires were much less like humans, and would kill for blood without mercy – at least until they found their mate, that is. Their powers would manifest around them – like the fire you saw around Jeonghan – no matter what the situation, so it was impossible for them to blend in with the human population. One vampire eventually ended up with a human soulmate, and the child they had together was still a full-blooded vampire, but it appeared to be a very beautiful human the majority of the time. However, when the child’s emotions grew to a certain intensity, the original vampire form took over. It was almost an alternate personality, which today we call the full vampiric side.”

It was a lot to take in.

“I’ve never heard any of this in my classes,” you said

Jieun blushed a little. “It’s kind of a private thing, actually. It really only comes out when we’re children or if it has to do with our mates, so we decided that humans didn’t need to know about it. When we’re adults, our emotions run the highest when our mates’ safety’s threatened, or if things get intense… in the bedroom.” She coughed at the end out of awkwardness.

“Oh.” Now you were blushing. “I see. Isn’t that dangerous though? Beds aren’t exactly super fireproof.”

“Well, you’ll get to figure that out on your own. Jeonghan is the first vampire in a long time to control fire,” she laughed.

“That’s fun, I guess,” you sighed, “but is it dangerous? Like, what would happen if we were fighting and he switched? I can’t exactly defend myself against a vampire wielding fire, can I?”

“No, you’d be perfectly fine. A vampire’s first instinct is to keep his or her mate safe. Even if he was mad enough to switch, he would never hurt you,” she insisted.

“Funny, not even humans can manage that all the time, and yet we called you the monsters for centuries,” you said.

“To be fair, we did kill your kind for their blood for years,” Jieun countered.

“True.” You curled back into yourself, reminded of the attack. Jieun was about to say something to you, but Jeonghan burst into the room at that exact moment. He hurried over to your bedside, a servant trailing behind him. He kneeled down.

“Are you all right? I never meant to get you into any of that. I can’t believe I let them touch you.” The words spilled past his lips in a rush.

Jieun stood up. “I think that’s my cue to leave.” You waited until she was gone to speak.

“You didn’t let them do anything. In fact, weren’t you the one who stopped them before that guy killed me?” Feeling brave, you reached out to push his hair, which had returned to its normal brown color, out of his face. He leaned into your touch.

“I may have, but it wasn’t soon enough. He still…” he said, but then looked away.

“He still what?” you prompted.

“He was still your first bite,” he mumbled.

“My first bite? I mean, it definitely wasn’t fun, but that’s what you’re upset about, not the fact that I could have died?”

“Of course I was upset about that!” He pursed his lips. “It’s just, the first bite is supposed to be special. I was planning how it was going to go already, and he just showed up and ruined it.”

“That’s what you think about? Biting me for the first time? Please don’t tell me anything else.” You were scared that if he got into too much detail, the situation might turn out to be inappropriate, especially considering this was really only your third time meeting.

“You wouldn’t understand. Everyone thinks about the first time they bite their soulmate. It’s like a bonding moment.” You still didn’t seem to get it, so he stood back up. “You know what, I’m just going to go. We’ve already called your family and arranged for you to move in here for your safety, so your things will be here soon. Junhui here will stay with you while you rest.” He gestured to the vampire boy that had followed him into the room. You eyed the new boy warily before latching onto Jeonghan’s sleeve. You signed for him to come back down to your level.

“I’m sure he’s perfectly nice and all, but I, I just-“ Jeonghan did not let you continue, seeing that you were beginning to panic at the thought of being alone with a strange vampire.

“You want me to stay?” he finished.

“I guess,” you replied. He snorted and climbed into the bed next to you.

“What are you doing?” you hissed.

“If I’m staying, then I’m not going to be just standing around. I can protect you from the monsters better if I’m close. Besides, you’ll have to get used to sleeping next to this perfection anyways. We wouldn’t want you to be too amazed on our wedding night, would we?” he cooed.

“I’ve changed my mind. Get out,” you deadpanned.

“Not gonna happen, Princess. I’ll see you in the evening.” He grabbed your hand, interlocking your fingers just like he had in your cell earlier that afternoon. You tried to pull your hand out of his grasp, but he was too strong.

“Just sleep,” he sighed.

Jieun re-entered the room around seven in the evening after the Prince had failed to show up at breakfast. When she did not see her brother in any of the chairs, she looked at Junhui curiously. He held a finger to his lips, then pointed at the bed. As she drew closer, she could see the two of you curled up under the covers. Not only were you facing each other, but your intertwined hands rested on the pillow between you. She could not help but snort.

“Just allies, my butt.”

CAN YOU WRITE A VAMPIRE HC WHERE THEYRE BOTH VAMPS AND BFS BUT DANS LIKE 5'5 AND PHILS A PUNK AND they get in a argument and dans runs out but goes into another vamps territory and fil saves him ( sorry this I just really want a hc like this)

(Yessssss!! Thank u for saving me) (get yourself some popcorn bc honey this one is loooooooong)

+ Dan and Phil had known each other for a long time. They have been friends since the victorian era, and years and years later they were here not only as friends, but as a couple.

+ All of this was possible because they were vampires, furthermore, immortals. In the past, if it was discovered the pure fact that they were vampires they would of have been hunted down, and vampires plus being gay? Dead only considering it. But now, centuries later, they were together without any problems at all.

+ None, exept their domestic fights.

+ “You know how dangerous it is to taint your blood with even more ink, Phil!” Dan exclaimed , his words coming out slurred as his fangs were longer than usual, intervening with his tongue trajectory, courtesy of being angry.

+ “Oh Dan, shut up, we’ve had this conversation before, that myth is so 1982.” Phil, his boyfriend, rolled his eyes, Dan could be way too paranoid. Some years ago, the rumor that tattoos killed non-human species spread through the supernatural community. It was a fuss, and for Phil, who had a fair share of them, was even worse. His boyfriend was constantly worried, and even after the rumor died, he still did.

+ Don’t get him wrong, Phil loved the fact that Dan worried for him, but the thirty fourth time… Lets say it started to bore him.

+ “Still! You should of at least told me! You know that you tend to get into trouble when you do things without telling me!” The brown haired vampire exclaimed referring to a past event. Phil eyes widened and he felt a frown starting to form.

+ “Oh no. You are not bringing that back, are you? Dan, that was two decades ago!” Phil exclaimed, starting to get angry remembering that situation were he ended up getting a silver piercing with a vampire-phobic that ended up in hours of waiting with a burning ear in the supernatural hospital. Phil cringed only remembering.

+ “Still! That was the time you didn’t tell me, and also the time it all went wrong!” Dan fangs were starting to poke his bottom lips, and they were growing and growing alongside with the heat of the argument.

+ “Well, /mother/, let me tell you that nothing has happened in any of my last appointments at the parlor and-” Phil stopped abruptly and one of his hands went to cover his mouth in reflex. Dan eyes darkened.

+ “/Last/?” The single word lingered on the air for some seconds before he continued, he took a breath and he narrowed his eyes, his muscles were tense, “You been going there more than once? Is it when you suddenly starting going to the gym at night? What else have you been up behind my back, Phil?”

+ “D-dan, wait, I haven’t-…” Phil was frozen, stuttering with every word, and it wasn’t because he did something wrong, because he didn’t. It was just that he wasn’t used to lie to Dan in all the centuries of knowing each other, so whenever he did he became a nervous mess. He just /couldn’t/ lie to the love of his life.

+ “Is that big ass patch you have had for the last two months on your chest a tattoo? The one you told me it was a healing scar?” Dan breath was starting to get labored. There were /never/ lies between them, they knew better than that. He wasn’t used to lie to Phil, and he wasn’t used at all being lied by Phil.

+ Phil was frozen in the spot. He hadn’t been doing anything wrong, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it for some reason. Dan couldn’t be thinking by saying ‘other things behind my back’ of…? Of him-he physically shuddered at the mere thought- cheating, did he? After everything they’ve been through? The thought scared him the same that angered him.

+ “What else have you been doing, Philip?” Dan asked starting to raise his voice, with his hands on his hips he looked up towards his tall boyfriend deep red eyes. “Hanging out with the werewolves gangs? Going to late dives with the angels? Huh?”

+ “For your information, i love you too much to cheat on you!” Phil exclaimed, not really hearing Dan questions. He didn’t miss how his boyfriend eyes widened, and how a pained shade covered his angry stare for a second.

+ “Y-you thought that I thought that you… Cheated on me?” Dan whispered in a pained tone, with his brows up together. Phil then realized his mistake, cheating never passed through Dan mind, he was just genuinely worried. Before Phil could say anything, Dan was already pushing past him towards their apartment door.

+ “Dan, wait!” Phil exclaimed rushing to get to Dan, but the brown haired vampire was having none of it. He opened the door and turned around throwing a harsh glare towards the punk vampire that made him stop dead in his tracks.

+ “Stay there you cold blooded vampire!” Dan growled, even though it wasn’t actually an insult, with one hand on the doorknob. “Im going to go now for a walk because I don’t want to see you, so don’t you dare come search for me, old man!” And with that, he slammed the door shut, running out into the night.

+ “We are the same age…” Phil muttered to himself. He hated the way his chest stung when he thought that Dan normally would laugh at that, but that now he wasn’t even there. His fist met hard against the wall in frustration. “Fuck…!” He was so, so stupid.

+ Outside, Dan wasn’t even paying attention to where he was going. His mind was a rush of emotions. He felt betrayed most of all.

+ How could Phil even consider something like that? The thought of Phil cheating made him gag, he could never think of Phil capable of that. If he rethought his words, it seemed he was hinting them, but that was uncounciously. He really had been only worried.

+ What if the ink rumor was actually true after all this years? What if the tattooist used a silver niddle? What if the tattooist was a vampire-phobe? The tattoo was right over Phil chest, and Phil normally had his eyes closed when he got a new tattoo, in all that time it would be super easy for the guy doing to job to take a wood stake and just-

+ Dan stopped dead in his tracks. He closed his eyes and shuddered. What would happen to Dan if that were to occur? How would Dan keep on living? He just couldn’t. A life without Phil… It would just be unbearable.

+Dan felt tears forming in the corners of his eyes. He wanted to hold Phil so badly. His hands were shaking at the simple thought of living without Phil.

+ He raised his wrist to his face and bit down just to scratch a little. Blood, he needed blood. Vampires blood worked in a weird way. If a vampire drunk his own blood, just a little, it worked as morphine for humans, it calmed them down when they were having a frenzy of emotions, and that’s what Dan needed now.

+ Once Dan felt the effects, he realized he had no idea were he was-a kind of forest?-, and he also noticed-when he tried to turn back and almost falled- that he maybe took a little too much blood from his system, he was feeling dizzy.

+ Dan sniffed the air and smelt someone near, “Hello? I’m lost, could you help-” Dan froze once the silhouette of the person was visible. A strong odor filled his nostrils and his eyes widened in recognition. Fuck. Thay guy was a vampire and he was absolutely /not/ friendly.

+ “Who are you?” Dan heard a rough deep voice ask. Dan had to blink a little to make out his face. He really did drink too much of his own blood…

+ “I w-was just walking and without thinking i ended up in this forest…” Dan stuttered a little, he really didn’t like the situation he got himself into.

+ “Nah… Don’t start with that bullshit… You are a vampire and you /know/ where you are standing,” Dan really didn’t, but now he had an idea. They were super rare, but there where still territorial vampires, those who marked his territory and targeted every intruder as enemies, and of course with his luck he had to stumble with the only one in the zone.

+ “Look, i really don’t want any trouble, point me the way and im off, i swear,” Dan sounded super submissive, but his head was starting to ache.

+ “Oh no… I smell many years on you,” creepy-“so you must know what i am allowed to do to intruders…” He said with a smirk, showing his growing fangs, and /oh freaking mother hell nopity no/.

+ There were only three reasons for vampires to bite other vampires; one, to kill each other (and if you were stupid enough to drink their blood, getting yourself killed too), to seal a lifelong promise, and last… To mark, (which meant the same as mate but that was /way/ too werewolf for vampires it seemed) to claim a vampire as yours. And this vampire in particular didn’t seem too interested in seeing his corpse or sealing a deal, so the only thing left…

+ “W-wait, wait! You can’t! I am already marked.” Dan exclaimed, maybe with a little more pride than he should. Phil and him marked each other once centuries ago one time they thought they weren’t going to make it alive from one situation, but that was a story for another time.

+ The vampire smile fell for a bit, but then grew again even more creepier than before, and Dan didn’t like it one bit. “Oh don’t worry about it, we can just break it then.” He said stepping forward, and Dan instinctively stepped backwards, only to feel a tree pressed against his back. His vision blurred for a faint second, and Dan blinked furiously in order to bring his vision back. If he fainted, it was all over.

+ The myth that a mark could be taken if another mark was made over it was old, and no one knew if it was really truth, but no one really confirmed it, and Dan was sure as hell he didn’t want to discover it either.

+ Panic started to fill Dan when the vampire took both his wrists and pinned him against the tree. Dan eyes widened as he tried to push him away but realized he couldn’t, his blood not only calmed his senses, it weakened him.

+ The vampire eyes sclera turned black as his iris turned a dark red, his pupil dilated into a line and his fangs showed in their full glory as he hissed towards his prey. Dan breath hitched and panic came down at full force towards him, he was about to lose the deepest bond he had with the love of his life. The bond that was supposed to last a lifetime. He was going to become someone’s else that wasn’t Phil. He didn’t want that. He didn’t want that. He didn’t want that. He was Phil’s. He was Phil’s and Phil’s only. Phil. Dan eyes filled with tears and he closed his eyes as a throat wrecking shriek escaped his mouth. “PHIL!”

+ Suddenly the air cooled down drastically. A strong wind blew through the trees and the whole atmosphere seemed to become darker. The territorial vampire noticed this and stopped his actions for a second. He felt a soft tap on his shoulder and that’s when he felt it. A powerful presence right behing him. He shuddered. It was angry. The vampire turned around slowly until he saw him. His eyes widened.

+ A tall-very tall, 6'3 at least- dark haired man, pierced in multiple places, with tattoos covering one side of his neck, eyes red as blood itself, was staring down at him with such hatred, that he was sure that if looks could kill, he would already be burned ash on the floor. He gulped once and that’s when he heard him speak.

+ “Get. The fuck. Away. From my. Boyfriend.” Dan eyes widened as he recognized the voice of his lover, tears of relief already forming in his eyes, but before he could say anything, the punk lifted his fist and punched the vampire squear in the jaw with such a force that crack could be heard.

+ That wasn’t the end of it, as when the vampire fell to the ground because of the punch, the man quickly followed and straddled him and started punching him, hit after hit, not giving him a second to fight back.

+ “You are lucky-” hit “i got here,” punch “before you did anything-” he picked him from his shirt collar “-or else-” he growled bringing him closer so he could stare right into his eyes, “you’d be… Dead!” He moved his head backwards to then bang his head hard against his, knocking him out.

+ Phil dropped the uncouncious vampire to the ground and stood up, he cleaned the blood on his knuckles over his jacket and looked once down to the vampire. “Territorial creatures lost their rights 37 years ago, asshole…”

+ Phil then quickly turned around to see a Petrified Dan staring at the uncouncious vampire with wide eyes, his eyes slowly shifted towards Phil form and the punk face softened, he didn’t need to be told what to do.

+ He ran towards Dan and without saying anything he picked him up bridal style and started heading towards their apartment through big jumps-thanks to vampire habilities-, “Breath baby, it’s okay, i got you.” Its been a long while since Dan last panic attack, but he still knew what to do. “You are still mine, I’m still yours.” That’s when he felt Dan breath right and curl into Phil embrace.

+ “Phil…” Dan voice broke and he nuzzled into Phil’s neck. The punk felt something wet on his neck and he tightened his hold on Dan before speeding up.

+ Once they got to their apartment, Phil left Dan crying form on the couch and turned to get a glass of water, but Dan took hold of his wrist and pulled him towards him before putting his arms around his waist and hugging him hard.

+ Phil just smiled and let him be. “Mine.” Dan muttered against Phil shirt. Phil smiled and kneeled so he was face to face with his lover and joined their foreheads together. That’s the first time Phil allowed himself to breath properly. “Yours.” He whispered back closing his eyes shut as he felt tears forming too.

+ He moved his face to the crook of Dan neck and nuzzled where the he marked Dan all those years ago before he started nibbling softly the spot. Dan relaxed with a sigh at the familiar gesture.

+ When Phil first felt his own mark sting a little, he dismissed it with Dan just feeling way too conflicted with his feelings, but when the stung became proper pain he started worrying because he knew Dan was in danger. Then he didn’t waste any more seconds and rushed out searching for his lover. Then the mark pain became almost unbearable and Phil started panicking, because that meant that not only he was in danger, but that also their bond was threatened. That’s when he heard Dan shriek and he swore he had never moved so fast. He had been so, so scared.

+ He inhaled into Dan neck. He was safe now. He raised his head and met those brown eyes he loved. His eyes were back to blue now that he was calm. Without anymore words, both their eyes shut and they joined their lips with force. Phil hand went to the back of Dan neck to pull him closer while Dan’s tangled in Phil hair doing the same.

+ Once they pulled away their foreheads were still touching and their eyes were closed, just enjoying each other presence.

+ “Let’s not fight about something so stupid again, yes?” Dan muttered. Compared with everything that had happened to them in the huntings back in the victorian days this was just so ridiculous. Not worth losing each other at all. Phil snorted quietly and nodded.

+ “Want to see the reason we fought?” He asked opening his eyes, Dan did the same and nodded pulling away from Phil so that he could take his shirt off and show him.

+ Once the shirt was off, Dan could see that the patch was even bigger than before and he raised his eyebrows in surprise. It started a little over Phil collarbone and ended right over Phil nipple.

+ “You sure you can take that off?” Dan asked and Phil shrugged. “What’s the worse that could happen? Die?” Phil said starting to take it off, and Dan was about to tell him off for the inappropriate joke until he saw it. Dan felt his breath hitch in his throat.

+ Surrounding right were Dan mark was on Phil neck, branches with forming roses were growing and falling down, where the bush became even more prominent until they were a lot of roses one over the other, and right in the middle of his pectoral there was a heart peaking from the flowers.

+ “I’ve been planning getting this one for years, i just couldn’t think of the right design until some weeks ago. I couldn’t do it in only one appointment as it was bigger than my other tattoos, and I wanted to make it a surprise for you, that’s why i made more shorter appointments to not rise too much suspicion, but… Well, It didn’t work out too well…” Phil said scratching the back of his head. Dan couldn’t stop looking at it, but it wasn’t the tattoo that caught his eye, but the quote underneath. He brought a finger to caress it making Phil flinch a little as it was still sore.

+ “Phil… It’s so beautiful…” Dan said looking up where Phil was watching him with a fond smile. He took Dan hand that was touching and pressed it against the tattoo, it stung but it was okay. “It’s for you,” Phil answered, and Dan couldn’t contain the smile because he knew it.

+ Face grinning like the mad, he threw himself over Phil making them both fall to the floor and kissed him hard, earning the same response back. “I love you,” he said against Phil lips. “I love you too,” Phil answered before they kissed again, after a while taking things even further.

+ That night, after Phil fell asleep on their bed, cuddling naked with his equally naked boyfriend, Dan stayed up a bit more, face pressed to the un-tattooed part of his boyfriend chest, while his hand traced the new tattoo at the other side. He felt a smile tug his lips as he read the quote underneath the roses over and over again, after a while, sleep finally started to win him, and with one last smile, he remembered the quote that was based on the words he once said centuries ago once again.

+ “You make my heart beat again.”

Another in Cassandra Jean’s lovely virtues and vices series! Maureen, representing gluttony - feasting on human blood in this case, as Maureen, being a rogue vampire, stuffed herself on human blood in CoLS and CoHF.  According to Thomas Aquinas, gluttony was inordinate desire that left the state of reason.

Question about Maureen:

I’ve gotten a few messages lately questioning how Maureen was able to kill Camille, because Maureen was a young vampire and Camille was an old and “powerful” one. I’m guessing because everyone’s seen Maureen as she’s cast in the TV show and she’s much older than book Maureen, so people are confused - usually when I get a lot of questions about the same thing at once it’s because someone’s discussing it somewhere.

I think part of the confusion is also that vampires in the world of TMI differ from vampires in other popular books and movies. The vampires of the Shadowhunter world grow more wily with age, but their physical strength doesn’t continually increase as they “live” longer as vampires. It increases dramatically right when they get Turned, but it stays level after that. When we talk about an old, powerful vampire, we aren’t talking about their ability to use brute force. We’re talking about vampires who have honed their manipulative powers, become great strategic thinkers, acquired wealth and connections.

Camille got by on her wits for most of her life. She was a skilled manipulator, as we saw from her involvement with Alec, but she was thrown off her game by the time of the events of City of Lost Souls. She lost her support system in the previous book, and she was hiding alone in the subway tunnels. Camille was de-powered, struggling to get by. She wanted Alec to kill Raphael so that she’d have someplace else to go, a clan to belong to again. She was in rough shape by the time Maureen killed her.

I was talking this over with Cassandra Jean when she drew this picture of Maureen and she was surprised when I told her it was something people didn’t believe could happen. She said, “Crazy beats big, right? It’s a saying.” (Apparently yes, as I got 50 million hits on Googling it.) And while the phrase itself is not something I would say, I understand the general import: Maureen wasn’t a regular young vampire when she killed Camille. She was unhinged, out of her mind, feral, and completely detached from reality, and therefore had nothing to lose: Camille was undone by her own disbelief and surprise at being attacked and by her lack of preparation, and perhaps even by her expectations.

Getting older in TMI world doesn’t make vampires stronger, but drinking human blood does. Most vampires, because of the Accords, get their blood from blood banks or feed briefly on humans without harming them. Maureen, on the other hand, was tearing her way through the city, murdering dozens of humans and drinking their blood. Before she took down Camille, she murdered an adult Praetor Lupus werewolf — Jordan’s roommate. There’s quite a lot of buildup in City of Lost Souls regarding just how feral and murderous Maureen is.

1) “This is not about him,” said Raphael. “It is about the rogue vampire, Maureen Brown.”

“Maureen?” Maia exclaimed. “But she’s only, what, thirteen?”

“A rogue vampire is a rogue vampire,” said Raphael. “And Maureen has been cutting quite a swath for herself through TriBeCa and the Lower East Side. Multiple injured and at least six kills. We’ve managed to cover them up, but …”

“She’s Nick’s assignment,” said Praetor Scott with a frown. “But he hasn’t been able to find a trace of her. We may need to send in someone with more experience.”

2) “If she were with Camille, she would not be killing at the rate she is,” said Raphael. “Camille would prevent her. She is bloodthirsty but she knows the Conclave, and the Law. She would keep Maureen and her activities out of their line of sight. No, Maureen’s behavior has all the hallmarks of a vampire gone feral.”

3) Jordan was now standing in the middle of the living room, white-faced, with his phone forgotten in his hand. Maia could hear a tinny, distant voice coming from it, saying his name.

Maia dropped the menu and hurried across the room to him. She took the phone out of his hand, disconnected the call, and set it on the counter. “Jordan? What happened?”

“My roommate—Nick—you remember?” he said, disbelief in his hazel eyes. “You never met him but—”

“I saw the photos of him,” she said. “Has something happened?”

“He’s dead.”

“Throat torn out, all his blood gone. They think he tracked his assignment down and she killed him.”

“Maureen?” Maia was shocked. “But she was just a little girl.”

“She’s a vampire now.”

Maureen may have been small, but she was a ferocious vampire. People focus on the fact that she was physically little, but when there is magic present, that often doesn’t matter. Most vampires are not like Maureen, because most were not Turned like Maureen was Turned. When Simon was killed, Raphael took over what happened: Simon was buried in dirt, not a coffin, and Raphael was there to feed him and teach him when he rose.

Maureen was murdered by Camille and left to be buried. She woke up in a closed coffin that she had to claw her way out of. She had no idea she was dead. She woke up starving and not knowing why, terrified and out of her mind. She became completely insane in a way that has no exact correlate in human experience. And this was Camille’s fault. She could have properly cared for Maureen if she wanted her to become a vampire, but she didn’t. There’s a reason Maureen hunted Camille down. Camille made her what she was. Camille’s death was her own fault and her own guilt, coming home to roost.

From a storytelling perspective, the whole idea of Maureen as a character was to upset the balance of power. I didn’t want to write a story about a head-to-head vampire duel for political power in CoLS because it seemed the predictable thing to do (and I always knew Raphael was going to be kidnapped in City of Heavenly Fire, so really, what would have been the point). Maureen existed to disrupt that trope, to shift the power into the hands of someone who, when the events of City of Heavenly Fire came to pass, might conceivably side with Sebastian, who wouldn’t just run away (so not Camille) and who Maia would be willing to kill (so not Raphael.)

Also, there’s something just compelling about the idea of giving so much power to a child — Maureen is young enough that she tips toward much of what we find essentially fascinating about the dark side of childhood: the self-absorption, the amorality. But that’s a whole other post. In the meantime, enjoy Cassandra Jean’s lovely art!

Family of the Stray

Here is a short part 5 to the ficlets nobody asked for. Stray Vampire Natsu strikes again.

Happy Halloween!

Parts 1-4

Lucy figured she should know better by now. After all the learning experiences and the debunking of myths, she of all people should keep an open mind and heart. After all, she had spent most of her life battling the stereotypes pitted against her. Who was she to pin them on others?

In the movies, it was normal to see vampires living in caves, coffins, and abandoned mansions. It was normal to fear them. After all, their main diet was human. The darkness was their ballpark and humans weren’t even contenders in the game.

Lucy expected to see sinister sneers, dark clothing, and dreary decor.

She expected to see dead mice and human bones; coffins as far as the eye can see.

A warehouse wasn’t where she expected a coven of vampires to be crashing. It was a large, pasty white warehouse like any other in the industrial park. On occasion, she often jogged past it on the days she dragged her ass out of bed and actually exercised.

But yes, a warehouse full of blood-suckers was evidently the case and Natsu was a proud member.

She figured she was a pale comparison to him, meekly following behind him as he marched into the place like he owned it, his mouth bellowing out greetings that echoed around.

He told her he just needed to pick up a few things before they went to the movies, not draw attention to how she was a walking blood bag. Even now, the bristling on her spine was not to be ignored as the feeling of eyes stuck to her skin. Natsu’s self control had proven to be stellar but her trust in him didn’t apply to the rest.

Her thoughts stuttered when she walked right into Natsu’s back. “Ow, Natsu.” she said, rubbing her nose as she peered around him, “What have we talked about with the sudden-”she paused, taking in the individuals in front of them.

The red-head was exceptionally beautiful, her skin like sculpted ivory and her outfit of the finest silks. Her eyes were sharp, however, Lucy shivering at how they seemed to strip her down to her very soul.

There was a black-haired man, onyx eyes also picking her apart like she was food: although she technically was. His lips frowned when he turned to look up at Natsu, almost disgusted. “Dude, you’re late. We were waiting for ages!”

In front of her, Natsu bristled. “Not my fault! Lucy takes forever to get ready!”

“ I have a request for a deanxreader where she gets taken by vampires and gets bit. and dean blames himself but then sam finds a cure. thanks :) “

A/N: I had fun writing this! Not something I’ve done before, so I hope it’s OK. My only warning is language, since I curse a lot.

Word Count: 2050))

The hunger.

You felt it before anything else. Before the sounds that threatened to burst you open, before the light that felt as though it might bore a hole in your skull, before any of it. You felt a horrid desire to consume, and you had no idea what it was you wanted.

Until your eyes opened.

It was a decision taken in mutual agreement sometime ago. Rostam did not want to have the weight of the tour and he needs more time to produce and write new music. On second thought, even in the band’s early years, he did not want to tour.

I am a big fan of his and I am glad that he will be able to make more records. He has already published some incredible songs.

Actually I didn’t know that he will announce (his departure from Vampire Weekend) that day. He sent a text message to my US phone the day before, but since I was in London, it was not on. When I turned on the phone, I saw that there were all these messages from sad people and I had no idea what had happened. I spoke with him and he seems happy, and that is the most important thing.
