“—so Gracie puts this flower in my hair and she tells me I look pretty and if I love her I’ll wear it all day, and I think, Great, I think, Greatness, because this is my day off and no way would Steve McGarrett show up at my door on my day off, right, Steven?”
As active as Danny’s imagination was, however, as strong as all his fears could be at the thoughts of his little girl being taken away from him again, he’d forgotten to factor in one very important element: Steve.
Steve’s letter addressed simply to ‘Danno’ in 2x20 is a beautiful McDanno moment…
We all know why Steve had to be written away somehow in some episode at the end of season 2… Luckily H50 writers have done a great job with the story and, even more important, after this absence we got Alex back healthy :)
I think Steve wrote the letter instead of telling Danny in person he was leaving because he absolutely wanted to do this dangerous thing alone, but he knew Danny wouldn’t have left him going anywhere to risk his life alone… not after North Korea…
We can see how Danny is not happy at all reading those words… and from now to the moment he’ll get Steve’s call from Japan, we’ll have several moment showing us how worried Danny is… 'like a cheerleader’s father on prom night’… and him being the father of a young cheerleader he knows what he’s talking about ;)
As he knows that Steve did it because he didn’t want anyone getting hurt because of him… Anyway, this was probably the last time Steve has ever done something without first talking with Danny :-}
