I thought I couldn’t be more attracted to Kate, but then I was watching the alternate scenes and she started ad-libbing a run of biologically accurate information on voles. (Technically there are two vole species that occur in New York, but they wouldn’t be in an urban setting, no, and I’m not sure I’ve heard ‘super-multiplier’ itself in an ecological context, but it’s definitely applicable and appropriate.)
Maybe she was able to pull this out of her head, maybe she knew this line was coming and did some quick research beforehand, either way, there’s video of her speaking my scientific language and I love it.
1. You look at a map of a city you’ve never been to.
You see patterns and street names and they tell you nothing. The map remains dead, the city unknown.
2. You go to the city you’ve never been to.
It becomes a city you know.
3. You look at a map of a city you’ve been to, but have left behind. As you look at the map, you remember.
You are looking at nostalgia. You walk through street names and remember the taste of cake in the café whose name you forgot, but you remember its yellow walls and comfy chairs. A square is no longer four lines on a map, but an open space with people and statues and laughter and a fountain in the center. The monotonous, two-dimensional blue that indicates an ocean turns into postcard memories, so many shades of blue and green and the smell of salt and fish. The famous building with the famous name that everyone knows is now a personal experience, it is yours and yours alone in a way that will never make it anyone else’s. A billion feet have walked these (now familiar) paths and two of them were yours. You can trace the steps you have taken and you remember feelings and colours and strangers who offered you a smile. There is the hostel you slept in, there is the river you crossed so many times, there is the corner where you listened to the most amazing street musician. You fondly whisper street names that you had trouble pronouncing when you first spoke them, clumsily. You connect dots, and they turn to images in your head.
The map is alive, the city an old friend.
4. The map you look at is always the same; the perception is different. It is you who has changed.
p.s. // every time i look at a map I have a feeling that is hard to put into words
Hello everyone! As the year comes to an end, I would first like to thank all 600+ of you who have followed me! I have only had this blog for a few months now and it really means a lot that so many people have helped this blog grow. The Stranger Things fandom is one of the nicest ones out there and I wanted to make a list of the blogs who I love following and help make this fandom what it is! ♡
For the 5 ficlet, how about percabeth and the five times one of them tries getting a pet?
Percy was six years old when his mother took him to the aquarium for the first time. Sally and Gabe had gotten married a few months ago and things at home hadn’t gone the way she planned, but she finally managed to save enough money to take Percy out to a nice place.
Percy was more than happy to visit the aquarium, even though he wasn’t sure why he was hearing voices calling him “Lord”. When he told Sally, she just laughed and told him to find his favorite exhibit, Percy didn’t see the worry on his mother’s face.
Percy loved the aquarium, he couldn’t remember the last time he had felt this happy—well, a time when his mother’s cooking wasn’t involved. They stayed there from opening time until closing, enjoying each other’s company and feeling happy to be together, away from Gabe.
“Can we buy a fish?” Percy said when they were walking back home.
“I don’t think right now is the best time to get a pet,” Sally said, holding his hand a little bit tighter.
“I can take care of it, mom!” Percy replied. “Please! I can buy the food with my allowance!”
“Gabe won’t allow it sweetie, but I promise you, one day I’ll get you a pet,” Sally said.
“I’m really sorry baby, I truly am.” Sally couldn’t look Percy in the eyes; she didn’t want to see the sadness in them. “But maybe I can bake you some cookies?”
“Can I help?”
Sally laughed. “Of course you can! You’re my little assistant after all!”

Sterek / AU ”Where the sheriff calls Derek when Stiles goes feral after getting bitten by a rogue alpha (because who else knows Stiles scent by heart if not Derek Hale even when it’s been years since the last time they saw each other) and when he finds Stiles he’s picking on his skin something fierce leaving marks and bloody spots that heal faster than he hoped for. It’s not till Derek calls him out by name that Stiles stops, letting out a small whimper when his eyes meet Derek's”
