Compromise where you can. But where you can’t, don’t. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say “no… you move”.

As some of you may know, I go to college at Ohio state university. As some of you may have heard, there was a school shooting this morning.

So I guess the place to start is saying I’m safe. Luckily, I didn’t have a class this morning so I was in my dorm when the shooting occurred. The shooting took place right outside my dorm. I woke up to the sound of gun shots, and this email.

Apparently, one guy went in the building and pulled the fire alarm, and when everyone evacuated the shooter drove his car through the crowd, got out and started slashing at people with a machete, and then pulled out a gun. 9 people are hospitalized, thankfully only 1 in critical condition. This is a first hand account from someone there.

The shooter was killed. This is the view from my dorm window. It’s grainy, but you can see a dead body on the a white sheet surrounded by cones.

My friend was in a classroom directly across from the shooting. this is from his snapchat.

Police are still looking for the second accomplice. I haven’t left my dorm. I still have friends locked in their classrooms. This shouldn’t happen.

“There’s no such thing as winning or losing. There is won and there is lost; there is victory and defeat. There are absolutes. Everything in between is still left to fight for. The Dark Side will have won only when there is no one left to stand against it. Until then, there is only the struggle, because tides do what tides do - they turn.” (x)

What Chicago needs is serious federal investment in education, job training and an infrastructure bill with rules to require diversity in hiring. We must view violence as a direct result of poverty and disinvestment from our communities.

Chicagoans See Fed Role In Fighting Crime Wave — But Not On Streets

Friendly reminder for today

Crying dehydrates you so keep a water bottle nearby or make some tea

Put Vaseline on and around your nose if it’s red and raw

Eat something, even if it’s just a little bit of fruit

If you’re a makeup wearer and have cried remember to wash your face

Naps are a good idea if you need to stop thinking about it for awhile

Hamilton Performance

I feel like people are missing something really key that happened in the 2016 Tonys performance.

Lin changed one word. But that’s all it took to change the meaning of the performance and the Tonys.

“Weapon with my hands.”

They didn’t just take out the muskets to show solidarity, Lin is trying to teach us that what we do, say and write will change perspective for generations to come. He’s showing us how we don’t need a gun or violence to fight for what we believe in. Like Alexander, we have our hands. Our writing. Our words are immortalised when we write, no matter who takes us away. The massacre in Orlando has devastated our country, but why stay silent? Why give them what they want and silence ourselves? We need to make something that is immortalised. Teach generations that come that you can take away our loved ones, but you can NEVER take our words.
