When you have a gun, you don’t get bashed. Protect yourself against hate.
I hate it when people are all “did MLK point guns at the KKK?”
No, he didn’t. And they bombed churches, raped children, and killed tons of people. And then he himself was killed.
The Black Panthers started giving people self-defense classes, taught communities about gun safety, monitored police interactions while armed, and patrolled their neighborhoods. And THAT’S when the KKK killings started to die down.
Words only work when the enemy is using words. And even then, not always
Oddities Note: So I did a little research when you submitted this. The video is on youtube if you are curious in watching. Basically it’s telling kids if you see a gun don’t touch it and tell the nearest adult. There is even a terrible song that goes with it. Maybe there should be one for adults about not leaving your guns where your children can easily find them….like maybe put it in gun safe.
Oh, and there is another video conducted by a news station (I think) and they showed this to a classroom of kids. Then the put a couple of kids the classroom alone and hid a gun to see how the kids would react to it when they found it. The kids touched the gun.
And if you were wondering this was put out by the NRA.
What are your thoughts as a stage manager on using real guns as props onstage?
Oh no. No. Please don’t. It makes me so anxious to even think about.
Buy or rent a good fake. Even a starter pistol is a better option. I’ve only done one show with a handgun that had to be fired, and it was blocked in such a way that it was upstage and clear of any other actors. The process was
a) ASM pulled gun case from cabinet probably 5 mins before it was needed and opened it up.
b) ASM pulled gun out of case and held it in her flat outstretched hand. No setting it down anywhere, especially in the dark.
c) Actor came offstage and walked directly to ASM. NOBODY was in that path.
d) Actor went onstage near the front of the ensemble, shot the gun at the appropriate time, then came back offstage and handed the gun back to the ASM, who put it back in the case and into the cabinet.
This was in addition to a fight call each performance. It happened quickly and efficiently, and it STILL stressed me out.
“I took this picture because initially I thought it was funny. I was going to send it to my husband to show what our mischievous little three-year-old was up to. However, The moment she told me what she was doing I broke down. She was practicing for a lockdown drill at her preschool and what you should do if you are stuck in a bathroom. At that moment all innocense of what I thought my three-year-old possessed was gone.
Politicians - take a look. This is your child, your children, your grandchildren, your great grand children and future generations to come. They will live their lives and grow up in this world based on your decisions. They are barely 3 and they will hide in bathroom stalls standing on top of toilet seats. I do not know what will be harder for them? Trying to remain quiet for an extended amount of time or trying to keep their balance without letting a foot slip below the stall door?
I am not pretending to have all the answers or even a shred of them, but unless you want your children standing on top of a toilet, we need to do something! Please share.”
“I can’t believe <fill in the blank> happened and there’s still people who don’t want gun control. Geez I mean the 2nd amendment actually says it only applies to militias anyways. Plus no one wants to take your guns away, we just need some regulation to keep people from dying. God it’s so sad that some people care more about their precious guns rather than saving lives.”
