One of the most recognizable symbols of Venice are its gondolas. Each is made of 8 different types of wood. The left side is 24 cm larger than the right, and each part of the gondola symbolizes a part of Venice - the front represents the 60 city zones, the back represents Guideka island, the central part is for the famous Rialto bridge. There are about 350 gondolas and 400 gondolieri in Venice. The average gondola is 11 m long and weights 600 kg. Up until 2010, Venice didn’t have any female gondoliers but this has changed now.
