north bay fire info:

update on north bay fire situation: i’m up in seattle so i have had trouble contacting family & friends until today, but thankfully everyone i’ve heard from so far is safe, if a bit shaken up / anxious, as the fires are still not contained & smoke is everywhere.

if you are in the effected areas, here is some information on how to stay safe:

  • wear a mask respirator labeled n95 or n100 to protect your airways. in cases of smoke, dust/particle masks are not helpful!
  • keep your house, car windows and car vents closed.
  • wash your nose out and gargle with clean water five times a day until the smoke clears.
  • take a shower and wash your clothes after being outside.
  • when cleaning outdoor areas and sofas, wear gloves and protect your airways.
  • don’t smoke tobacco or marijuana.

Today on Transgender Day of Remembrance, The Trevor Project joins the rest of the world to remember all transgender lives lost. At Trevor, we know all too well the challenges, violence, harassment, discrimination, and lack of support facing the transgender community. Loss, on top of the adversities and non-affirming conflicts that transgender folks too frequently face, can wear on a community’s resilience. This is why it’s important to gather together, to offer life-affirming support to each other.

During Transgender Awareness Week, we’ve been reaching out to youth on social media with information and images of inspiring transgender folks who are building community. We wanted to tell you about gatherings that will be happening in your community, so that we can together, remember all lives that have been lost.

To find a community to be a part of tonight, here are events across the world, compiled by TDOR.info. To submit your own event, visit this link. This is not a full list, so please check your area to find an event near you.

On this day, please take care of yourself. Together, let’s build resilience with the community.

It’s been a year since I started work on the restoration and renovation of the Historic Guerneville Bank Building. One of the first things that crossed my mind when I started is what is the best way I can use a historical building that’s been empty for 30 years? It’s an important building to both Guerneville and Sonoma County. It didn’t seem right to have just one business there. Why couldn’t it have multiple businesses? It could not only be used as a place to bring interesting new businesses to town, but also help educate and give a sense of place with its history and storied past. Above all it should have things inside that everyone can enjoy and interact with.

I met with Crista Luedtke soon after I got the keys to the building. She has amazing taste and talent and I have to say that what she has done for Guerneville is incredible. I love Guerneville and she has made it a destination. She has been very successful with all of her businesses- boon hotel+spa, boon eat+drink, el barrio and big bottom market. As my consulting partner, her help has been key in the renovation process and helping figure out this multiple business idea- I couldn’t have made it to this point without her. Her design advice and suggestions have been invaluable- and her design layout for the adaptive re-use of the historical teller windows sets the building up for its future. She’s helped me with not only identifying some great new tenants, but she’s helped me as a manager of the renovation and construction process. Her experience has guided the process tremendously. She also played a key role in all acquiring all the needed permitting for the restoration of the building and managing of all contractors. I’ve learned so much.

With great pleasure I like to announce the Guerneville Bank Club. It will be a collective retail and art gallery space and will feature art shows, handcrafted pies, homemade ice cream, curated retail and a little bit of history compliments of the Russian River Historical Society. It’s all I can say right now- the businesses will be announced in the press in the coming weeks. The new name is created from the original name of the bank and a bar that existed across the street called ‘The Bank Club’. Please mark this day in your calendar for the grand opening: Saturday, May 2nd. I hope you’ll join us in celebrating a wonderful old building with a new lease on life!

Eliot Bezzerides:

-runs Panticapaeum Institute; knew Dr. Pitlor, the Chessanis, Ben Caspere; back in the early 80s ‘kept exclusively to such company‘. Notable quote:

‘When you see only with God’s eyes, you see only the truth.
And you recognize a meaningless universe. So today’s exercise is to recognize the world as meaningless and to understand that God did not create a meaningless world. Hold both thoughts as irrefutable and equal, because this is how we must live now in the final age of man.’
Possible adherence to the ideas of ‘doomsday cults’ (meaningless world  we live in now but it wasn’t created as such, this is the final age of man).

Mayor Austin Chessani:

-member of the Chessani Lodge together with his father, Theo. Wife was treated by Dr. Pitlor, died in a hospital in Nevada, manifested signs of schizophrenia, hanged herself; his son Tony ‘the destroyer’ “organises events”; according to Ray Velcoro “his family’s controlled this landfill for 100 years.” Notable quote:

‘Some people can’t handle the deep trip. In my day, you understand, it was about consciousness expansion, tracing the unseen web.’

Dr. Irving Pitlor, psychiatrist:

-runs a clinic covering a variety of services incl. plastic surgery; was treating Ben Caspere as well as Mayor Chessani’s wife; was a member of the Chessani Lodge; did a social theory with the ‘Good people (Ani: ‘It was this, like, commune around Guerneville in the late ‘70s, '80s. Hippie shit.’) (”Used to know a bit Eliot Bezzerides a long time ago”), according to Eliot: ‘He was around for a time, early 80s, researching dynamics of the communal living’. Notable quote:

‘Well, all kinds of secrets in the world. All kinds of truth.’

Ben Caspere:

-his death is a window to everything. He was one of the architects of the community renewal initiative. Was talking on the phone to someone in Mayor Chessani’s house a lot. Had no living family. Owner of Porpoise company. Treated by Dr. Pitlor for a number of things: “Neuroses, anxiety, a painful past like many. Guilt. Ben had a weakness for young women. Paying for them, more specifically. He frequented escorts, although it ignited in him tremendous shame and self-loathing, which resulted in further damaging tendencies. He was sexually obsessed, but he was not aggressive. More passive.” According to Eliot: “Benjamin Caspere. I recognize him. Never spoke. He attended some seminars here, I believe.”

Eliot’s photo album shows five men: Mayor Austin Chessani and his father, Theo (now in his 90s), Eliot, Dr. Pitlor. The identity of the fifth man is not known. He may be important. “A lot of spiritual movements cross-pollinated in these parts.”

(This post is for the future reference, specifically about the group of people who seemed to have belonged to the same circle long time ago and their connection which may still be important).
