What was the theme for Gucci that made you like the photoshoot?
at first I thought Tom Hiddleston and Gucci was an odd pairing but then I learned more about the new campaign. Tom Hiddleston was announced as the face of the Gucci Cruise 2017 Tailoring campaign:
Gucci’s new Cruise 2017 campaign is a celebration of British culture.
the Gucci Resort 2017 line (which was presented at Westminster Abbey) is also very much influenced by British culture with tartan prints, Union jack flags and throwback to highland footwear.
So, if you’re going to have a campaign that focuses on British culture then it only makes sense to use British Talent to promote it.
There was also a video for the Gucci Resort 2017 campaign starring the legendary, Vanessa Redgrave.
And similar to Tom working with Armani earlier in his career, Gucci has been dressing Eddie Redmayne for years
As for the unisex clothing in Tom’s campaign (which was probably most people’s biggest complaint): The new creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele, said this in an interview:
Women in suits. Men in lace shirts. What drives your fluid approach to dressing?
If you walk down a street in any town or city in the world today you realize there’s a kind of marvelous anarchy that characterizes young people, actually people of all ages. My collections reflect something that is happening around us: a strong affirmation of freedom beyond what’s already established, beyond cataloguing, beyond labeling.
*but honestly if you ignore the shoes and just focus on the clothing then the ad campaign doesn’t seem that far from what Tom has already worn.
