Dutch Resistance fighters and civilians line the streets of Aalst, near Eindhoven to welcome the British 3rd Irish Guards Battalion, 32nd Infantry Brigade, Guards Armoured Division, serving under the British Army’s XXX Corps during the town’s liberation from German occupation. The British passed along the main road from Valkenswaard to Eindhoven during Operation Market Garden, the failed Allied attempt to force an entry into Germany over the Lower Rhine.
