For when you want some variety for your tabletop RPG. These events will also give your players a chance to use character skills they don’t often have opportunities for.
Natural Disaster - Have the town the PCs are in catch on fire and see what they do! Do they cut their losses and run? Do they heroically try to save trapped townspeople? What do they do about the aftermath? Natural disasters are an interesting challenge because there can be lots of danger and drama without necessarily having a villain. It may also get your PCs to use skills they don’t commonly have a chance to. You could also try floods, earthquakes, raging storms while at sea, etc.
Powerful Fortress - Put one of your party’s goals in a location where they won’t be able to prevail through combat alone (Example: a fortress where they are vastly outnumbered). Your players will have to rely on either stealth or guile (or both) to accomplish their goal. The pacing of such events can be frustrating to some players, but few sessions are as rewarding as a creatively executed heist or infiltration.
Dangerous Crossing - Give them a dangerous physical obstacle to overcome. A canyon, or a raging river, or quicksand or an old battleground littered with traps and mines.
Festival - Have the PCs encounter a festival or tournament! With lots of contests! This could be a good opportunity for them to build their fame and fortune (especially if you allow gambling). Some of my favorite sessions have involved festivals.
Entertainment - Put the PCs in a situation where they have to entertain someone. What do they come up with?
Letter - Have one of the PCs receive a letter, either from an NPC they’ve dealt with before or from someone involved with their backstory. This is a good way to make the consequences of their actions seem more real. You can also use it to introduce new plotlines/sidequests.
Crafting Challenge - Put the PCs in a situation where they need to craft something in order to accomplish their goal. Maybe they need to make something in order to fix a mechanism? Or in order to satisfy some local gift-giving custom? Or they need a forgery? Maybe as part of an exchange for something else they need?
Lost and Found - Have your PCs discover someone or something that is clearly lost. Maybe they find an infant in the wilderness. Or a key with a strange inscription, or some kind of talisman. Throw in a clue or two to present your players with a tantalizing mystery.
Inhospitable Wilderness - Have the PCs go somewhere it’s an effort just to survive. A barren desert, a treacherous swamp with poison gasses, a forest so dense the ground never sees the sun, or even the bottom of the ocean. Test their endurance and survival skills!
Dinner Party - Have the PCs be summoned to a formal event! Test them on the battlegrounds of social grace and etiquette! Even better if it’s in a dangerous environment or an alien culture.
Thief - Have something important stolen from the PCs. See how they handle it.
Needle in a Haystack - Give the PCs something very difficult to find. Like a single specific housecat in a sprawling metropolis, or a legendary weapon of which there are many fakes/copies.
Really, if you need any more inspiration, look at your player’s character sheets and see if they’ve invested any points in a skill they haven’t gotten to use much. Then invent a challenge they could feasibly use that skill for. If you can’t think of a situation that could be helped by an Appraise, Craft: Calligraphy or Handle Animal check, you need to practice your own creative problem solving skills!
The expression of a sign is much - MUCH -
different depending on the planet it is found. And in my opinion, this
is specially true when it comes to the sun and moon. The Sun is who we
strive to be, while the Moon is what we are most deeply. Sometimes I
even see that the Stereotypical traits of a sign are more evident in the moon than
in the sun sign. The reason I find for this, is that most of us express
ourselves through our feelings, particularly women or people with a
more feminine energy (what I mean by this, has nothing to do with
gender, but that you are in tune with your emotions) or sometimes it has
to do with your dominant planet. Here are the differences and
similarities of the signs placed on the sun or moon.
Differences: Sun is more aloof, the Aries sun is more constrained, and composed, looks confident. Moon in Aries has a lot of mental energy, very passionate and changes their mind very easily. The Moon doesn’t know how to direct their energy and might feel restless, while the Sun projects their energy better.
Aries Moon feels everyone is out to get them while the Aries Sun does not. Aries characteristics are more obvious and pronounced in the Aries moon than
the Aries sun.
Similarities: stubbornness and charm, expressive.
sun are blunt and less careful with other people’s feelings. In this
particular sign, the Taurus sun is easier to spot than the Taurus moon.
The Taurus moon is more grounded than the Taurus sun. Taurus moon is
deep, while the Taurus sun is more shallow.
Taurus moon loves love, and stability, and this quality is less manifested in the Sun.
Similarities: aloof, absent minded, easily bored
Differences: Gemini suns want to appear easy-going, but it
isn’t necessarily their true nature. Gemini moons are truly easy-going
people. Sun wants to “be right” know the facts, while Gemini moons are
simply more cynical to guard their emotions. Gemini suns are less witty
(sorry…) than the moon sign.
Similarities: emotional, has pronounced mood swings.
suns act their feelings, like taking revenge, doing something about it
BUT the cancer moon express their negative emotions through crying or anger.
Cancer suns are easy to spot, while cancer moons may need to feel comfortable to express themselves. The happy go lucky cancer sun is evident, while the Cancer moon is more - way more - serious.
Similarities: the Ego and the need for compliments
Differences: The Leo Sun is a poser, they know it too! They are show offs, and while the Leo Moon is pretty damn good at everything, they know it, but will not say it. Will like to hear it, tho. The Leo Moon does not care about their appearance as much as the Leo Sun. The Leo Sun is more patient, annoy them a little, try harder, try again and they will get angry, the Leo Moon is more defensive and will kill you in less tries. The Leo Moon is more loving though, more sure of themselves and way more protective of themselves and especially, of their loved ones.
Similarities: critical, analyzing
Differences: I find in this sign the less differences. The Virgo Sun is more shy than the Virgo Moon, which I think goes against popular belief. (I also think this sign differs a lot depending if you are more masculine or feminine, I’ll do a post on that later). The Virgo knows how to live life correctly and will tell you how to lead your life, while being a mess themselves. Both are blunt, but you might have to push the Virgo suns more than the Virgo moons to actually get the real deal.
Similarities: cares about what others think of them, passive agressive
Differences: the Libra sign is very misinterpreted, whenever I read about them I hear: “shallow” and while they can be vain because they care what others think about them, they are still deep. They think and are witty people, like their fellow air signs. Libra Sun is more care-free and easy going than the libra moon and less romantic because they want to appear care-free and interested in others, but might not really be interested at all. Libra Moon people are more intense. They are romantic and still vain, but they are more modest and insecure the Suns. They are also secretive something the Libra Sun is not.
Here and in Capricorn is where I PERSONALLY find the most differences
Similiarities: jealous, egocentric
Differences: if you still think that Scorpio people are the mysterious,
dark, non talkative people that the stereotypes have them for, you
really do not know many Scorpios SUNS. Scorpio SUNS want to be the center of attention and are charming, and talkative. When they get dark is when they don’t like you… Yeah.
Revenge is a big truth here. The Scorpio moon? Now yes, they are the
intense, dark, jealous you always thought Scorpios should be. Scorpio
Suns might be dark at their core but will
not show it, but Scorpio moons are what you see. The Sun is more
reckless because just like I said about cancers, in the sun Scorpio acts
on their feelings and the moons just feels them. So actually, in spite
of being more intense, the Scorpio Moon tends to be kinder and still
Similarities: EXPLORERS and thin skin
Differences: The Sun has a bigger heart. The moon since its the realm of emotions and Sag escapes, is less empathetic. The Sagittarius Sun is more bubbly than the moon, but the moon is more playful. The Sag sun is pretty easy to spot while the Sag moon might be one of the hardest to see. Sagittarius moons are more critical and snap easily. They are more blunt than the sun. Both are childish in way, it’s the Sag youthful spirit. The Sagittarius Sun is more philosophical and aware, the sag moon is more care-free.
Similarities: confident and ambitious!
Are you kidding me? Capricorn suns are way way less introvert! They are not as reserved! The thing is, the Suns try to keep their feelings in check but the
Moon though, is naturally hiding them. It’s what they instinctively do
since the Moon represents the emotions. The Capricorn sun has a more
loud confidence, while the Moon is more cautious.
The Capricorn Sun might not be hardworking in areas that do not interest them, but if they want something, they will make everyone know they are going to get it. The Capricorn Moon are prudent and will get what they want with discipline and with anyone realizing how they got to the top! They do not need to say it, they will show you. The Moon is colder than the Sun and more intimidating. Way more intimidating.
Similarities: I see not much resemblance in these two, maybe the aloofness and Idgaf attitude.
If I had to say who is the two face of the zodiac I would not turn to the Gemini, surprisingly enough. The Aquarius Sun tho,
they are volatile. In the Sun I have trouble understanding them and in
the moon they are obvious! The Aquarius Sun looks confident and
detached, but this might not be their true emotional nature, just a disguise.
They can be happy one moment and angry the next, loving for one second,
pushing you away after because of this fighting against what their
inner feelings are and what they want their public persona to be. The
Moon is less volatile because they really are detached, for the moon
it’s not a show. VERY VERY GOOFY, loves attention and IS WITTY. Very unique person and loves/wants to appear weird.
Differences: The Pisces Sun is sensitive, but more to their own feelings. The Pisces Moon is more sensitive towards others, not wanting to hurt other people. The Pisces Moon is truly the most sensitive of the zodiac. The Pisces Moon cares more about what people think than the Sun. The Pisces Sun is comfortable in their skin, the Moon is always fighting against their empathetic nature. “Why am i feeling so much, stop” but if only the Pisces Moon did not feel ashamed of their sensitivity they would hurt much less. Yes, the Pisces Moon that doesn’t like being empathetic, lives in a lot of pain. They Moon can be submissive and naturally wants to please, the Sun however, is more selfish. Also, the Pisces Moon escapes reality more often and is darker.
sun through the houses - demonstrated with abstract writings (through the eyes of a young poet)
sun in the first house: the most golden light of all. creative spirits spill out of their mouths and they become the light they create. running without stopping, passes beyond peak level of all identity - formless light running chaotically into eternity
sun in the second house: a paint covered abundance of life, shimmering with jewels and walking with spirit. becoming their surroundings through grounding forces that have the ability to change the colour of the skies. speaking to the earth and finding themselves in it - a sober empathy rooted under ground
sun in the third house: the arms cut the air and everything that passes through it, their fingers typing history into creation. chaotic intellect, words running through their bodily veins like an electric shock of sunlight. speaking themselves into existence - a flighty dash of colour unreachable by anything but mind
sun in the fourth house: all very quiet, dark blue, the sun illuminates the interstellar cosmos that is rooted in the heart. reaching for others and breathing life into them with touch, growth through feeling and searching. stand still and listen to the ocean - a blinding light that sparks up the eyes, and resounds in the heart
sun in the fifth house: creation embodied, fierce and dignified. a royal light - performing themselves into existence. they are the sun, they are the light, so warm. an honest confidence that makes the mind tremble and the heart pump faster. skill and talent hits like lightning - worshipping the sun with offerings of life and wonder, an angel
sun in the sixth house: the veins and linguistics of humanity, found in the light reflecting from the vase, the sun-rise bleeding into the kitchen. a simplicity that is harnessed from a hidden chaos, draws from life and offers it back seven fold with a serving heart that bleeds willingly for the world. an intimate and warm familiar light - runs through our blood, is the aid that heals and brings us to ground
sun in the seventh house: connections that buzz between invisible lines across the universe, offers equilibrium and hope. finds themselves in reflections and in pieces of others, two watery mirrors opposing one another, creating light and solace in-between. an uncontainable love - where the sky turns light blue at the edges, that’s where you’ll find me
sun in the eighth house: an enveloping dark blanket of injuring intimacy, oh god the rhythm and melody of the hermit’s cries who finds home in the darkest places. holding blades and embracing them, until they bleed with existential love; a pure understanding for faith and the peace of death. the peak of orgasm mimics death. a small shard of god - makes even the sun tremble, as the darknesses embrace and extinguish him
sun in the ninth house: as you look over the hills and the mountains, and see the sun shining between the canyons, you see life. a spiritual altruism that longs to experience the world. a smile brighter than two suns. nature is home, and has a lot to teach. a raging and powerful peace - the archer shoots an arrow into the sky, another sun emerges
sun in the tenth house: over the earth is a guardian. a calm look gazes over it. one hand holds a throne, the other, a tempest. the sun shines over the cold and hard surfaces and turns them into works of art, sculptures, architecture. a divine blessing of teaching and authority - the kind of energies that teach trees to grow themselves back into life during spring
sun in the eleventh house: in the midst of the city, a protest burns and seeps through the concrete they fight for. indescribable passion and friendship meet for one cause - togetherness. in the heart of those people, thats where you live. an urn filled with radiant water spills over the world and it nourishes it, protects it. a confident and selfless intellect - living amongst the people, you’re recognised in the stars
sun in the twelfth house: a painting somewhere is admired by a little boy. as he pours his eyes into it, it awakens. the landscape moves and he loses himself in the emotion. there, he looks into the sky, and meets god. a phenomenal world that language can’t explain, doesn’t materialise on earth. the sun illuminates the dreams and lights up the soul, a simple and pitiful excuse to a whole land worshipping the magic - the colours blue, pink and green circulate below the ocean. find me there

the days live long and full in the desert. we see them each from infancy to age; and bear witness as they lay their golden heads across the sand to die. the evening sky is decorated with the insides of their beating hearts and the setting sun weighs low and heavy on the horizon, corpulent and flush with hot blood and fire.
