grotesque creatures

“The wildest hath not such a heart as you.
Run when you will, the story shall be changed:
Apollo flies, and Daphne holds the chase;
The dove pursues the griffin; the mild hind
Makes speed to catch the tiger; bootless speed,
When cowardice pursues and valour flies.”
 ―    William Shakespeare

“Oraculum”  41*29 cm- Gouache and mixed media on 300gr Fabriano watercolor paper
Full picture of “Oraculum”. I will be honest I am not 100% happy with this piece, might rework it in the summer. There are definitely some details I like. But did not have more time and I hope you like it, anyway.

I wonder if Mairon was ever in sheer awe of Melkor’s power and creations. Like to many everything Melkor did was terrifying, but to Mairon…his craetions were just beautiful. Tormented elves turned to grotesque creatures –beautiful. Destroying lands, and torturing innocent humans—beautiful, and so many more things, are just flawless in Mairon’s eyes.

And it means something if Mairon, is perhaps one of the most fair beings possibly believing that Melkor’s dark creations are far more beautiful than he is (or anything he has created).

A rather absurd Aequis concept that I wanted to try out. They’re lightly based on saint pigeons, but without going to extremes. (After all, I like my designs to be functional!)

Someday I’ll introduce these semi-domestic Aequis designs. In the meantime, though, there are plenty more wild type/semi wild to play around with.

(Really glad that this drawing reminded me I need to re-learn how to draw massive wings folded!)

‘Of flesh’ - 24*41 cm

Was reading a lot of witch/nature/nordic things lately and the character of 'Sleipnir’ made me want to paint something grotesque eight legged horse thing. Hope you like it!
