“Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Justice the founder of my fabric moved:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.
Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I shall endure.
All hope abandon, ye who enter here.”

“The only way to gain power in a world that is moving too fast is to learn to slow down. And the only way to spread one’s influence wide to learn how to go deep. The world we want for ourselves and our children will not emerge from electronic speed but rather from a spiritual stillness that takes root in our souls. Then, and only then, will we create a world that reflects the heart instead of shattering it.”

I’d always thought of myself as an open-minded person. I had no patience
with anyone who put down other kids because of their race, religion, or
sexuality. But that’s just one kind of open-mindedness. There’s another kind,
too, the kind that’s willing to see people for who they really are and admit
when you were wrong about them. That’s the part I still need to work on.
