Darling (Thomas X Reader)

WC: 3036

AU: College

Summary: Thomas Jefferson is known as the campus’ most arrogant man, but one Y/N Y/L/N may just change that.

Warnings: Alcohol, tiny allusion to sex, kinda language idk, it’s in Thomas’ POV

A/N: Sorry that Day 5 is late, but I’ve been hella busy recently. So, without further ado, Day 5 of the @hamwriters write-a-thon.

I walked into the classroom, a smirk wide on my face. “Good morning, everyone!” I said loudly, earning a few groans from the rest of the class. “Thomas, I highly suggest that you sit down. You’re drawing attention, and you don’t want Professor Washington to get up you again. You’ve already got one blemish on your record, and you don’t want two.” James said, pulling me down slightly towards my seat. I let out a chuckle, my smirk widening. “Madison, you say that as if drawing attention is a bad thing.” I said, stretching out the word bad. James simply rolled his eyes, mumbling something under his breath. “Thomas, I say this with the utmost respect, but shut your damn mouth. Thank you.” I heard a voice say and my eyebrows furrowed as I searched for the face the voice belonged to. My eyes landed on a girl with Y/H/C hair that was pulled up into a bun. She wore a pale blue sweater, its sleeves a little too long for her. A pair of black glasses framed her face, and her Y/E/C eyes were full of annoyance. “Well, darling, if I shut my mouth I’d be depriving you all of the greatest source of entertainment in this place.” I said and she let out a groan, along with several other people in the classroom (James was one of them). “Jefferson, I’d truly love to see life from your perspective, but I just can’t seem to get my head that far up my ass.” She said and I arched my eyebrows, glaring at James who let out a short laugh. “Oh my god, Y/N.” A girl, who I presumed to be one of her friends, said and Y/N simply smirked. “What? It’s true Angelica. He’s just too blinded by the inside of his anal cavity to see it.” She said and as she spoke she turned around and gave me a malicious smile. I felt my face flush red with anger, desperately trying to think of a retort of some kind. Y/N smiled smugly at me, and I glowered at her. ’“My apologies class. I had some car trouble. Now, pull out your textbooks.” The booming voice of Professor Washington echoed through the room and I reluctantly pulled out my textbook, a distasteful expression on my face. “Thomas, I know you may not like her, but you have to admit. She does have a point.” James said and I scowled, aggressively opening my textbook. “Shut up James.” I muttered, flipping hastily to the page we needed for the lesson. James simply smiled, his eyes bright. “What’re you smiling at Madison?” I said, too annoyed to notice that his eyes rested on Y/N, a matching smile on her face.

“So, Jefferson, you going to the party at Lafayette’s tonight? I hear Maria Reynolds is gonna be there.” Charles Lee said, wiggling his eyebrows at me with a smirk on his face. He rested an arm on my shoulder and I rolled my eyes. “Yes, Lee, I will be going, but not because Maria is going to be there. That flame died out years ago.” I said, crossing my arms over my chest, knocking Charles’s arm off in the process. Charles stumbled slightly, but stood up straight, brushing off his clothes. “Great. I presume Madison will be there with you.” Charles said, his voice taking on a hard edge. I nodded, looking at him quizzically. “Yes, he will.” I said, almost hesitantly. “Cool. I guess I’ll see you there.” Charles said and I nodded, giving him a strange look. He scuttled off, disappearing almost as quickly as he’d appeared. “That guy is weird.” I muttered to myself, rolling my eyes slightly. “I’m telling you Angelica, there is no way I’m going to that party!” I heard a voice say, and my eyes widened when I realised that the voice belonged to Y/N. “Come on Y/N, please. I hear Jefferson is going to be there.” Angelica said, and I could practically hear the smirk in her voice. I also imagined that she was her wiggling her eyebrows at Y/N. I smirked and saw them turn the corner, too caught up in conversation to notice me. “I thought you were trying to convince me to go to this party, not want to stay as far away from it as possible.” Y/N said and I rolled my eyes, wondering why Y/N hated me this much. She was very hot, I’ll give her that, and it seemed that hot girls normally gravitated towards me as if I were a magnet. It’s as if they were all iron filings and Y/N was a brick. Absolutely no pull whatsoever. “Y/N, listen to me. You can dress up, drink a lot, and make out with someone when you’re smashed. Maybe it’ll be Lafayette. You did tell me that you thought he was hot.” Angelica said and Y/N paused, a thoughtful look on her face. “It’s the accent.” Y/N said and Angelica cheered slightly, wrapping an arm around Y/N’s shoulders. “What time does the party start?” Y/N asked and I stepped out from behind the corner that was hiding me. “The party starts at 7, darling.” I said, winking at her. Y/N rolled her eyes and Angelica looked mildly disgusted. “Thanks for the info. The darling wasn’t necessary though.” Y/N said, her upper lip curled slightly. Angelica nodded, giving me a look that held nothing but contempt. “I’m at your service, darling.” I said, mock bowing. Y/N scoffed and walked away from me, Angelica right by her side. I heard footsteps approach and I assumed it was James. “Hate seeing her go, but I love watching her leave.” I said, training my eyes on her lower half. James let out a sigh of annoyance, shaking his head. “You wonder why she doesn’t like you.” James muttered and I rolled my eyes, turning to look at him. “I’m smart, confident, handsome. What isn’t there to love?” I said, holding my arms out. “There’s so much Thomas. So much.”

I shrugged on my jacket, the magenta contrasting boldly against my skin. I knocked on the door, smiling at the fact that I could hear the music from out here. The door swung open and I saw a very jovial Lafayette, who I guessed had already had quite a lot to drink. “Monsieur Jefferson!” He called and I chuckled, nodding my head. “Monsieur Lafayette!” I replied, slightly less enthusiastically. “Come in, come in. It’s so good to see you mon ami.” Lafayette said, slinging an arm around my shoulder. “Say, has Y/N showed up yet?” I asked and Lafayette nodded, his expression changing slightly. “Oui. She has. Her and Angelica got here, uh, not too long ago.” He said and I noticed the slight slip in his words. “Thanks Laf. Where can I find something to drink?” I asked and he smiled, pointing to a bench covered in various bottles of alcohol. “It’s all there mon ami.” He said and I nodded, clapping him slightly on the shoulder as I left. “I’m telling you Y/N. I see the way you two look at each other. It’s disgusting. With enough alcohol you’ll be staying the night here, and your life will be so much better.” I heard the voice of Angelica Schuyler say, and I felt my stomach churn at her words. Who was she talking about? “Angie, I don’t look at him with, as you so eloquently put it, puppy eyes. I look at him with normal eyes.” Y/N said and I chuckled slightly, still curious as to who she was talking about. Angelica let out an annoyed sigh, and there was a brief silence. I assumed she was taking a drink of something. “Denial. They say that’s the first step to acceptance.” Angelica said and I bit back a laugh. “Shut up Angelica.” Y/N said, and I leaned on the kitchen doorway, looking at the two of them. Angelica was wearing her signature pink, in the form of a tea length dress. Y/N, however, was wearing a deep shade of purple. The purple made her Y/E/C eyes pop, and the dress fit her in all the right places. I happened to notice that the purple on her dress complimented the magenta of my jacket, and my heart swelled slightly. I paused, furrowing my eyebrows. Why would I get excited about Y/N’s outfit somehow complimenting my own? My thoughts were interrupted by Angelica picking up the conversation again. “Y/N, I’ve spoken to Laf, and lemme tell you that the boy is head over heels. Can you at least kiss him tonight?” I felt as if Angelica had punched me square in the chest. It felt like the air had been knocked out of me, and I suddenly felt a little sick. It was Lafayette.  "Sorry to interrupt this riveting conversation, ladies, but I need a drink.“ I said, putting on a façade of confidence. It was something I did well. "Go ahead Thomas.” Angelica said, her voice slightly strained. I grabbed a beer from the fridge, and I heard the girls whisper something between them. I heard Y/N cough and I turned around, the beer clutched tightly in my right hand. There was a brief moment of silence before Angelica nudged Y/N in the ribs. Y/N looked quite pissed off before turning her gaze to me. “Are you ok?” Y/N asked, her words leaving her mouth at a fast pace. I raised and eyebrow and Y/N let out an annoyed sigh. “You look, different. Something looks off. Maybe it’s the magenta, I don’t know, but you look odd.” Y/N said and I took a swig of my beer, the silence settling over us. “Can I talk to you outside?” I said and Y/N sent Angelica an indecipherable look. Angelica nodded and a hesitant smile made its way onto Y/N’s face. “Sure.” She said, setting her glass down on the counter. “You might want that.” I heard Angelica mutter and I fought the urge to roll my eyes. I gestured for Y/N to follow me, and she did. We made our way to the house’s patio, pushing past various people who looked vaguely familiar. “Here we are.” Y/N said and I nodded, leaning my arms on the fence that ran along the patio. “In all seriousness, I know that you may not be the greatest human being, I can still feel mildly empathetic towards you.” Y/N said and I let out a chuckle, taking a swig of my beer. “Truly Y/N, that means so much to me.” I said sarcastically and Y/N scoffed, hitting my shoulder slightly. “Easy Jefferson.” She said, a smile forming on her face. I let out a sigh, looking over at Y/N, noticing how the moonlight brought out a sparkle in her eyes that I never got to see at school. “Have you noticed that we’re matching?” I asked, turning to face Y/N a little more. Y/N frowned slightly before looking her dress up and down. She looked over at me and gasped slightly, amusement in her eyes. “Would you look at that.” Y/N muttered and I chuckled, taking another drink of my beer. I let out a sigh and sat my beer down on a nearby table. “Y/N, uh, I did actually want to talk to you about something out here.” I said and Y/N nodded, gesturing for me to walk with her. I gave her a curious look and followed her. She sat down on the couch that rested on the patio and I smiled, sitting down next to her. “Talk ahead, Thomas.” She said, smiling warmly at me. “Firstly, I just wanted to say that you look good when you smile.” I said and Y/N immediately frowned. “No, I didn’t mean it in a creepy, cat-calling way. I just meant that I’ve noticed that when you smile your eyes look brighter, and you get these cute crinkles near your eyes.” I said, feeling my cheeks heat up slightly. I noticed that Y/N’s cheeks were painted a similar colour, an unreadable expression on her face. “Secondly, I, uh.” I started, but we were interrupted by an unusually loud voice. “Mademoiselle Y/L/N! May I speak with you?” The voice asked and I looked up to the rosy cheeked face of Lafayette. My face immediately fell and I looked over at Y/N. “Go. He’s more fun than I am. I mean, why would you want to spend your night with little old me?” I said and Y/N went to protest. “Just go darling. I’ll be fine.” I said, and I noticed that Lafayette’s face hardened as I called Y/N darling. “Merci.” Laf said and I watched with hard eyes as he grabbed her hand and lead her away. I let out a sigh, and put my head in my hands. I felt someone sit down next to me and I let out a groan. “Something’s got you down Thomas? You’re almost always the life of the party.” I heard a voice say and I took my head out of my hands and looked at James. “It’s Y/N.” I said and James gave me a strange look. “What about her? She hasn’t said anything else to hurt your ego, has she?” James said, a slight smirk on his face. I shook my head and James’ smirk fell. “Then what is it?” He asked, clearly concerned for my wellbeing. “I love her.”

The next morning I woke up with a mild headache and an ache in my chest. Y/N had left with Lafayette and I hadn’t seen her since. I cringed as I got out of bed, desperately wishing Y/N was there next to me. I checked my phone, wincing slightly at the brightness of the screen. I saw that I had a text, and I clicked on the app. I smiled slightly when I saw that it was from Y/N.

Y/N/N: Hey Thomas, it’s Y/N. If you’re wondering, James gave me your number last night. I’m sorry for leaving you last night. Laf wanted to talk and I didn’t want to be rude. Do you mind if I stop by today to continue our conversation?

I took in a sharp breath, almost dropping the phone. Y/N wanted to see me again. Today. I ran a hand through my hair, my eyes darting to my wardrobe almost subconsciously. I typed back a message to her with shaky fingers.

Thomas: Hey Y/N. I’d love to meet up again today. How does 9:30 sound?

I sent the message, hoping it would suffice. I put my phone down and moved to my wardrobe, scanning through it briefly. I suddenly heard a noise and I saw my phone screen light up.

Y/N/N: 9:30 sounds great. I’ll meet you at the cafe on campus. They know me there so I can possibly grab us free drinks. Or at least half price 😉

I chuckled at her message, grabbing a shirt from my wardrobe. I grabbed a pair of pants that’d go well with it and threw the articles of clothing over my arm. I showered quickly, pulling the clothes on with ease. I checked the time and saw that it was 9:15. I cursed slightly and hastily put on my shoes, tying the laces sloppily. I swung a jacket over my shoulder and locked my dorm room behind me. I walked down to the cafe, looking around at the surprisingly busy crowds for 9:20 on a Sunday morning. I sat down in a booth near the window, watching around intently for Y/N. I pulled out my phone, scrolling through my photos aimlessly. I heard a bell and I looked up, and I saw a familiar head of Y/H/C hair enter the cafe. “Y/N!” I called, waving slightly at her. She smiled warmly, waving at me as she made her way over to the booth. “Hey Thomas.” Y/N said, sitting down opposite me. “How are you?” I asked, looking at her softly. “I’m good. A little tired from last night, but good.” She said and I forced a smile, trying to block any images of her and Lafayette from my mind. “That’s good.” I said, watching as she fiddled absently with her hair. “So, what were you going to tell me last night? You know, before Laf swept me away.” Y/N said brightly and I took in a deep breath. “Well, I, uh.” I went to continue but was cut off by the waiter asking us for our orders. I was probably a little more aggressive than I needed to be, but I was irritated. The waiter nodded, writing down our orders before walking off. “You were saying?” Y/N said kindly, resting her head on her hands. I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Are you and Lafayette dating?” I blurted, feeling my cheeks heat up a little. Y/N’s jaw dropped slightly and I knew that I had overstepped my boundaries. Y/N reached her hand across the table and placed it gently on top of mine. I felt the blush spread across my cheeks, and I noticed that her cheeks were the same colour as mine. “I’m not dating Lafayette. I think he likes me, sure, but we’re not dating. Is there any reason you’re asking me that?” Y/N said, a sly smirk creeping onto her face. I felt my blush darken, and I looked away from her, but somehow the feeling of her hand on mine kept me grounded. “Well, I, may, uh.” I said, scratching the back of my neck nervously. Y/N let out a giggle, squeezing my hand briefly. “The great Thomas Jefferson has finally run out of words. And all because of little old me?” Y/N said, smirking at me. I rolled my eyes and brought her hand up to my lips, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. “Even after me inadvertently admitting to you that I have the most insane crush on you, you still find a way to mock me.” I said and Y/N’s smile widened, her blush a little darker. “How about we get out of here after we get our coffees? I presume they do takeaway.” I said and Y/N nodded, her eyes sparkling. “They’re a college campus cafe. Of course they do takeaway. How else are the students gonna survive?” Y/N said and I laughed, pressing another kiss to her hand. “Then let’s go. Our first date should be somewhere classier than a campus cafe at 9:45.” I said, standing up from the booth. “And where would you suggest we go, Mr Jefferson?” Y/N asked, raising her eyebrows slightly. I smirked, and I pressed a kiss to her cheek. “Anywhere you want darling. Anywhere you want.”

Michael Jackson was not an artist who comes along once in a decade, a generation, or a lifetime. He was an artist who comes along only once, period. He was driven by his hunger to learn, to constantly top himself, to be the best. He was the consummate student. He studied the greats and became greater. He raised the bar and then broke the bar. His talent and creativity thrust him and entertainment into the stratosphere.

I mean Michael Jackson was awesome! Totally in charge. In fact the more I think and talk about Michael Jackson, the more I feel the “King of Pop” was not big enough for him. I think he was simply “The Greatest Entertainer That Ever Lived”. -Berry Gordy

Happy Birthday King - August 29th 1958

After I had my wisdom teeth pulled, the dentist gave me a surgical mask to wear home to keep out germs.

I loved that mask. It was great - much better than sunglasses - and I had fun wearing it around for a while. There’s so little privacy in my life that concealing a little bit of me is a way to give myself a break from all that. It may be considered strange, I know, but I like my privacy. -Michael Jackson

This is the greatest entertainer that this world ever knew, and will ever know, for that matter, and everybody know that because you were, and still are, one of the greatest human being that lived in planet earth. You had such a good heart and such a beautiful passion for the human kind and for our planet. We’ve never saw you doing bad for the others, we’ve never saw you hating, we’ve never saw you angry. You have the purest heart I’ve ever seen, you taught me how to be a better person and how to love one another, you are the true example of what a good person is. Not to mention your music and your talent, the music industry will never know someone like you. The world miss your music, the world miss your heart, the world miss Michael Jackson.
