July 31, 3014 | The Bayou

We were shown the difference between a healthy area in the bayou, above, and a dead one, choked off by salinity and erosion.

The lush areas are full if life and beauty, noisy with bird song and the buzz of life. Bald Cedars majestic and tall provide shade and refuge. Even saw a baby alligator and her mamma.

The GPS on the Coast Guard boat was from 1984 and at one point showed us to be dead center of land, a marsh area like the one you see above, we were in fact in open water. The marsh had disappeared like so many others.

This is the Great Delta of North America, and the fastest disappearing one in the world.
