The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol’s plans. The symbol of the rebellion.

Catching Fire quote:

He raises his head. “What’s that?”

I lift my chin. I’ve been so consumed with my own worries, I haven’t noticed the strange noise coming from the square. A whistling, the sound of an impact, the intake of breath from a crowd.

“Come on,” Peeta says, his face suddenly hard. I don’t know why. I can’t place the sound, even guess at the situation. But it means something bad to him.

I still say that Enobaria “decided” to have her teeth filed into fangs in the same way that Finnick “decided” to sleep with the entire population of the Capitol and Tigris “decided” to have increasingly bizarre cosmetic surgeries.

I mean I’m not sure that she was unhappy with it but mandatory gimmicky bullshit is kind of the Capitol’s thing.

I was thinking abt Katniss today & I was so saddened by the fact that pretty much everyone abandoned her after her trial & her return to D12. Her mother abandons her once again, her best friend Gale leaves her once he realizes he no longer has a chance w/her romantically; only Greasy Sae comes to check on her. When Peeta reappears & Katniss finds him planting the flowers to honor Prim, I started to cry bc that's the first thing he does the moment he got back? How can anyone not love Peeta?

Truth.

There are a lot of layers to everyone’s different reaction to the war, loss and to Katniss specifically. I think it speaks volumes about each one’s relationship with her.

I do think she was “abandoned” in a way and maybe because they no longer got what they needed from her. Not that every person’s motives were out of pure selfishness, but there also wasn’t enough there to hold them in relationship with her.

When I think of Katniss at the end of Mockingjay, I think of her stripped down to who she is and what she stands for, no longer doing the bidding of those around her. And like you said, what she’s left with is the one that truly loves her.

Peeta’s reaction to everything that’s happened to her is to honor PrimThere isn’t a more loving, more thoughtful, more selfless act that Peeta could have done for Katniss.

After the war,

  • He chose to go back to District Twelve.
  • He chose to honor Prim.
  • He chose to bring Katniss bread the next day.

He loved her. She loved him. They’ve needed each other their entire lives.

Thanks, anon. Always bringing me the everlark feels.
