🎵 grand budapest hotel ost

i declare exam crunch time officially open 🙈 from now until mid-june it’s gonna be a crazy few weeks but i’m actually looking forward to that sense of discipline and structure, it’ll feel good to be productive for a change! right now i just finished a food chem report by drinking rocket fuel coffee and listening to one of my fave movies’ soundtrack.

Part four of my quotes collection is dedicated to the artists! This one is a little bit longer, but this is because there were so many good artists and quotes I couldn’t pick a select few. As always, I hope you enjoy these quotes!

  • “Time abides long enough for those who make use of it.”
  • “It’s easier to resist at the beginning than at the end.”

  • “Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.”
  • “As we advance in life it becomes more and more difficult, but in fighting the difficulties the inmost strength of the heart is developed.”

Florence Scovel Shinn

  • “Every great work, every big accomplishment, has been brought into manifestation through holding to the vision, and often just before the big achievement, comes apparent failure and discouragement.”
  • “You will be a failure, until you impress the subconscious with the conviction you are a success. This is done by making an affirmation which 'clicks.'”

Camille Pissarro

  • “It is absurd to look for perfection.”
  • “Everything is beautiful, all that matters is to be able to interpret.”
  • “Don’t be afraid in nature: one must be bold, at the risk of having been deceived and making mistakes.”
  • “When you do a thing with your whole soul and everything that is noble within you, you always find your counterpart.”

Pablo Picasso

  • “Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working.”
  • “Action is the foundational key to all success.”
  • “Everything you can imagine is real.”
  • “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.”
  • “I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.”
  • “He can who thinks he can, and he can’t who thinks he can’t. This is an inexorable, indisputable law.”
  • “Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”

Andy Warhol

  • “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”
  • “People need to be made more aware of the need to work at learning how to live because life is so quick and sometimes it goes away too quickly.”

Salvador Dali

  • “Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.”
  • “Have no fear of perfection - you’ll never reach it.”
  • “Mistakes are almost always of a sacred nature. Never try to correct them. On the contrary: rationalize them, understand them thoroughly. After that, it will be possible for you to sublimate them.”

Georgia O’Keeffe

  • “I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life - and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.”
  • “You get whatever accomplishment you are willing to declare.”

Artemisia Gentileschi

  • “As long as I live I will have control over my being.”

Henri Matisse

  • “Creativity takes courage.”
  • “You study, you learn, but you guard the original naïveté. It has to be within you, as desire for drink is within the drunkard or love is within the lover.”
  • “There are always flowers for those who want to see them.”
  • “He who loves, flies, runs, and rejoices; he is free and nothing holds him back.”

  • “Flowers grow out of dark moments.”
  • “Life is a succession of moments, to live each one is to succeed.”
  • “Love the moment and the energy of that moment will spread beyond all boundaries.”

Michaelangelo

  • “Faith in oneself is the best and safest course.”
  • “A beautiful thing never gives so much pain as does failing to hear and see it.”
  • “There is no greater harm than that of time wasted.”
  • “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”
  • “Every beauty which is seen here by persons of perception resembles more than anything else that celestial source from which we all are come.”

I am definitely not a langblr but I learned basic French and I am currently learning Korean starting with Hangul. There are a lot of things to be reminded whenever you are trying to learn a new language especially if you are new to the experience (like me lol).

1️⃣ It will take YEARS

Yes, believe me when I say that you will struggle. Those programs that claim that they will help you become fluent in a certain language in 3 months or less, they are probably over exaggerating. There is more in learning a language than just writing it and making sure you have proper spelling and it was translated correctly. You also need to understand it and be able to pronounce it properly with confidence. It’s just like learning your mother language, you were not able to be fluent in you mother language in just months or in just a year.

2️⃣ Starting with the characters is a must

If you are learning a language that requires you to use different characters, learn those characters first before the ‘translating game’. In learning Korean, you first need to learn Hangul, just like when you first learned English, you started with the Alphabet. After learning the characters, you can start forming words, and that is where the ‘translating game’ starts.

3️⃣ The struggle is real when learning the ‘accent’

This is the part where most struggle (including me lol). I struggled at pronouncing words in French mainly because I was not made to speak French (like how my the pitch of my voice gets higher whenever I speak English and drops down when I speak Filipino). It really does take time and many give up at this stage but since WE ARE STUDYBLRS, WE DON’T GIVE UP LIKE THAT.

4️⃣ The pressure is real when you try to use it IRL

I tried using French MANY times in real life when I have the opportunity to but then I just fail and make an embarrassment of myself and just go back to speaking Filipino or English and at the end, I will regret that I missed that opportunity. It will be hard to get yourself to confidently speak your new language especially if you don’t speak it enough (which is the reason for no. 3). But it is very important to have confidence in speaking it because if I hadn’t pushed myself to speak in front of many people in an unfamiliar language, then I wouldn’t be able to write and speak in English.

5️⃣ There will be times when you will lose motivation

For some people this is the first stage in giving up, but in terms of learning a language, this is completely normal. Yes you need to practice everyday in order to succeed but there will be days when you do not feel like it or it does not interest you anymore. Always remember to give yourself a rest because learning something out of your comfort zone can be tiring too. But there will also be days when you will wake up and feel motivated as if nothing can stand in your way and use that to your advantage and make up for lost time.

Idek if these actually help as I am not an expert and it no way can be labeled as a langblr or such but if it did, please like and reblog and follow my studygram (chrissiestudies) and tell me what other posts interest you because I am on summer vacation so I now have more time on Tumblr as opposed to before. 💕💕

[7/100 days of productivity]

today i did some core 4 work because it’s nicer than geology and I got a U in my core 4 mock :))))

I have absoloutely no idea what I’m doing and I’m so confused as to whether there’s even any point me trying and revising for my A-Levels. Everything is such a mess and I just wish I had something to aim for. I just wish I felt like I was actually doing something and ot just floating around pointlessly, wasting everyone’s time. I’m having a hard time justifying things at the moment. I’m working on it, but it doesn’t feel like enough.

I’ve had a week of ‘productivity’. I should celebrate that.

go me! *celebrates sorta*

p.s. sorry for cat spam

( 1 8 . 0 6 . 1 7 ) 🎧 to find you - sing street

june study challenge day 18: today is father’s day in the u.s.! describe your dad or another male role model that has helped you in your academic life. my dad’s a food chemist, so between him and my mother’s microbiology work i literally grew up inside labs and we lived inside the campus itself. he’s a very good teacher and he knows so much, cooking with him is so interesting and yet he’s never pushed me towards science like the rest of my family, he always encouraged me to make my own choices. i look up to him a lot, since he has to deal with being an immigrant and a non native speaker of portuguese, and yet he works so hard and has achieved so much! besides he’s created & published optimized chromatography methods and imo that’s really cool

I hope you enjoy these inspirational quotes I collected and add them to your collection, either in your bullet journal, your planner or your pocket for some extra motivation!

  • “Just do what must be done. This may not be happiness, but it is greatness.”
  • “Life would be tolerable but for its amusements.”
  • “If you leave the smallest corner of your head vacant for a moment, other people’s opinions will rush in from all quarters.”
  • “You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.”

  • “People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.”
  • “Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time.”

  • “Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.”

  • “Not all those who wander are lost.”

Sometimes being productive in the morning can be very difficult, so here are some tips on how to boost your productivity and stop procrastinating in the morning!

1. Get plenty of sleep-try to get at least 7-9 hours sleep at night so that you actually feel awake and willing to get up in the morning!

2. Change out of your pyjamas-although they are so comfy, keeping your PJ’s on is more likely to make you feel sleepy and want to go back to bed. You can still stay comfortable by putting on workout clothes or yoga pants.

3. Drink a glass of cold water-it’s honestly so refreshing in the morning. Keep a bottle or glass beside your bed.

4. Exercise-anything from 30 minutes of yoga to a walk to the park. You don’t need to go to the gym, but any form of exercise gets the blood pumping round your body, leaving you wide awake and ready to be productive.

5. Lay out everything you need the night before-this includes the clothes your going to wear, work you want to do and anything else you might need. Because it is already laid out you’ll feel less need to procrastinate.

6. Plan your time effectively-making a schedule for the day or using a planner/ bullet journal is great as you can allocate time slots for each task you have to do and it is extremely satisfying to tick things off. It also gives you a structure to stick to, meaning that you will know what you are doing at all times. Just remember to give yourself breaks!

7. Bye bye electronics-make sure to switch off all electronics you won’t be needing and put them in another room. You can even get someone to hide your phone from you if you think you’ll be tempted!

8. Download “Forest” app-I just downloaded this app recently and it’s amazing! It allows you to plant a tree and this tree will grow if you don’t use your phone. It’s super satisfying and really boosts my productivity, especially in the morning!

9. Eat a healthy breakfast-don’t skip breakfast, make sure that you eat something nutritious and filling, as this will make your brain more switched on and alert. I’m going to make a post soon about healthy breakfast ideas, so stay tuned for that. Some include: oatmeal, berries, bananas, smoothies, wholemeal pancakes, yoghurt.

10. Switch up your location-working/studying can be much more fun if you get out of the house sometimes. Try going to a coffee shop, library or a park if it’s a nice day. You’ll be more likely to want to wake up if you’re going out somewhere. ( I’m also going to be making a post soon about study locations, so stay tuned for that as well!)

hope this helps!

Day 3/100

Spending the afternoon after school in the art room getting ahead on work is always great :) Diversity conferences are amazing as well. I got to hear from so many different people of so many different backgrounds.

02.23.17

[29/04/2017]

hey so I haven’t really been active over the last week or so. I started college again and it’s been tough, so I haven’t really had the time or energy to be pro-procrastilate if you get me

I haven’t really been very produtive this week, which is a real pain because my first exam is in a couple of weeks. I haven’t even looked at the stuff for my resits so lololololololol

also I still have a load of blog rates in my ask box which I haven’t done. I’m really sorry if you’re one of those people. I aim to do them next week but if I don’t get round to it I’m real sorry.

anyway i thought i’d say hey and welcome you to the new edition above my desk yh i know totally original and whatever but it is useful as hell

have a nice week

02.16.17 | i truly am very sleep deprived 😢 we’re almost on the eighth week of 2017, which means my midterms are almost here. hello to more sleepless, caffeinated nights!! plus i’m loving this greeny spread 🍃🌿 where do you want to go?

( 1 9 . 0 6 . 1 7 ) 🎧 rumor - k.a.r.d.

i saw a post on this exercise where you draw your current self and what you imagine/hope you’d be like in a set amount of time — it sounded fun so i decided to give it a try! haven’t gotten around to the future self part yet, though.

june study challenge day 19: what piece of work from this year are you most proud of? it’s not a grade or any project that i’ve created, per se, but this school year i made myself proud by stepping up and looking for a third year internship ahead of time (and securing it!) in the area i wanted. grades are important, but so is putting yourself out there and actively chasing your goals!
