Magic Art Show - Art Exhibition at GP Las Vegas 2017
Support the world's largest exhibition of Magic: the Gathering artwork ever created to be hosted at GP Vegas 2017 on June 14-18

I finally am trying to do it.

A real art exhibition is being organized and I have over 80 paintings and more concept art than I should own to showcase. This is a four-room, full art show and will be free to everyone at Grand Prix Las Vegas this June.

What if you can’t make it? We will have a virtual tour for $5.
What if you can’t afford to fund it? Promote it like hell.

This is to build the process to do *more* art shows, different planes and different themes in the future. It’s almost like we have stretch goals that will do that…

And here are a few artworks that will be in it, in case you’re curious:

Farseek by Martina Pilcerova

Innistrad concept art by Wayne Reynolds

Invoke the Firemind by Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai

Please support if you can!

There were over 30 cosplayers at Grand Prix Las Vegas. Some of them represented the Magic Art Show, some of them came for the 2nd Annual Planeswalker Summit, some of them were Channel Fireball features, and some of them were just-for-the-hell-of-it independents–but all of them were there to share their love of Magic and have a good time.

Here you’ll find a selection of some of the best pictures from GP Vegas weekend. Enjoy the costumes, get to know the cosplayers, and remember to always try and credit cosplayers when sharing photos! Big shout out to everyone who sent me pictures for this article.

Special thanks to Eron the Relentless (@BibliovoreOrc) and Wizards of the Coast! Cheers.

Some Interesting/Scary numbers on Grand Prix Vegas

Around 70,000 packs will be given out total as prize and product.
That number, plus basic lands, means that roughly 1.4 million cards will be given out.
If you laid those cards end to end they would be 78 miles long.
… If you laid those cards out they would cover 1 ½ standard football fields.
That number is over half the original print run of Alpha.
Assuming perfect math and foil/mythic distribution, 16 foil Tarmogoyfs will be opened. Somewhere around 400 regular Goyfs will be opened.
One third of all L3 judges in the world will be there.
One third of all L4 judges in the world will be there.
Half of the L5 judges in the world will be there.
Every single L2 in the southwestern US is on staff, roughly 40% of all judges L2 and up in the US.
The event was capped at 4500 players.
If all 4500 players show up, GP: Vegas will become the largest Magic tournament of all time, beating GP: Charlotte’s record by nearly 2000 players.
If they had not capped the event, at the previous rate of sign-ups, around 7000 players would have preregistered by Saturday morning.

This very same weekend, also in Las Vegas, Electric Daisy Carnival is happening. EDC is the largest North American electronic dance music festival. Around 300,000 people showed up for it last year.

Zachariah taught Kylie how to play Magic about two years ago, and built her a Maelstrom Wanderer Commander deck. Today they got married yesterday at Grand Prix Vegas‬.

“Our whole house is covered in Magic cards. It’s kind of a big part of our life as this point, so we really wanted to come to Grand Prix Las Vegas, and he proposed in February of last year, so we wanted to commemorate it and be here for it and why not get hitched while we’re in Las Vegas?“ said the bride.

Their officiant? James Lee, a judge who is actually also working Grand Prix Vegas as a score keeper and at the Prize Wall. He and the groom, Zachariah go back a long time as he ran events for Zachariah years ago.

And when asked what they have planned for the rest of the weekend, Kylie responded, “A lot of Magic.”
