gpstypeface

My latest typeface, provisionally titled Trace. Outline slab serif uppercase and numerals. Lowercase and punctuation to come.

The typeface was produced by using a GPS trace running around a football pitch at the back of the university. Unable to see the trace as I created the letterforms, this typeface is effectively invisible, and only exists as a result of the triangulation of three globally positioned satellites.

Using the football pitch as a loose grid, I started at the corner flag, running up the line to be adjacent to the penalty area, then cutting in to the corner of the box, and running the length of the pitch to the other area to create the slab serif and spine of a letterform.

All uppercase letters and numerals are the height and width of the pitch, with lowercase being smaller (x-height). The goal line acts as a baseline.
