gpoyfest 2011

These are some awesome extra photos of some of my favorite costumes. These are all the special photoshoot ones or in the case of Gamzee some of the silly ones that get online a lot. The previous posts were mostly at-convention shots because I feel it’s a bit more fair a documentation of my actual skill than processed photoshoot pictures where I can control the lighting and makeup and pose and edit anything that goes slightly wrong, but this is the stuff that I think is really special and the location shots.

Bonus Post Round One is for:

-Two photos of Dave from Homestuck (first is most ironic)

-Two photos of Vinegar Doppio, one as a location shot and one showing my razor blades prop (King Crimson vs Metallica is best fight in JoJo 5, prove me wrong)

-A photo of my Ed with a really awesome Ling

-Some Gamzee outtakes and a Psycho Gamzee

-A location shot for Haman Karn (took me years to get this shot!)

GPOY-fest 2011 starts here! To make things easier on everybody, I will be breaking this up into a series of posts, by year. I’m not going easy on myself, either. If I could FIND photographic proof of its existence, it goes in this blog. I made some pretty iffy decisions back in the day.

In this post, we have the early itty bitty years, covering 2001-2003.

Featured costumes are:

Xelloss (Slayers) <–my first costume!

Mimete (Sailor Moon S)

Ruby Moon (Cardcaptor Sakura)

Loki (Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok)

Xelloss and Loki were made entirely by me. My mom helped a bit on Mimete, and my mom made almost all of Ruby Moon because wtf I couldn’t sew.

2009 was… a kind of weird year. In retrospect, 2009 is when things really started to fall apart with my old cosplay group, but I couldn’t see it at the time. I did make one of my top favorite costumes in this year, though, and I still wear it a lot.

Featured costumes include:

Jaibo (Litchi Hikari Club)

Johnny Joestar (Steel Ball Run)

Jonathan Joestar (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Noriaki Kakyoin (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière (Zero no Tsukaima)

Miuccia Miuller (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Shin (Dorohedoro)

Bonus round part two!

This round is for:

-a photo of my Child Howl costume with the internet’s infamous Hot Howl. Rumors about this guy still go around after his one appearance in 2006.

-one of the most american photos ever in the history of america (aka Steel Ball Run EXTRA-AMERICA edition, also please note that I am sitting on a still-functional Civil War salute cannon!)

-Group shots of my Luxury and Pop Sound Blossom iDOLM@STER outfits; they look WAY better in groups! (My group is Angel Hearts and I love all these ladies to pieces.)

-Some shots which amuse me of Sakuya from Touhou, including the one where I’m wearing the ZA WARUDO shirt. Sakuya is Dio lol.

-Some photos from when I did Steel Ball Run with Hime no Toki and Himura at Fanime this year

-A photo of my White Snake with my Stand user; I made Pucci’s outfit too!

For the record, the three-person Steel Ball Run pose was the worst pose to hold in the history of ever and I still don’t know how Hime no Toki or I survived that one. And look at Himura just chilling in the back like “sup I’m a badass” while the pair of us artistically drape all over each other and struggle to hold that pose. Goddammit Araki.

HEY GUYS REMEMBER GPOYFEST 2011 that i was doing last night, all my cosplay each year?

My photo uploads are back so I get to finish it off with 2011, bonus photos, and the bonus all-GioGio special post!!!!! If you missed yesterday’s portion (2001 through 2010), it’s on my Tumblr under the “gpoyfest 2011” tag.

Hello 2011. You are kind of interesting. And full of iDOLM@STER.

Featured costumes this time include (and for once this is in vaguely chronological order):

White Snake (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean)

Makoto Kikuchi, Pop Sound Blossom (THE iDOLM@STER SP)

Dave Strider (Homestuck)

Makoto Kikuchi, Floral in Vital Sunflower (THE iDOLM@STER 2)

Makoto Kikuchi, Luxury in Pink Diamond 765 (THE iDOLM@STER 2)

Mishima Reika - RahXephon

Ivan Karelin - Tiger & Bunny

Filius Garaham - Pixiv Fantasia V

Rose Lalonde - Homestuck

The RahXephon outfit is purchased and I really REALLY need better pictures of it. Ivan was purchased as well… dat jacket. Although I think I used up my ridiculous costumes for the year with White Snake. WTF WAS I EVEN THINKING?

Back in 2006 I had started reading JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. In 07 I took the plunge into making costumes for it. Oooooohboy.

Featured costumes in this set include:

Giorno Giovanna v1 (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Giorno Giovanna v2 (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Alice in Wonderland (shhhh this is my Alice Lina styled differently and with a different wig; I’ve had this around for conventions for a while now though, it’s more fun)

Harry Potter (DUH! This was taken at B&N after working the midnight release shift!)

Suzi Quattro aka Suzi Q (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

2008 was not a year where I did very much. It was a massively fun year, but not too many new costumes were made.

Featured costumes include:

Akagi Shigeru (Akagi)

Vinegar Doppio v1 (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Vinegar Doppio v2 (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Mikoko (Kaiji)

Kishibe Rohan (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Note: I actually made part of the kanji backwards on Rohan! The dangers of coswork at about 3am with no reference. I am 99% sure this is the version of the photo where I photoshopped the kanji to not be backwards but I can’t remember.

2006 was a bit less intense.

I kept up with some “themes” from before, and continued to improve my skill. I think this is when I really started being able to make “good” or at least decent stuff on my own.

Featured costumes include:

Howl (black hair casual clothing)

Howl (child version, 2006 remake)

Howl (SLIME, totes my favorite costume ever)

Kikyo (Inuyasha) <–this was actually my mom’s halloween costume but we are the same size so i stole it for photos

Lavi (D.Gray-man)

Prince Arren (Tales of Earthsea/Gedo Senki)

Sochie Heim (Turn A Gundam)

Sophie (Howl’s Moving Castle, nightgown)

Tamaki Suoh (Ouran High School Host Club)

Wrath 2006 remake (Fullmetal Alchemist)

2005 part two!

Featured costumes include:

Howl (a special version of Howl in his bedroom which was really just fucking around with my room as a set)

Kohaku (Wish)

Lusca (Enzai)

Peppo (Gankutsuou)

Ruby Moon, 2005 redo (Cardcaptor Sakura)

Ryuichi (Gravitation)

Howl (hairdye)

and one very special one: my Witch of the Waste makeup. 2005 is when I really started trying to learn how to SFX makeup. I’ve tried to keep getting better at it through the years!

I still hadn’t 100% figured out not to use real hair unless absolutely necessary.
