Today is the Festivity of Saint Isidro (Isidore the Laborer), patron of Madrid, so have some traditional costumes you can wear if you go to the verbena at the Saint’s prairie (which of course is now a park…). To the left, the goyesque style from the 18th century. To the right, chulapos and chulapas in a style which became extremely popular among the working classes of Madrid during the last decades of the 19th century. Madrid has a third, lesser known traditional costume, the castilian one.
