Your fists slammed into the gym bag to the beat of the music blasting in the gym inside S.H.I.E.L.D’s headquarters. Your job required you to stay on top of your game. Whether you wanted to or not.

“Hey,” Nat’s voice made you go into your round house kick, knocking the bag a decent distance down the track. As far as a plain human with your build could physically get it.

“I thought you went home?” You asked, breathing a bit heavy from the exertion you’d put into the bag.

She leaned against the wall, looking at you. Her full lips were pulled down into a worried frown. Natasha Romanoff was gorgeous. She had bright blue eyes that made men fall in love at a glance. Her red hair was cut to her shoulders and curled. Dark skinny jeans and a dressier, tan, shirt complimented her form perfectly.

“I started to,” She began carefully. “Then, I realized that you were going to work yourself to death if I didn’t come and get you.”

“I’m fine.” You insisted, bending down to grab your bottle, careful to not let her see your knuckles. “He set you up to this. Didn’t he?” She didn’t even have to answer. You knew your sister too well. “God, Nat. You’ve gotta stop interfering-”

“Not only do we work with him, but he happens to be a friend.” She pointed out as you took a drink. “And you’re my sister. I have no choice but to stay in the middle of this.”

“It’s been three months.” You straightened up. “He needs to let me go.”

“I still don’t understand what happened.” She crossed her arms. “One minute you two are living together blissfully. The next? You’re back at my place, and Steve looks like a broken puppy.”

“I told you,” You pulled on your jacket, preparing to leave. Knowing if you didn’t, Nat would get Clint involved.

Ordinarily, he was out on his ranch with his family. But, he happened to be staying with you and Nat for a few days as he renegotiated his contract with the agency. He wanted more family time with the third baby on the way.

“You told me you didn’t want to talk about it.” She reminded you. “That’s it.”

“Exactly.” You fought back a smile as she rolled her eyes at your stubbornness.
